1 47Th Annual NORTHERN CALIFORNIA AREA EMMY 1 1 47th Annual NORTHERN CALIFORNIA AREA EMMY® AWARD RECIPIENTS ANNOUNCED nd The 47th Annual Northern California Area EMMY® Awards were presented Saturday evening, June 2 at the SFJAZZ Center in San Francisco. The EMMY® Award is presented for outstanding achievement in television by The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS). San Francisco/Northern California is one of the nineteen chapters awarding regional Emmy® statuettes. Northern California is composed of media companies and individuals from Visalia to the Oregon border and includes Hawaii and Reno, Nevada. Entries aired during the 2017 calendar year. A total of 1,002 entries were received, 784 English and 218 Spanish in 62 English Categories and 42 Spanish Categories. Nominations were announced on May 2rd with 199 English and 81 Spanish. Electronic ballots were submitted by a m1`inimum of seven peer judges from other NATAS chapters and were sent directly to our accountant. The Spanish and English awards are judged and scored separately and then presented at the ceremony. 348 Emmy® statuettes were handed out to 253 individuals. Luis Godínez, Assistant News Director, KDTV Univision 14, San Francisco received six awards. Flavio Lacayo, Reporter and Eduardo Mancera, Photographer/Editor, also from KDTV with five awards The Emmy® is awarded to individuals but there is a lot of interest in the station counts: KUVS Univision 19 – 12; KDTV Univision 14 – 11; NBC Sports Bay Area – 10; KNTV NBC Bay Area – nine; KPIX 5 – seven: KXTV ABC 10 and KFTV Univision 21 with five; KPIX 5 and KDTV Univision 14 received the Overall Excellence/News Excellence Awards. Newscast recipients included: Larger Markets: KPIX 5 and KDTV Univision 14, Evening; KXTV ABC 10 and KUVS Univision 19, Daytime; Medium Markets: KGMB/KHNL- Hawaii News Now, Evening and Daytime; Smaller Markets: KTVN 2. The prestigious Governors’ Award, the highest honor a regional chapter can award was presented to Victor Lee, reporter, KGO ABC 7 for his lifetime achievements. The Governors’ Citation was presented to Kim Stephens and Kopi Sotiropulos from Great Day KMPH Fox 26. Four Governors’ Service Medallions were awarded for service to the chapter. Governor Kent Biechley, and Board Secretary Randy Forsman, Emmy® Gala TV Director Wayne Philippo and Emmy® Gala Lighting Designer, Robert Eardiakoff. Four previous Governors’ Award recipients returned for a second year to open the envelopes and announced the Emmy® Award Recipients: Fred LaCosse, LaCosse Productions, David Louie, KGO ABC 7, Barbara Rodgers, retired KPIX 5 and Don Sanchez, retired, KGO ABC 7. Terrence Brewer and his Trio with soloist Marina Course provided music throughout the evening. Wayne Freedman is the Awards Chair and Uilani A. Gray is the Emmy Gala Chair. Production was provided by Beyond Bix Studios and SFJAZZ. The EMMY® award is presented for outstanding achievement in television by The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS). San Francisco/ Northern California is one of the nineteen chapters awarding regional Emmy® statuettes. Northern California is composed of media companies and individuals from Visalia to the Oregon border and includes Hawaii and Reno, Nevada. Entries aired during the 2017 calendar year. This year 784 English entries were received in 62 categories and 218 entries in the Spanish contest in 42 categories. English and Spanish language entries were judged and scored separately. A minimum of seven peer judges from other NATAS chapters scored each entry on a scale from 1 to 10 on Content, Creativity and Execution. (Craft categories were judged on Creativity and Execution only). The total score was divided by the number of judges. The mean score was sorted from highest to lowest in each category. The Chapter Awards Committee looked at blind scores (not knowing the category) and decided on the cut off number for nominations and recipients. In the English contest KNTV NBC Bay Area received 27 nominations. The Spanish contest KUVS Univision 19 received 28. Individual honors went to Luis Godínez, Assistant News Director, KDTV Univision 14, San Francisco received ten nominations. KDTV’s Joseph Perry, Photographer/Editor and KUVS Univisioin 19 Sandra Cervantes, Anchor/Reporter and Eduardo Mancera Mancera each received nine.

The EMMY® award is presented for outstanding achievement in television by The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS). San Francisco/ Northern California is one of the twenty chapters awarding regional Emmy® statuettes. Northern California is composed of media companies and individuals from Visalia to the Oregon border and includes Hawaii and Reno, Nevada. Entries were aired during the 2012 calendar year. This year 674 English and 115 Spanish entries were received in 60 categories. English and Spanish language entries were judged and scored separately. A minimum of five peer judges from other NATAS chapters scored each entry on a scale from 1 to 10 on Content, Creativity and Execution. (Craft categories were judged on Creativity and Execution only). The total score is divided by the number of judges. The mean score is sorted from highest to lowest in each category. The Chapter Awards Committee looks at blind scores (not knowing the category) and decides on the cut off number for nominations and recipients. The results are tabulated by our accounting firm Spalding and Company. KNTV NBC Bay Area received the highest number of nominations with 27 followed by Comcast SportsNet 24 and KPIX CBS 5 with 22. KUVS Univision19 topped the Spanish contest with 18 nominations. There is a tie for the highest number of individual nominations at seven with Brian Hackney, KPIX CBS 5 and Jeremiah Ysip, The Filipino Channel.
