Children in need get clean water through SidekickHealth

Today there are no good methods for preventing lifestyle diseases. Lack of physical activity is, for example, behind one in ten deaths in . Sidekick Health is a new initiative that is promoting good health in many ways. UNICEF has already gained access to 220 000 liters of clean water through the personal rewards in the game-based program. Everyone can join!

The game aims to increase the motivation to exercise, keeping weight and eating healthy. Everyone can participate, based on their own circumstances. It should be fun to build healthier habits! Points are given for physical activity, stress reduction and an eye on medicinal values. For those who need an extra "carrot" the cooperation with UNICEF is valuable. As you improve your own health in the game, you also donate more pure water to the children in need in Africa.

”Through behavioral research, we know that many are triggered by tasks that provide points and rapid rewards in the form of encouragement and opportunity to support charitable causes. Sidekick is both serious and fun, and also sustainable! ", says Saemundur Oddsson, one of the founders of the interactive mobile solution. Working at Sahlgrenska University Hospital and as a PhD student at University, he is now also one of the people in charge of leading the company with 12 full-time employees. In the interdisciplinary team at the Sahlgrenska Science Park there are doctors, psychologists, engineers and programmers. Some employees are also based in Iceland and in the United States.

Sidekick Health is developed in collaboration with Harvard University and the MIT Media Lab. Recently the incubator company from Gothenburg also signed a contract with the Massachusetts General Hospital which has been ranked the best hospital in the United States. An important milestone! On the home front occupational health is in focus, as the game is now offered as a health team- building exercise for companies. Additionally, you can try Sidekick in Universeum's new exhibition Health.

The company is part of the Connected Health Nordic Star Track Network and a BIO-X project.
