After her retirement from active participation in the Buckeye Girls’ State program, she continued, as the author, to up-date this reference book to ensure that current information about government in Ohio was available to the participants of both the American Legion Auxiliary Buckeye Girls’ State and the American Legion Buckeye Boys’ State. It is with this idea that we continue this legacy. – Croft S. Merritt, deceased 2021 Buckeye Boys State Blue Book 5 pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, I indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all. The American’s Creed TYLER PAGE (1917) “I believe in the United State of America as a government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign nation of many sovereign states; a perfect union, one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes. I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it; support its constitution; to obey its laws; to respect its flag, and to defend it against all enemies.” 2021 Buckeye Boys State Blue Book 6 Forward The American Legion of Ohio, spon- ough knowledge of the American just like learning to swim or play sor of this program, welcomes you system and keep informed on public a game: one can go through the as a citizen of Buckeye Boys State. affairs. motions tirelessly, but with “active learning” the results will be much Boys State is designed to give each This book contains greatly ab- more long lasting. of you a sense of your personal breviated outlines of the legally- role and obligation in our Commu- constituted offices and functions of Boys State is a long-standing nity, State and Nation.
