Located along the shores of McCovey Cove between the Lefty O’Doul Bridge, Pier 48 and Terry Francois Boulevard, China Basin Park features grassy picnic areas, Junior Giants Field, and a promenade with sweeping views of the San Francisco Bay.

A nine-foot tall bronze statue of Giants Hall of Famer Willie McCovey will be prominently featured at the northeast portion of the park, which was officially designated as McCovey Point by the San Francisco Port Commission. McCovey Point also features the names of all of the Willie Mac award winners. A signature feature of the park is the public promenade along the shoreline from the McCovey Statue to the Lefty O’Doul Bridge. The promenade features more than 1,200 feet of seat wall interspersed with markers commemorating every year of Giants from 1958 through 1999. Each marker contains the names of every player on that year’s team along with key achievements from that season. The seat wall also features nearly 7,000 tiles from fans inscribed with their personal messages. China Basin Park is also home to the Barry Bonds Junior Giants Field, which was made possible by generous contributions from the Barry Bonds Family Foundation, the Giants Community Fund and the Good Tidings Foundation.

The planning of China Basin Park is the result of a collaborative effort between the Port of San Francisco, San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission, San Francisco Redevelopment Agency and local neighborhood committees. Under the agreement, the Giants have constructed the park and will maintain the almost two-acre Port of San Francisco site through 2010 until it is turned back over to the Port for maintenance. The project’s general contractor is Valley Crest and the landscape architect is Patricia O’Brien Landscape Architects.
