Though some, not all, of these objections were ostensibly addressed in their responses, they were not addressed fully nor adequately. I raised concerns regarding Meadows assumptions on growth in demand for Alpine skiing. The last ten years MHM stated continued growth trends, but actually the most recent previous two years that has not been the trend. The true growth is in Nordic skiing. The majority of the Nordic community is against the creation of the Twilight lot without a comprehensive analysis of potential future use of this terrain, and nearby Nordic trails and connecting trails. This type of analysis has not been done, and would be precluded by proceeding with the construction of the Twilight lot before all future use options have been considered. Second, I asked that MHM be required by the FS to place the funds, $500,000, for a Nordic center in a designated account for a future Nordic center building, and a restrictive timeline for construction. If the parking lot is to be built, the Nordic community should have some prior input on the Nordic facility to be built prior to the lots final approval. The response that was posted simply stated that "a" facility would be built within three years.

    Overseas Dolomites August 31 meet Italy September 14 The Dolomites in northern Italy are undoubtedly one of the most beautiful mountain groups in the world and the seventy-odd via ferrata climbing routes mostly put up during the First World War conflict are an added attraction. The first two weeks of September were selected for the meet as the Italian holidays are over, but the lift systems and huts are still open. The leader had been to the Dolomites over half a dozen times before, and hired a large comfortable self-catering chalet in Arabba, a centrally located village which offered good access to seven different mountain groups. As a venue for a meet, the spires, peaks, ridges and valleys of the Dolomites offer plenty of scope for a wide range of activities: walks, mountain biking, via ferrata climbing routes, scrambling and both sport and traditional rock climbing. The lift infrastructure makes using a valley base compatible with reaching most routes and summits without resorting to nights in refuges. This made for a relaxed and sociable meet with shared catering and nightly opportunities to share experiences and plan outings. The two-week trip gave those members only able to manage a week some flexibility with dates while those with more time found no difficulty in finding interesting routes to fill every day. The weather was mostly good but with a couple of wet days when waterfalls and salamanders became the main attractions. At the start of the second week, precipitation plastered the mountains with snow down to below pass level creating new challenges for the next few days but enhancing the mountain views.

The first aim of the investigations was acquiring a knowledge on the tac- tical manner of skiing competitors. The second aim was a proposition of inclusion of some aspects of martial arts into training of skiers. Material & Methods: Competitions of Alpine Ski FIS World Cup in: downhill, super-giant, giant slalom, slalom were evaluated. Altogether 798 starting applications of skiers were noted. Basic geometry of the gates was obtained. All runs were recorded with video camera. Velocities and accelerations of the runs were calculated. Two biomechani- cal indices were introduced. Results: Index of skiers’ level was highly correlated with the starting numbers. Index of velocity deviations was higher in technical disciplines comparing to the speedy ones. There is significant difference between better and the worse competitors taking into account tactical approach to the run.
