    May 20, 2019 Dear Northfield Resident, The Village has received questions regarding the planned Skokie Valley Trail (SVT). To ensure all residents stay informed, we thought it would be helpful to provide you with answers to the most frequently asked questions. Q: What is the SVT? A: The SVT is a linear multi-modal connection that stretches from Rockland Road in Lake Bluff to West Bryn Mawr Avenue in Chicago, where it links to the North Branch Trail. Completing Northfield’s segment of the trail has been a goal in the Village’s Comprehensive Plan since 1999, with little progress. In 2008, the Village partnered with the Villages of Glencoe, Glenview, Northbrook, and Wilmette to complete a Feasibility Study. This study showed that complete construction of the SVT would fill a critical transportation need as a dedicated off-street route for bicyclists and pedestrians throughout the North Shore. The SVT was classified as a Tier One corridor by the Northwest Municipal Conference in their 2010 Bicycle Plan, indicating that its construction would provide the highest positive regional impact. In 2012, the SVT was voted a “regionally significant project” by the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning. Q: What are the three phases of the proposed SVT project? A: A project of this sort encompasses three phases. In the first phase, engineers conduct an in-depth investigation of the project’s logistical, environmental, safety, and economic elements. In the second phase, detailed construction documents are developed. Finally, in the third phase, the project is constructed. Working in partnership with the villages of Wilmette, Glenview, and Skokie, the Village of Northfield is currently conducting the Phase I study of the 4.15 mile segment of the SVT spanning from Northfield’s northern border to Old Orchard Road.

    New Trier High School Jazz Ensemble I The NEW TRIER HIGH SCHOOL JAZZ ENSEMBLE I is the most advanced of four curricular jazz ensembles at New Trier High School in Winnetka. The group rehearses during the school day and the students receive a grade for their participation. New Trier also offers four curricular concert bands and four orchestras. More than 120 students participate in the jazz studies program at New Trier. The ensemble is directed by James Warrick, who came to New Trier in 1981. Some of the jazz artists who have performed with the New Trier Jazz En- semble include... Dizzy Gillespie, Maynard Ferguson, the rhythm section of the Count Basie Orchestra, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Lew Tabacken, Ed Shaugnessy, Clark Terry, Louie Bellson, Jamie Aebersold, Bobby Shew, and more than 50 others. Believing that their graduates are their trophies, the New Trier Jazz En- sembles do not participate in competitive jazz events. However, Jazz En- semble I has performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival, the North Sea Jazz Festival, two times at the international conventions of the International Asso- ciation of Jazz Educators, three times at the Mid-West International Band and Orchestra Clinic, the National Band Association convention, and several European tours. They have performed twice at the JAZZ SHOWCASE in Chicago. During the summer of 2000 the ensemble toured Japan and China for two weeks, performing the first jazz concerts ever performed in the three major cities in the Henan Province. Background Information ​ Brief History Wilmette and Kenilworth are villages in Cook County, Illinois, along the North Shore, north of Chicago. Both villages are located in New Trier Township. The Great Chicago Fire of 1871 destroyed many Cook County records, including birth, marriage and death records. Before European settlement, members of the Potawatomi tribe lived in the area. The village of Wilmette is named after Antoine Ouilmette, a French-Canadian fur trader who was married to a Potawatomi woman, and received land in present-day Wilmette for his part in signing the second Treaty of Prairie du Chien in 1829.

NTSC was established in 1982 and is a USA Swimming Bronze Medal club based outside Chicago, Illinois. NTSC is a leader in competitive swimming in Illinois and has developed many Collegiate, National, and Olympic Trials swimmers. NTSC is a 501(c)(3) board- directed and parent supported organization committed to: 1. Developing each swimmer’s potential to the fullest by teaching stroke techniques, building endurance and skills for racing, and motivating each swimmer to achieve his or her best. 2. Providing swimmers an opportunity to engage in a wholesome, lifesaving, lifetime activity. 3. Promoting physical fitness and good patterns of physical development while encouraging proper conditioning and health habits. 4.
