(Provisional translation) Chiba Prefecture Press release Results of the monitoring inspection on fisheries products (laver (dried) and common orient clam) Release date: 20 January, 2012 Fisheries Division Fisheries Department Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Bureau Tel: 043-223-3038 In relation to the accident occurred at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant of the Tokyo Electric Power Company, the Chiba Prefectural Government has implemented the monitoring inspection on radioactivity level, in order to ensure safety of fisheries products in Chiba Prefecture. The result of the inspection was that (1) for twelve laver samples taken in Ichikawa City, Funabashi City, Kisarazu City and Futtsu City (Gyotoku, Funabashi, Ushigome, Kaneda, Kutsuma, Egawa, Nakazato, Kisarazu, Futtsu, Shin-futtsu, Shimosu and Osawa cultivation area) during 5-10 January and then dried, radioactivity was not detectable for both radioactive iodine and radioactive cesium, (2) for the common orient clam sample taken at the Ushigome cultivation area on 13 January, radioactivity was not detectable for both radioactive iodine and radioactive cesium, (3) for the common orient clam sample taken at the Kaneda cultivation area on 11 January, radioactivity was not detectable for radioactive iodine and 0.37 Becquerel/kg for radioactive cesium, and (4) for the common orient clam sample taken at the Kutsuma cultivation area on 13 January, radioactivity was not detectable for radioactive iodine and 0.50 Becquerel/kg for radioactive cesium. UNIT-1 THERMAL POWER STATIONS Introduction ➢ Thermal energy is the major source of power generation in India. More than 60% of electric power is produced by steam plants in India. India has large deposit of coal (about 170 billion tonnes), 5th largest in world. Indian coals are classified as A-G grade coals. ➢ In Steam power plants, the heat of combustion of fossil fuels is utilized by the boilers to raise steam at high pressure and temperature. The steam so produced is used in driving the steam turbines or sometimes steam engines couples to generators and thus in generating electrical energy. ➢ Steam turbines or steam engines used in steam power plants not only act as prime movers but also as drives for auxiliary equipment, such as pumps, stokers fans etc. ➢ Steam power plants may be installed either to generate electrical energy only or generate electrical energy along with generation of steam for industrial purposes such as in paper mills, textile mills, sugar mills and refineries, chemical works, plastic manufacture, food manufacture etc. ➢ The steam for process purposes is extracted from a certain section of turbine and the remaining steam is allowed to expand in the turbine. Alternatively the exhaust steam may be used for process purposes. ➢ Thermal stations can be private industrial plants and central station. Advantages And Disadvantages Of A Thermal Power Plant Advantages: ▪ Less initial cost as compared to other generating stations. ▪ It requires less land as compared to hydro power plant. ▪ The fuel (i.e. coal) is cheaper. ▪ The cost of generation is lesser than that of diesel power plants. -

Press Release People Power Again! Following Soga, proponents canceled their coal-fired power plant project in Sodegaura. The JERA’s project in Yokosuka is the only coal-fired power plant project left in the Tokyo Bay area. February 1, 2019 FoE Japan On January 31, Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd., Kyushu Electric Power Co. Inc and Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. announced that they had canceled their coal-fired power plant project, namely “Chiba Sodegaura Coal-fired Power Plant I and II Construction Project” (Plant I: 1,000 MW, operation from 2025, Plant II: 1,000 MW, operation from 2026). They are now considering of liquid natural gas (LNG) as the alternative source for power generationi . They explained the reason of cancellation on their website as that “the project cannot yield initially expected investment returns.” Friends of the Earth Japan joins the collaborating local groups and environmental groups in welcoming this decision. Due to possible health and environmental impacts that the project might cause, civil society had been protesting against the project with a number of activities, such as distributing flyers at stations, organizing study sessions for the public as well as submitting a written statement to the mayor of Chiba Prefecture and the Ministry of the Environment since 2016. Furthermore, residents in the Tokyo Bay area formed an anti-coal power group in 2017 to take collective actions, including demonstrations in front of Tokyo Gas and Idemitsu Kosan, a campaign to send post cards to the president of Tokyo Gas requesting to cancel the project, and a demonstration during the general shareholders meeting in front of the Tokyo Gas headquarters. -

Environmental, Health, and Safety Guidelines THERMAL POWER PLANTS DRAFT FOR SECOND PUBLIC CONSULTATION—MAY/JUNE 2017 WORLD BANK GROUP Environmental, Health, and Safety Guidelines for Thermal Power Plants Introduction 1. The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Guidelines are technical reference documents with general and industry-specific examples of Good International Industry Practice (GIIP).1 When one or more members of the World Bank Group are involved in a project, these EHS Guidelines are applied as required by their respective policies and standards. These industry sector EHS guidelines are designed to be used together with the General EHS Guidelines document, which provides guidance to users on common EHS issues potentially applicable to all industry sectors. For complex projects, use of multiple industry-sector guidelines may be necessary. A complete list of industry-sector guidelines can be found at: www.ifc.org/ehsguidelines. 2. The EHS Guidelines contain the performance levels and measures that are generally considered to be achievable in new facilities by existing technology at reasonable costs. Application of the EHS Guidelines to existing facilities may involve the establishment of site-specific targets, based on environmental assessments and/or environmental audits as appropriate, with an appropriate timetable for achieving them. 3. The applicability of the EHS Guidelines should be tailored to the hazards and risks established for each project on the basis of the results of an environmental assessment (EA) in which site-specific variables, such as host country context, assimilative capacity of the environment, and other project factors, are taken into account. The applicability of specific technical recommendations should be based on the professional opinion of qualified and experienced persons. -
