General Muhammad Abdul Mubeen Is a Retired Four-Star General of the Bangladesh Army General Muhammad Abdul Mubeen is a retired four-star General of the Bangladesh Army. He was a student of Adamjee Cantonment Public School and Adamjee Cantonment College and graduated from the Bangladesh Military Academy in 1977. General Mubeen is a graduate of the Defence Services Command and Staff College, and has completed the Senior Command Course at the War College in India in 1990 and the National Defense Course at the National Defence College in Dhaka in 2000. General Mubeen has a distinguished record of ethical leadership and retired from the Bangladesh Army in 2012 after a distinguished military career of 36 years of honourable active service. General Mubeen was first posted as a commissioned officer in an Infantry battalion. He completed the NATO Weapon Conversion Course, Officers Weapons Course and Junior Tactics Course in School of Infantry and Tactics (1978), where he returned later to teach tactics (1980-1982). In 1983, he went to Military School in Guangzhou, China to undergo the Infantry Heavy Weapons Course. General Mubeen has served in a variety of command positions and his senior-level leadership experience includes: • As a General (2009-2012): Chief of Army Staff, Bangladesh Army • As a Lieutenant General (2008-2009): Military Advisor to the Prime Minister and Principal Staff Officer, Armed Forces Division, Prime Minister’s Office • As a Major General (2003-2008): General Officer Commanding and Area Commander of two Infantry Divisions (2004-2006 and 2007-2008) • As a Major General (2006-2007): Commandant, Defence Services Command and Staff College • As a Brigadier General (1998-2003): Brigade Commander, and Director, Military Training, Army Headquarters • As a Colonel (1996-1998): Private Secretary to the Chief of Army Staff • As a Lieutenant Colonel (1990-1996): Battalion Commander, and Operational Staff Officer of an Infantry Division • As a Major (1983-1990): Company Commander, Battalion Second-in-Command, and Operational Staff Officer of an independent Infantry Brigade • As Subaltern and Captain (1976-1982): Served in operational and logistics staff, appointment as an Aide to the Battalion Commander of an Infantry Battalion • General Mubeen’s other important assignments include: • As a Major General (2003-2004): Director General, Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies, Ministry of Foreign Affairs • As a Lieutenant Colonel (1994-1995): Tactics Instructor, Bangladesh Military Academy • As a Lieutenant Colonel (1993-1994): Chief of Staff, United Nations Operations, Mozambique • As a Captain (1982-1983): Security Officer to the President of Bangladesh • As a Captain (1980-1982): Tactics Instructor in School of Infantry and Tactics General Mubeen has attended numerous conferences, seminars and exercises’ at home and abroad, including: • 2011: Pacific Armies Chiefs Conference on Building Land Forces Capacity through Multilateral Security Cooperation, Singapore • 2009: Pacific Armies Chiefs Conference on Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief in Natural and Human-Induced Disasters, Tokyo, Japan • 2009: Conference on Robust Peacekeeping: Exploring the Challenges in Doctrine, Commitment and Conduct of Operations, Wilton Park, United Kingdom • 2008: Asia Pacific Chiefs of Defence Conference: Building Multilateral Cooperation for Regional Security and Prosperity, Bali, Indonesia • 2005: Non-Lethal Weapon’s Seminar, Port Dickson, Malaysia • 2003: Seminar on Sino-Bangladesh Relationship and China’s Influence on Geostrategic Environment of South Asia, Beijing and Kunming, China • 2003: Seminar on Non-Traditional Security, Singapore • 2002: Humanitarian Disaster Relief Operations Exercise, Pattaya, Thailand General Mubeen has chaired and been on the panel in a number of seminars and workshops.
