E. Wood.1 The final article in the series,2 dealt with Wood’s fraudulent impersonation of the spirit ‘Pocha,’ at a séance in Peterborough in September 1882. At that time it was noted Wood wrote to the editor of Light, in response to comments published in the paper by her accusers. Her letter, published on September 23, 1882,3 stated in part: I think it will not be denied by my bitterest enemies that I have always been anxious to do service to Spiritualism. I have sat thousands of times, with of course varying results, and whenever I have been requested, either through poverty of the sitters or for the benefit of a society’s funds, to attend free of charge, I have invariably complied.
