PROGRAMME PEUGEOT SPORT 2008 - Press release - Peugeot 908 HDi FAP - Technical Data - Calendar - Drivers - The team - Press officer - Motor Sport Promotional Activities 2008 PROGRAMME A YEAR OF MANY CHALLENGES The 2007 season turned out to be one of the most rewarding ever for Peugeot Sport which launched four different new cars on the world motor sport scene, from the factory programme with the 908 HDi FAP to its package of promotional formulae with the 207 LW THP, 207 Super 2000 and Spider THP. The lessons learned by the team while finding its marks last year will be implemented in 2008 and all its energy will be devoted to building on that experience to achieve its objectives. This time last year, under the leadership of Michel Barge, Peugeot Sport organised a dynamic presentation of the new 908 HDi FAP to announce its modest objectives for the season ahead. Following the car's initial gestation, which was rapid to say the least, Team Peugeot Total enjoyed a memorable season which brought its fair share of surprises, satisfactions and passion, not to mention the unrelenting toil which enabled it to secure results well beyond its expectations and targets. Indeed, never in Peugeot's history had a competition car won out of the box, yet the 908 HDi FAP claimed victory in its debut race at Monza before going on to clinch the 2007 Le Mans Series. Team Peugeot Total won all six rounds, started from pole position each time and posted every fastest race lap, not to mention its unhoped-for performance at Le Mans where it started from pole position before taking second place at the end of the 24-hour race. -

French Resistance: The 1988 French Grand Prix Of their many head-to-heads during their battle for F1 supremacy in the late 1980s and early 1990s, Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost’s confrontation at the 1988 French Grand Prix was arguably one of their most intense ever. A new book due to be published in February, ‘The Power and The Glory: Senna, Prost and F1’s Golden Era,’ relates the story of this and many other clashes between F1’s all-time heavyweight super-team during that unforgettable era of Grand Prix racing. When the teams arrived at an impossibly hot Circuit Paul Ricard for the seventh round of the 1988 world championship, Alain Prost was certainly feeling the heat in more ways than one. Early July and the south of France was sizzling under a summer heatwave. Not only this, but the Frenchman’s new team-mate, a certain Ayrton Senna, had just won the previous two Grands Prix in North America with something to spare. These performances had followed hard on the heels of a Monaco Grand Prix in which the formidable Brazilian had humiliated the French ace, until an inexplicable error had eliminated him late in the race. The new recruit was coming on strong, very strong. Mclaren’s double world champion was having to dig deep within himself, for Ayrton Senna had arrived at Mclaren with just one aim: to depose the Frenchman from the top of the F1 pedestal. Six races into 1988 and F1’s weather watchers reckoned the Brazilian was doing just that. -

Forgotten F1 Teams – Arrows Welcome to Forgotten F1 Teams – a mini series from Sidepodcast chronicling the rise and fall of teams that couldn’t stay the distance. This is the fourth show, we’ve already looked at Simtek, Pacific and Forti, but today we’re talking about Arrows. Arrows Grand Prix came to life in 1977, founded by previous Shadow employees, Franco Ambrosio, Alan Rees, Jackie Oliver, Dave Wass and Tony Southgate – the surnames of whom spell out Arrows… sort of. Based in Milton Keynes, their Formula 1 entry was a bit of a rush job, with their first ever car being produced in just 53 days. Riccardo Patrese was brought on board to steer the car and the early signs were promising. They finished tenth in their first race in ‘78, almost won their second, and picked up some points in their third Grand Prix. Unfortunately, the team didn’t have an easy start to life with some early controversies. Founder Franco Ambrosio had to leave the team after being found guilty of financial misconduct in Italy, and sent to prison. The team were then sued by Shadow for copyright on their chassis, which was upheld by the court. However, this didn’t stop them, as while the decision was being made over the the copied chassis, Arrows had built a brand new car, which then took to the track without them having to miss a race. Patrese was involved in a serious multi‐car pile up at the Italian Grand Prix that year. Fellow driver Ronnie Peterson died after the accident, and James Hunt, who was also involved, led a successful campaign to get Patrese banned from racing at the next Grand Prix.
