MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship PRESS RELEASE 29/04/2021 FOR MORE INFORMATION : ISABELLE LARIVIÈRE COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER [email protected] TEL +41 22 950 95 68 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship/ FIM Supersport and Supersport 300 World Championships Provisional calendar update, 29 April The Autodrom Most will make its debut on the WorldSBK Calendar in 2021 after signing a five-year agreement, while the Australian Round is set to return in 2022. The FIM, the Autodrom Most and Dorna WSBK Organization (DWO) are delighted to announce a new agreement that will see the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship race in Czech Republic from 2021. The five-year agreement means the Czech Round will be included in the WorldSBK Calendar until 2025 with the announcement made at a presentation in Prague on Thursday 29th of April. The Autodrom Most will host the Czech Round for the first time as it joins the WorldSBK calendar with the Czech circuit hosting the sixth Round of the 2021 season from the 6th to the 8th of August. All three classes as well as the Yamaha R3 bLU cRU European Cup will compete at the Autodrom Most, which includes two Czech riders in WorldSSP300 with Petr Svoboda and Oliver König as well as the Jakub Smrz-run Accolade Smrz Racing team. Located near Prague, the Autodrom Most was opened in 1983 and was then the first permanent motor racing complex in what was then known as Czechoslovakia. The circuit has already hosted many motorsport events including national motorcycle championships and will be a new, exciting addition to WorldSBK in 2021; while the Championship venue fits within the circuit's commitment to be part of the sports, social and cultural life of the region. The event will also be broadcast live on Czech channel Nova Sport, following a five-year agreement with DWO. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the FIM, the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit and DWO have agreed there will be no 2021 edition of the Australian Round. We will now work for a return to the iconic venue in 2022 in the most successful way as the first event of the 2022 Championship. With the 2021 season set to begin in less than a month, the FIM and Dorna WSBK Organization are constantly working with Government Officials and Circuits in order to continue putting everyone’s safety first. Any further updates to the 2021 WorldSBK calendar will be communicated accordingly. 11 ROUTE DE SUISSE TEL +41 22 950 95 00 CH – 1295 MIES FAX +41 22 950 95 01 [email protected] FOUNDED 1904 WWW.FIM-MOTO.COM DATE COUNTRY CIRCUIT WorldSSP WorldSBK WorldSSP300 21-23 May Spain MotorLand Aragón X X X 28-30 May Portugal Circuito Estoril X X 11-13 June Italy Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli” X X X 02-04 July United Kingdom Donington Park X 23-25 July The Netherlands TT Circuit Assen X X X 06-08 August Czech Republic Autodrom Most X X X 20–22 August Spain Circuito de Navarra X X 03-05 September France Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours X X X 17-19 September Spain Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya X X X 24-26 September Spain Circuito de Jerez - Ángel Nieto X X X 01-03 October Portugal Autódromo Internacional do Algarve X X X 15–17 October Argentina Circuito San Juan Villicum X X 12–14 November Indonesia Mandalika International Street Circuit*** X X *All dates, events and the attendance of spectators are subject to the evolution of the global pandemic and the approval of the corresponding governments and authorities. *** (STH) Subject to homologation ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- About the FIM (www.fim-moto.com) The FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme) founded in 1904, is the governing body for motorcycle sport and the global advocate for motorcycling. The day before yesterday 166 Notes 175 Images 191 Introduction and acknowledgements POLITICS AND SPORT are by definition incompatible, and they're combustible when mixed. The 1930s proved that: the Winter Olympics in Germany in 1936, when the President of the International Olympic Committee threatened to cancel the Games unless the anti-semitic posters were all taken down now, whatever Adolf Hitler decrees; the 1936 Summer Games in Berlin and Hitler's look of utter disgust when Jesse Owens, a negro, won the 100 metres; the World Heavyweight title fight in 1938 between Joe Louis, a negro, and Germany's Max Schmeling which carried racial undertones and overtones. The fight lasted 2 minutes 4 seconds, and in that time Louis knocked Schmeling down four times. They say that some of Schmeling's teeth were found embedded in Louis's glove... Motor racing, a dangerous but genteel activity in the 1920s and early 1930s, was touched by this, too, and touched hard. The combustible mixture produced two Grand Prix races at Donington Park, in 1937 and 1938, which were just as dramatic, just as sinister and just as full of foreboding. This is the full story of those races.

  • Kyle Smith Wins the 2019 FIM Europe Supersport Cup Kyle
30th September 2019 Press Release n. 96 European Supersport Cup 600: Kyle Smith wins the 2019 FIM Europe Supersport Cup Kyle Smith (Team Pedercini Racing) was able to clinch the 2019 FIM Europe Supersport Cup title at Circuit de Nevers Magny Cours in France following a year of intense battle in the ever-competitive series. 2019 had a positive start for Smith that at the first round of the season in Aragón was able to finish inside the top ten, crossing the line in ninth position. But after a strong beginning, the British rider had to experience more difficulties when he headed to The Netherlands seven days later. With the severe weather conditions and the cold temperatures at the TT Circuit Assen, Smith had a tough weekend, and after having qualified sixteenth on the grid, he crashed out in the race while he was fighting for points. Cheered by the Italian fans, Smith scored points in Imola finishing thirteenth, but the same he couldn’t do in Jerez as in a frantic second lap in the race, he crashed out and couldn’t rejoin the race. The FIM Europe Supersport Cup headed back to Italy for Round 7 at Misano World Circuit, but after a good start in the race, Smith eventually dropped down in nineteenth position. Misfortune continued for the British rider, as at his home round at Donington Park a technical issue put an early end to his weekend. Determined to end his 2019 season on a high, Smith returned strong and confident on the Portuguese asphalt after nearly two months of summer break at Portimao.

  • Racing Towards a Sustainable Future a Review of the Sustainability Performance of International Racing Circuits
RACING TOWARDS A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE A REVIEW OF THE SUSTAINABILITY PERFORMANCE OF INTERNATIONAL RACING CIRCUITS Edition June 2021 Racing towards a sustainable future FOREWORD I have been involved with the safety and sustainability of racing tracks for many years now, as a driver, GPDA Chairman and a circuit designer. And while I would argue that big improvements have been made in terms of safety, I also know that there is a long way to go in terms of fully embracing sustainability for racing tracks around the globe. Though circuits have started to change the way in which they approach sustainability, more guidance on what sustainability means and how a circuit can be sustainable are needed. This is why I welcome this new research and the data-driven proposal of the Sustainable Circuits Index™, highlighting indicators from the wider sustainability and sport ecosystem, encouraging best practice and calling attention to the importance of transparent reporting and independent validation. Motorsport has historically been defined by its commitment to innovation and excellence through competition. It’s now critically important for our sport to demonstrate its commitment to sustainability through collaboration. This paper highlights the new metrics for success in this global effort and provides circuits with the tools they need to help win the race for our planet, a race which we can only win together. Alexander Wurz Former F1 Driver, GPDA Chairman, and Consultant on Road Safety and Circuit Design Sustainability is one of the key issues of today’s society as confirmed by the increasing attention of governments, media, academics, and industry.
