March 30* - Jakob’s Ferry Stragglers (Appalachian Bluegrass) *This Concert takes place the 5th Friday of March Hailing from the mountain towns of Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Maryland, the Jakob’s Ferry Stragglers draw freely from old-time, bluegrass, jamgrass, rockabilly, and to create their own brand of high energy Appalachian Bluegrass. Their goal is simple: write good songs, honor the music, have fun, and take it to the road. Gary Antol (songwriter, guitar, vocals) and Libby Eddy (fiddle, vocals) formed the band in 2014. Since then they have released several CDs including The Lane Change (2015), White Lightning Road (2016), Live at the Blue Plate Special (2016), and Sleep Creek Harfest (2017). The powerful songwriting, mesmerizing vocals and hard-driving rhythms of the Jakob’s Ferry Stragglers have earned them a growing national following.

April 27 - Doctors (Jazz) Dr. Paul Austerlitz is Coordinator of Jazz and Professor of Music and Africana Studies at Gettysburg College. He combines his background as an ethnomusicologist specializing in Afro-Caribbean music with his creative work as a jazz musician.

Austerlitz is especially active in blending Afro- Caribbean music with free forms of jazz, and in initiatives using music in the struggle for social justice. As an instrumentalist, Austerlitz has dedicated himself to mastering the bass and contrabass clarinets. He also plays Bb (soprano) clarinet and tenor . He has performed with musicians such as Ed Blackwell, Doc Cheatham, David Murray, Don Byron, , and Julius Hemphill.

Dr. Austerlitz has completed composing residencies at the Yaddo and Omi artist colonies, received grants from the Macoll Johnston Foundation, the American Composers' Forum (among others), and worked with the U.S. Department of State and grassroots community organizations in projects using multi-cultural music to foster social change in the Dominican Republic. His CD entitled Journey (on the Innova label) combines jazz with Afro-Dominican, African, and Indian music as well as influences from European composers such as Debussy and Stravinsky. Dr. Austerlitz is the author of two books: Jazz Consciousness: Music, Race, and Humanity and Merengue: Dominican Music and Dominican Identity (1997, Temple University Press).

Jazz Consciousness was awarded the Merriam Award for Outstanding Book in Ethnomusicology by the Society for Ethnomusicology and an Honorable Mention for the Woody Guthrie Award by the International Society for the Study of Popular Music.

May 25 - Forrest Brown (Rock)

Forrest Brown has been a staple on the Central Pennsylvania music scene for quite some time. In his career he’s been a member of several well-known area bands and performed with some of the areas finest players. In the past two decades or so Forrest has been a member and leader of Blitz Dynette, worked with Shea Quinn in clockwork, and had a stint with Rich Clare’s Pentagon just to name a few. He is currently filling the guitar chair for the Uptown Band out of Reading, PA.

Although stage performance is his forte he is equally at home in the studio, or in the pit. Forrest has recorded three albums with his band Blitz Dynette and has a number of musicals to his credit including “A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline,” “Smokey Joe’s Café,” “Godspell,” “Frame,” and most recently “All Shook Up.”

He is able to blend R&B, Pop, Rock, Jazz, and even a little Country if the situation warrants. Versed in many styles, Forrest Brown is a performer worth seeing.

June 22 - Ajay & Friends (R&B Fusion)

Carlisle's own, Ajay Shughart, has been playing guitar since age 9. He was singing and leading bands by age 12 and released his first CD at age 14. As he matured, so did his music. He soon added electric bass and music production to his repertoire.

Currently living in , he'll be returning home to share his latest music with new and old friends. His current musical stylings can be described as a fusion of harmonic R&B, hip-hop and synth-infused rhythms with influences from a range of modern jazz and indie/alternative sounds. His live performances are energetic and spontaneous recreations of his self-produced songs. These genre-busting sounds will appeal to both modern and retro listeners.

June 27 - Capital C presents Da Merge (Hip-Hop)

Combining elements to bring people of communities together through powerful music is what we aim for. Hip-Hop at its finest…Da Merge!

Da Merge was formed, in 2010, when various Hip Hop Artists met by chance at an Open Mic in Carlisle, PA. Realizing that there wasn't a strong Hip Hop genre in the area, these Artists decided to "Merge" together and make music. Original members included, but not limited to, Capital C, Jinglez, and Renegade. In 2015, DJ James aka Flesh N Bones joined Da Merge as their primary producer/DJ. Since the addition of Flesh N Bones, Da Merge has set out to help others in Carlisle, PA and neighboring communities by volunteering their time and talents.
