CHINESE NEW YEAR GATHERING AT CONSULATE GENERAL

Tourism Malaysia (TM) Vancouver hosted a Chinese New Year gathering at the Consulate General of Malaysia in Vancouver on 19 February 2019. We gathered to ‘lou sang’, a prosperity toss that signifies prosperity, wealth and happiness.

MEETING WITH MALAYSIAN BUSINESS COMMUNITY IN BRITISH COLUMBIA

On 3 March 2019, Consul General met with Malaysian business community in British Columbia at Banana Leaf Restaurant. The meeting was organised by the Malaysia Canada Business Council (MCBC) – British Columbia and attended by 20 Malaysian companies. Members took the opportunity to provide details of the current business climate especially the do's and don'ts of doing business in British

Columbia. TOURISM MALAYSIA, VANCOUVER PARTICIPATED IN THE VANCOUVER OUTDOOR ADVENTURE SHOW 2019 Tourism Malaysia (TM) Vancouver participated in the Vancouver Outdoor Adventure Show 2019, the biggest event of its kind in British Columbia that featured more than 250 exhibitors with latest outdoor and adventure travel destinations, held at Vancouver Convention Centre on 2 - 3 March 2019. The event was a good opportunity for TM to showcase Malaysia’s outdoor and eco-tourism to the Canadian market.

PRESENTATION ON MALAYSIA BY CONSULATE GENERAL OF MALAYSIA AT SIMON FRASER UNIVERSITY

The Consulate General of Malaysia in Vancouver with full support of Tourism Malaysia Vancouver organised a presentation on Malaysia at Simon Fraser University (SFU), Vancouver on 7 March 2019. The event, which was attended by more than 20 participants, especially from British Columbia Council for International Education (BCCIE) and SFU lecturers and staff, aimed to provide some information on Malaysia before the delegation from British Columbia depart for Malaysia to attend the Asia- Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) in Kuala Lumpur. 4

MALAYSIA SINGAPORE NIGHT AT UNIVERSITY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA On 17 March 2018, the Seri Malaysia Club and the Singapore Students’ Association of University of British Columbia (UBC) organised a Malaysia Singapore Night at the Nest, UBC. The event aimed to bring together Malaysians and Singaporeans in Vancouver under one roof to celebrate both unique cultures. The students had prepared popular delicacies such as rendang ayam, bihun goreng and ikan tiga rasa. The Consul General delivered a short speech thanking the students for their efforts in organising the MSN and indirectly promoting TOKEN OF APPRECIATION FROM TOURISM MALAYSIA Malaysian and Singaporean cultures to locals in Vancouver. VANCOUVER TO SILKWAY TRAVEL AND CRUISE, 9 MARCH 2019 In conjunction with the 40th Anniversary of Silkway Travel and Cruise, Consul General, on behalf of Tourism Malaysia Vancouver, presented a token of appreciation to Silkway for their support in promoting Malaysia on 9 March 2019 at Aberdeen Centre, Richmond, British Columbia. In addition, Consul General was invited to present a short speech at the ceremony.

CONSUL GENERAL MEETING WITH SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, GROUP HRM, PETRONAS

On 12 March 2019, Consul General had a meeting with PETRONAS officials at the Consulate General’s Office in Vancouver. The PETRONAS delegation was led by YBhg. Dato’ Raiha Azni Abd Rahman, Senior Vice President, Group Human Resource Management. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the status of PETRONAS’ involvement in the Canada energy sector and the welfare of students under the PETRONAS scholarship.

MEETING WITH MALAYSIAN ASSOCIATION OF BRITISH MEETING WITH MAPLE RIDGE COMMUNITY COLUMBIA (MABC) FOUNDATION

CONSULAR CORPS OF BRITISH COLUMBIA, 4 APRIL SPRING GATHERING 2019 2019 On 30 March 2019, Malaysian students from nearby universities gathered together for a potluck at Ambleside Park, A briefing was organised by Honourable Bruce Ralston, Vancouver. The half-day event brought together students and Minister of Jobs, Trade and Technology of British Columbia Malaysians for an afternoon of snacks and traditional games. During the briefing, Minister Ralson was joined by other BC Ministers including Honourables Doug Donaldson, Minister of Forests, Lands and Natural Resources Operations and Rural Development, George Heyman, Minister of Environment and Climate Change Strategy and Melanie Mark, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Training. Minister Heyman gave an overview of BC’s plan to reach the 2030 climate targets while Minister Mark spoke on public post-secondary education in BC.

MEETING WITH CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF IFTAR HOSTED BY CONSULATE GENERAL OF PETRONAS CANADA LNG LTD. MALAYSIA, VANCOUVER

On 3 May 2019, the Consul General had a lunch meeting with An Iftar/buka puasa with students and Malaysian community in Encik Azneil Abdul Malik, CEO of PETRONAS Canada LNG Vancouver was held at Rumah Malaysia on 11 May Ltd. The meeting provided the opportunity to discuss 2019. Guests were served with Malaysian dishes prepared by PETRONAS involvement in Canada especially the status of PERWAKILAN Vancouver. The iftar was followed by Maghrib, the LNG Canada project and future investments in British Isha, Terawih and Witir prayers, and ended with a moreh Columbia. (supper after performing Terawih).

VISIT TO PORT OF VANCOUVER

Consul General and Consul together with all ASEAN Consuls General in Vancouver visited Port of Vancouver on 6 May 2019. The Port of Vancouver is the largest port in Canada. Vice President, Mr. Peter Xotta provided a briefing on the overall functions of Port of Vancouver. MEETING WITH MR. CALVIN CHONG, BANANA LEAF On 14 May 2019, Consul General met with Mr. Calvin Chong, owner of Banana Leaf Restaurant. Currently he owns five (5) restaurants in Vancouver with authentic Malaysian dishes such as roti canai, satay and rendang. The meeting provided Mr. Calvin Chong the opportunity to share his 20 years experience in the restaurant business. The meeting was also attended by President of the Malaysia Canada Business Council (MCBC) – British Columbia, Mr. Boo Jock Chong.

MESYUARAT AGUNG TAHUNAN PERWAKILAN VANCOUVER 2019

Mesyuarat Agung Tahunan PERWAKILAN Vancouver telah diadakan pada 30 Januari 2019 bertempat di Bilik Mesyuarat, Pejabat Konsulat Jeneral Malaysia di Vancouver. Antara tujuan Mesyuarat Agung ini diadakan adalah untuk merancang aktiviti-aktiviti yang bakal dijalankan sepanjang tahun 2019 selain mengambil peluang untuk berjumpa sesama ahli-ahli PERWAKILAN. Setelah selesai Mesyuarat Agung Tahunan tersebut, satu Majlis Minum Petang bersama pegawai dan kakitangan Konsulat Jeneral telah diadakan.

Pada 2 April 2019, PERWAKILAN Vancouver telah mengadakan Kelas Seni Tari di Rumah Malaysia. Kelas Seni Tari ini dibimbing oleh Pengerusi Perwakilan, Puan Mastura Mansur dan penyertaan dibuka kepada ahli- ahli PERWAKILAN serta rakyat Malaysia. Beliau mengajar seni tari joget menerusi lagu Joget Pahang. 10

HARI RAYA AIDILFITRI OPEN HOUSE 2019

On 22 June 2019, the Consulate General of Malaysia in Vancouver, with the support of PERWAKILAN Vancouver organised a Hari Raya Aidil Fitri Reception at Rumah Malaysia. More than 150 guests including local government officials, ASEAN Consuls General, Malaysian professionals and students residing in British Columbia as well as home-based staff along with their family members had attended the event. They were served a selection of Malaysian food that included lemang, ketupat, nasi minyak, rendang and mee rebus as well as Malay kueh and local fruits. We sincerely appreciate the hard work contributed by the students and Malaysians in Vancouver in preparing for this auspicious event. 11

‘ASEAN LADIES GET TOGETHER’ ANJURAN KONSULAT JENERAL VIETNAM

Pada 27 Jun 2019, Konsul Jeneral Vietnam, Puan Trinh Tu Lan telah menganjurkan ‘ASEAN Ladies Get Together’ bertempat di Pejabat Konsulat Jeneral Vietnam, Vancouver. Program seumpama ini bukan sahaja mengeratkan lagi hubungan malah berpeluang mengenali beberapa hidangan utama selain mempelajari budaya dan bahasa negara tuan rumah.

TASTE OF MALAYSIA

Pada 29 Jun 2019, PERWAKILAN Vancouver turut serta di dalam program Taste Of Malaysia anjuran Malaysian Association of British Columbia (MABC) bertempat di Queen’s Park, New Westminster. PERWAKILAN Vancouver menyediakan juadah seperti Nasi Lemak, Kuih Bakar Pandan, Kuih Bakar Jagung, Apam Gula Hangus, Teh Tarik dan beberapa jenis minuman lain. Acara ini dianjurkan setiap tahun oleh MABC bertujuan mengumpulkan rakyat Malaysia yang menetap di sekitar British Columbia untuk beramah mesra dan menikmati juadah Malaysia yang disediakan oleh rakyat Malaysia yang menetap di Vancouver.

All Malaysians residing in British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan are strongly advised to register with the Consulate General of Malaysia in Vancouver in view of the frequency of natural and man-made disasters worldwide. Information gathered during registration would facilitate expeditious consular assistance and easy access to communication with the next-of-kin in case of Emergency.

5. Proof of latest financial document/record to support oneself for the entire duration of stay in Malaysia (latest bank statement, etc.)
