David Gareja Signagi Kabali Lagodekhi Gremi Alaverdi We will pick you up and drive to David Gareja, the cave monastery in Kakheti on the border to Azerbaijan, which is inhabited since the 6. century, founded by Father David one of the 13 assyrian missionaries who came to Georgia. Nearby are a lot of caves, which we can visit as well, some of them have paintings on the walls. Lunch on the way, and on the way to Signagi is a village, where a woman is producing silk, which was big industry during communistic era. After visiting her, we will go to Signagi, the – City of Love – on the Gombori range, the view is over the kakhetian plain to the high peaks of the Greater Caucasus. The city is almost complete restaurated and beautiful. There is the chance for wine degustation in Signagi, accomodation in Signagi, distance 200 kilometer. In case its a sunday, I would recommend to get up early that we can visit the bazar in Kabali, which was in history main bazar for Kakheti and even people from Daghestan and Azerbaijan. There is a big lifestock part, good chance for photos. Any other day we will have plenty of time in morning. Though you can walk around one more time in Signagi if you like. Lunch in Lagodekhi, where we will hike a bit in the national park, the climate there is very different from the rest of Kakheti, almost subtropical. From Lagodekhi we will go to Gremi and Nekresi near Kvareli, before we head to Kvemo Alvani. If you’re comfortable using an outd oor toilet for a day, we’ll stay with a local family in Kvemo Alvani, giving you the chance to learn how to make two of the main Georgian dishes, Khinkali and Khachapuri. If you prefer the comfort of indoor plumbing we can stay in Telavi for the night. Driving distance about 200 kilometer. This day we will drive into Pankisi valley which is since 160 years inhabited by chechens, in pankisi the alazani river has his origin, we will hike to an old hidden fortress from 12 century, or we will explore other hidden treasures in the near area, more cooking lessons. Homestay again, driving distance maximum 150 kilometer. On our way back to tbilisi we will visit Alaverdi monastery, very important in kakhetian and tushetian history, than we will continue to Telavi, where we will have lunch and than through Gombori pass back to Tbilisi with possible stops in Shuamta and Ujarma. Driving distance 130 kilometer.
