Southland's Slippery Delicacy

Trying Bluff oysters is one of those ‘when in Rome’ situations if you’re visiting the deep south.

The oyster season runs from March to August and our advice is to taste this delectable treat when it’s fresh if you can! For the real wild oyster experts, pop in and see the team at Barnes Wild Bluff Oysters. They have been leading the way in premium oysters for more than 60 years and are happy to share their top recipes and tasting tips. If it’s the off-season, don’t despair – Bluff oysters are commonly sold deep fried from most local takeaway shops (try them with some blue cod and chips for a real Southern treat).

If you’re lucky enough to be around in May, add the Bluff Oyster and Food Festival to your must do list. With a huge selection of great Southern seafood on offer along with live music and entertainment, it won’t disappoint!
