How To Order
1. Measure the space to be covered, whether it’s a floor, countertop or wall. For more accurate measurements, deduct spaces occupied by cabinets, permanent appliances, bath fixtures and other obstructions to the flow area. 2. Calculate the square footage of tile needed by multiplying the length of the space by the width. Length x Width = Square Footage (Sq. Ft.). Example: 10x10 room = 100 sq ft Don’t forget to subtract those areas that interrupt the flow of the space. A x B = Sq. Ft.

3. Select the pattern and sizes desired. Be sure to note any borders and corner pieces you want to include as part of your pattern, and consider any special trim pieces you may need for countertops, entryways, edging, corners and stairs. If you are unsure of what trim pieces you may need, simply note any areas in ques- tion and ask your Crossville retail dealer, local tile contractor or local distributor when ordering. Have the measurements for these areas available. 4. Multiply the percentages of each tile size from the pattern desired by the total square footage needed to determine the square footage of each size tile needed for your application. 5. Depending on the pattern desired, you will need approximately 10% extra tile to allow for waste. Also consider extra tile to allow for future use or replacement. SPECIAL NOTE: Running Bond/Brick Joint and any Offset Patterns For any Running Bond/Brick Joint and any Offset Pattern (i.e. noncontinuous grout joints) utiliz- ing tiles (square or rectangular) where one side is greater than 15 inches (nominal dimension) the offset pattern will be a maximum of 33%. If an offset greater than 33% is specified, specifier and owner must approve a mock-up and lippage.

How to design and measure for a backsplash
A backsplash serves as more than a decorative accent in your kitchen. It also protects your walls from grease, water and food damage, as well as compensates for undesirable architectural issues. When considering a backsplash design, take the entire space into account. Be sure the size and shape of the tile works well with the area in which it will be installed. Colors should work with all of the details in the room. They can blend in, or be in bright contrast to stand as the focal point. Think about how high you want the backsplash to run up the wall. Your tile should start at the coun- tertop and can run anywhere between four inches up the wall to the bottom of the upper cabinets, or all the way to the ceiling behind a hood. Do you want a border to run around the perimeter? Or would you rather run a decorative liner through the field of tile? Decorative liners should not be placed too close to the upper cabinets. Using the rule of thirds will keep the design balanced: divide the space into three equal horizontal sections, and keep your strong design elements within those boundaries. Consider a mosaic behind the stovetop or decorative tiles placed randomly throughout the area. Many of the pattern designs shown in this book can be used for backsplashes by altering the proportion of the tiles or by rotating the design. The patterns in the front of this section are design to work within one single Collection. You will be able to complete the selected design using any colors, or sizes, from that one Collection. Special Cut Only Patterns The Special Cut Patterns shown in this section are a collection of popular pattern ideas from past issues of the Pattern Book. These special cut patterns will no longer work with current available sizes without using special cut tiles, or using multiple Collections to complete the pattern design.
Some of these older patterns can be achieved by using the Get Planked Program tiles (indicated with a † in the sizes section) and others will have to have the tiles cut on the job site (indicated with an *). The designer could also use these patterns as inspiration to adapt them for a custom design. Use the Pattern Worksheet at the back of the Pattern Book to create your custom design.
We recommend that you have a mock-up made of any special cut pattern you select and have it approved by the specifier and owner before you order any tile.
Please take into consideration that we recommend a maximum of 33% offset on tiles over 15".
4.3.8.2 Running bond/brick joint and any offset pattern: For running bond/brick joint and any offset patterns (i.e. non-continuous grout joints) utiliz- ing tiles (square and/or rectangular) where the side being offset is greater than 15 in. (nominal dimension), the offset pattern will be a maximum of 33% unless otherwise specified by the tile manufacturer. If an offset greater than 33% is specified, specifier and owner must approve mock-up and lippage.

Mosaic Patterns and Borders The possibilities are limitless with our Cross-Colors Mosaics Patterns programs. Checkerboards, Celtic plaids, argyle designs or your own unique creation can be achieved with any of the 3" x 3" Crossville tiles offered. With the wide selection of mosaics colors, you can personalize your pattern to blend beautifully with any decor.
A Guide To Patterns The patterns shown on these pages are shown in black, white and grays for visualization purposes. The distribution and percentage of each color within the pattern is illustrated beneath the design sample. After a pattern is chosen, select any color combination. If you can't find the exact pattern you want, talk to your Crossville representative about creating your own design or custom blend.
A Guide To Borders Add distinction to your design with border patterns. We offer a variety of standard borders, or you can design your own. Whether used alone, as a wall accent or to outline a floor pattern, borders are sure to make a lasting impression.
Ordering Information 1. List the pattern number being ordered. 2. Assign selected colors to a specific key letter. 3. List the square footage required for patterns and lineal footage required for borders. 4. When ordering borders, be sure to consider any special corner requirements. Crossville has developed guidelines for creating corners in the field. 5. Specify desired surface finish. Your custom tile design will be delivered in dot- mounted sheets of complete pattern units. For many patterns, no piecing is required. Colors that you select may impact your delivery time.
