The role played by some sectors of the Roman Catholic Church in the mediation efforts leading to this positive outcome has long been underestimated, as has the internal pluralism of the Church in this regard. This article specifically examines the transnational dimension of this mediation, including its symbolic aspect. The call to involve the Catholic institution transnationally was not limited to the tangible outcomes of mediation. The mere fact of involving transnational religious and non-religious actors represented a symbolic gain for the parties in the conflict struggling to impose their definitions of peace. Transnational mediation conveyed in itself explicit or implicit comparisons with other ethnonationalist conflicts, a comparison that constituted political resources for or, conversely, unacceptable constraints upon the actors involved. The Construction of the Basque Polarized Pluralism Francisco J. LLERA RAMO Universidad del País Vasco Working Paper n.64 Barcelona 1993 The political transition from the authoritarian system to the pluralist regime started in December 1976 with the Political Reform Act and finished with the approving referenda of Constitution and Statutes, being the first one (December 1978) general for the State and the second (October 1979) specific for the Basque Country. The following stage in both cases was that of starting the previously designed institution-building process to result in a third phase that we might define as consolidation of the democratic system which is the present one. The Basque people have been called to polls more than twelve times since the first free elections in 1977. They have voted the composition of the Houses in Madrid and Vitoria, of the regional institutions of Alava, Guipúzcoa and Vizcaya, of the city councils and even of the European Parliament, not to mention the four referenda. At the regional level, the "inaugural" 1980 election opened a period of political alignment and institution-building hegemonized by the PNV (Partido Nacionalista Vasco, Basque Nationalist Party) in a context of strong anti-centralist mobilization and of maximum activity of the radical nacionalism's armed organisms at the same time as ETApm decided its disolution. The second elections of 1984 were of "passage", extending the previous situation to a term shortened by PNV's parliamentary weakening eventually leading to its early split at the time of defining the internal organization of the Basque Country with the LTH as well as its alliance-politics. -

Basta ojear cualquier trabajo sobre la historia de un club, competición nacional o internacional, para colegir que si se cita a colegiados será reviviendo nefastas labores, la “adulteración” de algún resultado, dando por válidos goles discutibles o mediante el escamoteo de un penalti, y hasta, a veces, convirtiendo al juez en impulsor de graves quebrantos al orden público. Los buenos arbitrajes, porque también los hubo, sin duda, y muchos, no deben formar parte de la historia. Por el contrario, presidentes señeros, futbolistas estrella y acontecimientos varios, reciben el reconocimiento que sin duda merecen. A los árbitros parece no reservárseles otra función que la de sufrir. -

Con Juan Jose Rodri un gran amigo mío y el mejor técnico de los que ha tenido el Valencia CF. en los años 1984-1989. Enrique Martínez y Miguel Guzmán por el afecto que me tomaron recuerdo perfectamente cuando los coincidí en mi época de jugador de las categorías inferiores del Valencia CF, me entrevistaron en Intervalencia Radio, lo que es la vida cuatro años más tarde retrasmití a las órdenes de Miguel Guzmán. Mi recuerdo para su familia. (1988-1992) A Bernardo Gumán santo y seña, muchas generaciones lo escuche por la radio en aquella Antena 3 en el año 1988 y lo que es más importante me brindó su amistad, allá por el año 1989. A Gaspar Roseti mi primer consejero que hizo de hermano mayor y padre con independencia de lo mucho que aprendí a su lado. Un maestro de maestros, la amistad perdura con su hija Adela tan profesional trabajadora y que sigue la estela de Gaspar. (Desde febrero del año 1990) A Eugenia Pina que me dio la oportunidad de colaborar en Minuto 93 un programa deportivo que analizaba el partido del Valencia CF en un tono de humor y desenfadado. En diciembre del año 1995, con el final de la temporada dándole el premio a Pedja Mijatovic como mejor jugador votado por la audiencia del Programa Minuto 93. -

En 1977 creó un partido, EIA, ABSTRACT y una coalición, Euskadiko Ezkerra. En 1981 ETApm declaró una tregua. La or- ganización se dividió en dos grupos. Gracias a la negociación entre el partido EIA y el Gobierno de UCD, una de esas facciones se autodisolvió y sus militan- tes se reinsertaron en la sociedad; la otra acabó integrándose en ETA militar o des- apareciendo con el tiempo. ETA political-military was one of the Basque nationalist terrorist organisations ac- tive during Spain's transition to democracy. In 1977 it created a political party, EIA, and a coalition, Euskadiko Ezkerra. In 1981 ETA(pm) declared a truce. The organisation split into two groups. Thanks to negotiations between EIA and the UCD-led government, one of the factions dissolved itself and its members were reintegrated back into society; members of the other faction either joined ETA mi- litary or disappeared over time. -

The final publication is available at https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10611-019-09845-6 Abstract On 20 October 2011 ETA announced the ‘definitive cessation of its armed activity’, which had been increasing since shortly after its inception in 1959. On 8 April 2017 it disarmed by handing over its weapons to intermediaries from civil society. On 2 May 2018 ETA announced its dissolution. This was the end of the last ongoing armed conflict in Europe from the wave of political violence – linked to national and class disputes – that swept over the continent starting in the 1960s. This article analyses the development of Spanish antiterrorism in relation to the Basque conflict, observing how a free and democratic Spanish state has responded to the challenge of an armed insurgency that has continued to the present. While the history of the organisation is well known, less so is the development of the reaction to deal with it. ETA’s progression cannot be understood in isolation, but rather needs to be placed into the context of the measures taken by the state, which influenced, shaped, and was shaped by it throughout the course of the conflict. Así lo demuestra el hecho de que la FIFA tenía entonces sobre la mesa nada menos que seis candidaturas para albergar la edición de 1979: las de Estados Unidos, Irán, Australia, Japón, Uruguay y Países Bajos. El caso del país europeo era especialmente significativo, ya que la federación neerlandesa era una de las que había respondido negativamente a la invitación inicial que la FIFA había hecho a sus miembros para participar en la primera edición. Dos años después, Países Bajos no sólo quería jugar el torneo, sino que pretendía organizarlo. Su candidatura, sin embargo, tenía poco que hacer en esa carrera, porque la FIFA pretendía seguir llevando su torneo juvenil a países donde el fútbol estuviera prácticamente en pañales. -
