1994/95 to 2014/2015 INTRODUCTION

St. John Vianney’s – St. Bede’s Old Collegians Cricket Club Inc. (St. John’s – St. Bede’s C.C.) was established in 1994 after the amalgamation of two clubs (St John Vianney’s Cricket Club and St Bede’s Old Collegians Cricket Club). These clubs were established in their own right in 1974 and 1961 respectively. The clubs were in the first grade turf competition of FDCA and considered an amalgamation as a means of forming a strong local club ensuring financial stability, future existence and growth. After initial contact by Bernie Symons and Brendan Buck to their respective clubs, each clubs met with their members to determine whether they should merge and these meetings decided that the merger was to proceed. The process also included a lot of meetings between the two committees to determine the naming, structure and plans for the amalgamated club. There was a lot of discussion at both clubs that if the merger did not go ahead the clubs may not last the next 5 years.

In 1994-95 season with the first eleven commencing its involvement in the South B1 division (VTCA) and in the following years progressed to the highest division available within the VTCA (Senior). In 2003 the club was accepted into the Victorian Sub District Cricket Association (VSDCA) where it has now been for 12 years and is looking forward to a long association.

Kingston Saints (which is the playing name of the St. John Vianney’s – St. Bede’s Old Collegians Cricket Club Inc.), play in two different Competitions, our Senior Turf teams play in VSDCA and our Junior teams play in the South East Cricket Association (SECA), and both are very well developed competitions and the SECA is a very good and safe competition for Juniors to learn and further their cricket game.

The amalgamation has proved to be very successful and our current situation is evidence of that. Since the merger the club has developed under 15 Craig (Hatch) team, Milo in2 Cricket clinics, T20 bash teams as well as extending our juniors to include under 18s.

The club has been successful because of good Administration off the field as well as good leadership on the field which is evident by the team of the twenty years since amalgamation containing 6 club captains.

The Committee decided that it would be fitting to select a Team of the twenty years since the amalgamation. The Kingston Saints Cricket Club Team of the first 20 years of amalgamation was announced at the 20th Anniversary luncheon on February 22nd 2015. The selectors had a very difficult task, but ultimately chose a team that was balanced and about which few would argue. Only 1st XI performances were considered.
