  • Foreign Consular Offices in the United States
United States Department of State Foreign Consular Offices in the United States Summer 2007 FOREIGN CONSULAR OFFICES IN THE UNITED STATES, 2007 i PREFACE This publication contains a complete and official listing of the foreign consular offices in the United States, and recognized consular officers. Compiled by the U.S. Department of State, with the full cooperation of the foreign missions in Washington, it is offered as a convenience to organizations and persons who must deal with consular representatives of foreign governments. It has been designed with particular attention to the requirements of government agencies, state tax officials, international trade organizations, chambers of commerce, and judicial authorities who have a continuing need for handy access to this type of information. Trade with other regions of the world has become an increasingly vital element in the economy of the United States. The machinery of this essential commerce is complicated by numerous restrictions, license requirements, quotas, and other measures adopted by the individual countries. Since the regulations affecting both trade and travel are the particular province of the consular service of the nations involved, reliable information as to entrance requirements, consignment of goods, details of transshipment, and, in many instances, suggestions as to consumer needs and preferences may be obtained at the foreign consular offices throughout the United States. Note: Changes occur daily. Status of persons listed in this publication should be verified with the Office of Protocol. IMMUNITIES ACCORDED TO CONSULAR OFFICERS Consular officers should be accorded their respective privileges, rights, and immunities as directed by international and domestic law. These foreign officials should be treated with the courtesy and respect befitting their positions.

Presentation to Portfolio Committee on International Relations & Cooperation by We recognise the right of both Israelis and Palestinians to live in their own independent states, living side by side with mutual recognition. We respect the Palestinian right to choose their own government and live according to their own laws and religion. Israel desires the same. Moreover Israel’s Declaration of Independence protects the rights of minorities and of all religions. These rights are also protected by the government and its supreme court. While we support the notion of Palestinian independence, we do not support the way they are going about it at the UN. By not resolving and discussing any of the core issues; the borders, the refugees on both sides, mutual recognition and the right for Jews to live in Palestine, the conflict will not be resolved and may in fact intensify. • Arabs in Israel
Arabs in Israel Israel, an Apartheid state – IS IT SO ?!? The text was written and the images were selected by Aron Albahari Introduction As of early 2013, the total population of Israel has been about eight million people. About six million among them are Jews (75 percent), around 1,300,000 Muslim Arabs, 150,000 Christian Arabs, 140,000 Druze, 60,000 Bedouins, whereas 350,000 people belong to the ‘others’ category (non-Arab Christians, Circassians, Armenians, etc.). Both formally and legally, as Israeli citizens, they have equal rights and obligations, and this, naturally, also applies to Arabs. The only obligation that does not apply to Arabs is military service, except if they wish to opt for it. Although they are Muslims, Druze, Bedouins and Circassians do serve the military service. Since May 14, 1948, and the formation (reinstatement) of Israel as a state, despite political and other connotations regarding the relationship between the Arabs and Israeli Jews typical of this period, the Arab population in Israel has grown in number by ten times, or by more than 1000 percent: from 190,000 to about two million. One of the major reasons for this has been the overall standard and quality of life within the Israeli society and state, regardless of personal affinities, political or other views and attitudes and an individual’s experience of the life in the predominantly Jewish society. Compared to other Arabs living in 22 Arab Muslim countries, the Israeli Arabs, as the largest non-Jewish population in Israel, have on average the longest life expectancy (both men and women), the lowest mortality rate among the newborns, the lowest illiteracy rate and the highest rate of university-educated people (both among men and women).

  • Muslim Supporters of Israel 1 Muslim Supporters of Israel
Muslim supporters of Israel 1 Muslim supporters of Israel Muslim supporters of Israel are Muslims who support self-determination for the Jewish people, and a homeland for them in Israel. This support should not be confused with support for the policies and actions of the modern Israeli state. Some Muslim clerics, such as Sheikh Prof. Abdul Hadi Palazzi, Director of the Cultural Institute of the Italian Islamic Community,[1] [2] and Imam Dr Muhammad Al-Hussaini[3] believe that the return of the Jews to the Holy Land, and the establishment of the State of Israel, are in accordance with teachings of Islam.[4] [5] Some Muslim supporters of Israel consider themselves 'Muslim Zionists'.[6] [7] [8] Muslims who publicly supported Zionism include Dr. Tawfik Hamid,[9] Tashbih Sayyed, a Pakistani-American scholar, journalist, and author,[10] and the Bangladeshi journalist Salah Choudhury. Additional Muslim people who voiced public support for Israel included figures such as Irshad Manji, Salim Mansur, Abdurrahman Wahid, Abdullah Saad Al-Hadlaq, Zuhdi Jasser and Khaleel Mohammed.[11] In the Muslim world, support of Israel is a minority orientation, and supporters of Israel have at some occasions faced intolerance and violence.[12] [13] History Middle Ages According to British-based Imam Muhammad Al-Hussaini, traditional commentators from the eighth and ninth century onwards have uniformly interpreted the Qur'an to say explicitly that the Land of Israel has been given by God to the Jewish people as a perpetual covenant.[3] [14] Hussaini bases his argument
