PRESIDENTS MESSAGE 2019/2020 our 96th Season has certainly been a year like no other and it is important that we recognise the incredible efforts of our Members, both on the beach and behind the scenes, that ensured that we were not only able to provide our essential Patrol services throughout the Covid19 shut down but to do so in a manner that protected the health and safety of our Members and the beach going public.

We recognise that the pandemic has caused great hardship to our Supporters Clubs and their staff and it is a testament to effective management and good business practices that sees our Clubs being able to weather the business shutdown and loss of trade as well as they have, hopefully as restrictions ease we will be able to restart these businesses and reinvigorate attendances. However, please be aware that the Branch is here to assist wherever we can, the strength and success of our Branch comes from our member clubs and it will be by pulling together that we are able to overcome these current difficulties.

Notwithstanding the very difficult circumstances that we have experienced in the second half of the Season, Point Danger Branch has once again been able to build on past performances and increase our membership for Season 19/20. This is a wonderful achievement and it is especially gratifying to also see the increase in Active Members, congratulations and many thanks to all our Clubs, your

Members and Office bearers in achieving these successes. It certainly bodes well for the future of 19/20 Point Danger Branch and our Clubs.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of our Club Presidents, it has been a privilege to work with you throughout the year and I sincerely appreciate your active involvement, your counsel and cooperation in improving our Branch year on year.

Another high point to Season 19/20 has been the revitalisation of SLSQ, the Management Team and dynamic Board have implemented some important changes in recent months and I am looking forward to the new Strategic Plan and the strategies therein which will improve communication with, and outcomes for, our Clubs and Members.

To all our keen sports men, women and juniors my commiserations for the loss of opportunity to exhibit your prowess at the States and Aussies, but I’m sure you will all bounce back bigger, better and more competitive in 20/21.

It is a bittersweet moment for our Branch as we say goodbye to Kerrie Barnes as our Branch Manager. After an incredibly productive 20 years as Branch Manager, Kerrie has accepted a position with SLSQ and as much as it is only fair that we share Kerrie’s incredible passion, drive and encyclopaedic knowledge of all things Surf Life Saving with the rest of the State, she will be greatly missed. Congratulations Kerrie on your career advancement and thank you for being the greatest driving force behind PDB’s success over the past 20 years, I can assure you that we will try our best to continue on in the manner that you have taught (demanded of) us. We take heart in the thought that the blood in your veins runs PDB Blue & White and that we will still have your input and experience on hand at a State level.

Thank you to our Office Bearers and staff of Point Danger Branch, without your hard work and dedication throughout the Season our Branch could not function, your efforts are greatly appreciated.

Were it not for the continued assistance and generosity of our Patrons, Sponsors and Donors, Point Danger Branch’s ongoing success would be significantly more difficult, thank you for your support.

1755 MARINE STINGS 415 FIRST AID CASES EXECUTIVE PROFILE MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID TRAINING With the ever-increasing emphasis on mentally healthy workplaces, SLSQ Point Danger Branch initiated training for leaders within our organisation in Mental Health First Aid. Twenty (20) members from eight clubs and the Branch participated in the training with an accredited Mental Health practitioner and gained their accreditation. The course was well received and will now become a permanent fixture on the Branch calendar. The Branch has been able to provide Mental Health First Aid support to our members should they need it – members can register via our website and are allocated an accredited practitioner to assist them. PARTNERSHIP WITH VOLUNTEERING GOLD COAST In season 2019/2020 SLSQ Point Danger Branch embarked on a partnership with Volunteering Gold Coast. One of the key projects within this partnership is Accessible Beaches - ensuring our beaches and clubs are accessible for members of the community with special needs. This will be a long-term project that is multi-faceted and will include ∙ Accessible Beaches/Clubhouses ∙ Development of an Education program to accommodate members with special needs ∙ Development of the skills of our members ∙ Development of a modified sports program As part of this project we have also worked with Griffith University interns to develop a relevant and necessary marketing campaign for this program

DIVERSITY TRAINING In line with our partnership with Volunteering Gold Coast we have been able to provide additional development for our members through the provision of Diversity Training to our Clubs and Members. Two courses were held in early 2020. The course aimed to challenge perspectives on specials needs including content such as Equity vs Equality, Dos and Don’ts of Disabilities and Unconscious Bias. These courses will continue in season 2020/2021 and will act as an adjunct to our Accessible Beaches program.

SOCIAL MEDIA : SAFETY MESSAGING & STATISTICS It is important to the Branch to inform and communicate with members, supporters and key stakeholders in relation to Club operations and surf safety. One of our key strategies is to “Prevent, respond to and report on rescues”, as such through our social media platforms, Point Danger Branch has been providing monthly updates on patrol and rescue achievements. Additionally, we have introduced surf safety messaging into our social media as part of our responsibility to the Clubs, Members and the Community.

CHILD YOUTH RISK MANAGEMENT (CYRM) PORTAL

SLSQ Point Danger Branch continues to oversee the CYRM Induction Portal on behalf of the whole of SLSQ. Our support has increased to included monthly reports not only sent to SLSQ but to each Branch. These reports are broken down per Club and position with monthly and annual comparison graphs.

Further, at the commencement of the season - an award “Child Youth Risk Management Strategies” was added to Surfguard and SLSQ Point Danger Branch was responsible for processing all of these on behalf of the state – overall the Branch office processed 3960 awards in season 2019/2020.

WORKSAFE INJURY PREVENTION & RETURN TO WORK CONFERENCE

In 2019 SLSQ Point Danger Branch submitted a discussion paper to SLSQ in relation to our stance on the necessity to make changes to the SLSQ Workcover procedure as it relates to introducing a Return to Work Program for members who have been injured during approved lifesaving activities.

As such, to learn about the current trends and requirements for the workplace, SLSQ Point Danger Branch was the only Life Saving entity represented at this conference. As a result, the Branch was able to provide additional information in relation to this issue and draft a Return to Work policy and procedure for SLSQ.

SEARCH & RESCUE TRAINING – QLD POLICE

In response to our members drive to upskill themselves – SLSQ Point Danger Branch in conjunction with Police Service facilitated a Search and Rescue (SAR) Training Course.

The course was held over two weekends (October and February) encompassing an introductory/theoretical component (30 members in attendance) and a practical day (14 members in attendance). Further courses will be scheduled in season 2020/2021.

Theoretically – the members learnt about an introduction to search and rescue techniques, the hierarchy relative to emergency response and different search patterns/capabilities.

The practical component was made up of scenarios including searching for missing person in white water (using different search patterns) and retrieval from deep water (creek).

CLUB GOVERNANCE WORKSHOP

In January, the Branch ran a workshop for Club Presidents and Management Committee Members. The focus of the workshop was based on items of concern or questions that had come up over previous and current season/s.

Sessions were focused • Organisational Governance – presented by Volunteering Australia • Sustainability Audits/Leases – presented by Gold Coast City Council • Financial Understanding/Reports – presented by Ian Barfoot (Auditor)

Clubs were well represented (despite the inclement weather conditions) and additional resources were sent out after the workshop for Clubs.

OPERATIONS

1,548 63,185.55 113 537,016 415 Preventative Patrol Rescues Beach First Aid Visitations Actions Hours Treatments

Our life saving operations incorporate a range of services provided to the community to ensure their safety whilst at the beach. SLSQ Point Danger Branch, in conjunction with its affiliated clubs, coordinates volunteer lifesaving patrols at some of the most popular beaches on the Queensland coastline.

The volunteer lifesavers are positioned at beaches from September – May each season. The Active members performed 63,185.55 patrol hours in their pursuit to keep the bathing public safe.

Our mission is to deliver high quality, innovative, progressive and responsive lifesaving services. With this is mind, the Branch provides essential support to the Clubs and Members to ensure there is an integration of preventative measures and rescue readiness to be prepared to address and respond to emergency situations.

VISITATIONS . Season 2019/2020 saw a significant decrease in beach visitations of 11.29% (605,389 in 18/19 to 537,016 in 19/20). The most significant decreases were noted in April and May which can be attributed to the Covid-19 pandemic and social distancing rules.

For the 4th consecutive season, we have seen an increase of swimmers outside of the flags (overall increase of 15.83%) and a decrease of swimmers within the flags (13.96%). This continues to be a troubling trend that our clubs and members actively try to change through notifications to members of the public, roving patrols and community engagement.

Roving patrols between patrolled beaches assist in ensuring that those swimming outside the flags are still monitored.

Craft users increased by 6.53% (+5,068) and beach users decreased by 17.97% (-64,431). PREVENTATIVE ACTIONS & WARNINGS

Preventative Actions are the cornerstone to the success of our patrols – a proactive instead of reactive response is always our goal. Our volunteer patrolling members incorporate a number of methods to ensure that prevention is paramount including roving patrols along the beach and in the water, members in elevated positions, people scanning and location of patrol and rescue equipment based on weather and tides.

Season 2019/2020 saw an increase in preventative actions of 15.18% (1,548 compared to 1,344 in 18/19). We have also seen a decrease in people warned of 4.47% (20,827 in 19/20 compared to 21,802 in 18/19). This is in line with the overall decrease in beach visitations.

The highest number of first aid cases was treated in December (145) with the smallest number in May (1).

There continues to be a high number of marine stings recorded each season with 1,755 recorded. This is a significant decrease on season 2018/2019 of 65.93% (-3,396). Bluebottle stings were the highest recorded making up 92.82% of total stings.

RESCUES

Season 2019/2020 showcased an increase in rescues (for the 2nd season in a row). The season culminated in 113 rescues reported – an increase of 4.63% (+5 rescues) on season 2018/2019.

The Rescue Board was the most used piece of equipment for rescues – used in 40 rescues, followed by IRB and Tube (26 each). The highest number of rescues was recorded in December with 41.6% of rescues performed in this month.

Most rescues were performed within 100m of the flags with a total of seventy-one (71) rescues (63%) noted in this area. Twenty (20) rescues were performed within the flags with sixteen (16) completed within 100m – 1km of the flags and six (6) rescues performed 1-5km from the flagged area.

Male swimmers were rescued more often than females with 64.60% of total rescues performed on males. The younger beach goers were rescued the most with twenty-four (24) rescues performed on the 11-15 age group, nineteen (19) on the 6-10 age group and seventeen (17) on the 0-5 age group.

At the time of rescue 78.76% of people rescued were swimming and 8.85% of were participating in body boarding.

For the second season – Coolangatta SLSC posted the highest number of rescues- carrying out thirty-four (34) throughout the season.

QFES/SLSQ SUSTAINABILITY FUNDNG

The QFES/SLSQ Sustainability Funding program is one of the most applied for grants available for Clubs. SLSQ Point Danger Branch and its Clubs have been successful in obtaining funding to assist in the purchase of essential lifesaving equipment or fund existing operational costs.

In season 2019/2020 a total of $121,077.53 was gained by Clubs in this funding program – this is an increase of $49,757.75 on the funding received in 2018/2019.

18/19 19/20 TRAINING & EDUCATION Training and Education of our members continues to be the cornerstone of Club operations – ensuring new and existing members have the necessary skills to patrol our beaches, develop our nippers and participate in surf sports activities.

Season 2019/2020 saw some slight adjustments to training in the latter half of the season with training restricted due to the Covid-19 pandemic. As such the number of awards gained in season 2019/2020 has decreased (noting if the courses scheduled went ahead an increase would have been recorded). Throughout the season the Branch oversaw an extensive calendar of courses that included the following: 5 ART Courses 4 First Aid Course 6 Observers Course 5 Beach Management Courses 3 Marine Licence Courses 1 Trainers Course

SLSQ assisted both the Branch and the Clubs in the provision of Emergency Care Training (ECT) with SLSQ trainers used to teach ART, First Aid and CPR. These courses are provided free of charge to the Active Members and at a discounted rate for supporting personnel/members who are not patrolling.

The Clubs ran the basic operational awards – Bronze, SRC, IRB Crewman and IRB Drivers whilst the Branch provided courses in Beach Management, Marine Licence, Trainers and ECT to support the clubs. Overall, the Branch experienced a 11.87% decrease in total lifesaving awards gained – 1,735 in 18/19 and 1529 in 19/20.

EMERGENCY CARE AWARDS

In total there has been an overall decrease of 18.25% in Emergency Care awards gained in season 2019/2020 (421 compared to 515 in 18/19). The Branch had to cancel an ART and First Aid course at the end of the season (due to Covid-19) and a number of Club organised courses were also cancelled at this time.

The largest decrease was experienced in ART awards gained – 61.02% (118 in 18/19 to 46 in 19/20), CPR awards gained decreased by 6.03% (199 in 18/19 to 187 in 19/20) and First Aid decreased by 5.05% (198 in 18/19 to 188 in 19/20).

The Emergency Care courses continue to be offered free of charge for Active Members (patrolling members). Other supporting members are able to attend courses but have to pay a discounted price.

VEHICLE INDUCTIONS

This season the Branch finalised the ATV Operator Induction update to SSV Induction for Active Members that were not done in the initial upgrade in 2018/2019. Overall, 88 members were upgraded from the ATV Operator Induction.

In totality there was an 8.73% decrease in total Vehicle Inductions gained by the Clubs – 206 in 18/19 compared to 188 in 19/20. Vehicle awards are a lifetime award and are maintained as proficient whilst their licence is listed as current.

Clubs have started to train SSV Inductions in line with Bronze Medallion courses and as a result we have recorded an increase of 24.47% of awards gained (94 in 18/19 compared to 117 in 19/20). Only two clubs ran a 4WD Induction Course with 10 members gaining these awards (compared to 34 in season 18/19). Tractor Inductions posted a decrease of 8.73% (78 in 18/19 compared to 61 in 19/20).

OPERATIONAL AWARDS

The main operational awards trained at Club level include Bronze Medallion, Surf Rescue Certificate, Radio Operators Certificate, IRB Crewperson and IRB Drivers. SLSQ Point Danger Branch provides all training in Beach Management.

There was a slight decrease of 5.97% in awards gained (803 in 18/19 compared to 755 in 19/20). Bronze Medallion, IRB Crew and Driver courses were cancelled in March and April which contributed to the decline in awards gained.

OPERATIONAL AWARDS – A SNAPSHOT ART Largest decrease of the ECT Awards. 46 awards gained overall. Beach Management Decrease of 31.25%. A requirement for all Patrol Captains. Bronze Medallion Decrease of 30 awards overall compared to season 18/19. CPR 187 awards gained in total. 4WD Induction Largest decrease of all awards – not all Clubs have a 4WD. First Aid A slight decrease of 10 (5.05%) awards on season 18/19. IRB Crewperson Increase of 7.79% on season 18/19 (+6 awards). IRB Drivers Largest increase in awards gained – posting a 77.27% increase. Radio Operators Decrease of 12.98% - 208 in 18/19 compared to 181 in 19/20. SSV Induction 117 awards gained recording an increase of 24.47% . Surf Rescue Certificate Slight increase of 0.56%. Tractor Induction Not all clubs have a tractor – decrease of 21.79%.

COURSES

In season 2019/2020 the Clubs ran 143 courses (+3 on 18/19) and 22 upgrades (-17 on season 18/19). Five courses were cancelled due to the Covid-19 restrictions.

In previous seasons our Clubs have worked hard to ensure that all members have the current Certificate II and the Branch office checks all members who have participated in a proficiency to ensure this – as such the need for upgrades has decreased in recent seasons.

An increase was noted in SSV Induction, IRB Crewperson and IRB Driver courses. Bronze Medallion courses remained equal to last year making up 33.09% of courses run. The least popular courses was 4WD Induction making up 1.39% of total courses.

Currumbin SLSC posted the highest number of courses (18) with North Kirra SLSC posting the lowest (4).

It is pleasing to note that the number of errors registered in relation to the paperwork has decreased in season 2019/2020. The error rate for the season was 3.03% (compared to 4.46% in 18/19). The Branch continues to provide supportive mechanisms to the Clubs, Trainers and Assessors with their paperwork.

This season saw the continuation of upgrades for the Assessors – based on a ruling by the Federal Government, all Assessors are required to hold additional Units of Competency – specifically TAEASS502 – Design & Develop Assessment Tools. A number of Assessors already held this UOC, however others were required to attend a 3-day course to upgrade.

Fourteen (14) Point Danger Branch members have successfully completed the upgrade with a further 20 members who need to complete this. Due to the complexity of the course not all Assessors have chosen to attend – the Branch will work with those that are still to do it to assist in their upgrade.

For a number of seasons SLSQ has allowed Endorsed Delegates to assist in the assessments at proficiency. Members are required to be registered, proficient in the award that they are assessing and endorsed by the Club Management Committee. Season 2019/2020 was the first season that this award was available to be processed on Surfguard.

In the latter half of the season – the Branch held a Training Officers Course with five (5) members attending. At present we have 12 probationary trainers across the Branch that are being tracked towards the finalisation of their award. Further Training Officer courses will be scheduled in the new season.

SLSQ has been working on the development of new Assessor Course Resources. Members were required to participate in a trial of the resources and SLSQ Point Danger Branch had one member (Bilinga SLSC) attend the trial.

Additional changes will be implemented in 2020/2021 with the introduction of a new version of the Certificate II (PUA20119). This will mean that all trainers and assessors will need to hold a current first aid certificate and attend the annual TAF proficiency so ensure induction into the new course and resources.

The Branch has been working closely with SLSQ in the writing and compilation of the Training Operations Manual (TOM) which is designed to be a guide to Clubs, Trainers and Assessors for all matters relating to Member Education. The guide will be introduced for the 2020/2021 season.

Surf Sports play a pivotal role in surf lifesaving – not only a platform to keep our members fit but an opportunity to showcase the skills and physical abilities required to save a life. Our sport is instrumental in the retention of members through the provision of events for all age groups that incorporate all the disciplines offered. The Covid-19 pandemic caused some disruption to the Surf Sports Calendar – the Queensland Championships and Australian Championships were cancelled due to government restrictions. Fortunately, the SLSQ Point Danger Branch carnival calendar was able to be completed prior to the restrictions being enforced. In season 2019/2020 the Branch had eleven (11) events scheduled with only one not being able to run due to inclement weather conditions.

JUNIOR EDUCATION

The Nipper education program is about children participating in safe, fun and organised activities in a beach environment, preparing them to be future lifesavers.

The Nipper Education Program caters for all manners of experience and skill levels of participants. The emphasis is focused on fun and education, regardless of development stages to ensure experiences are positive and affirmative. Nippers is a key initiative of the lifesaving movement and its continuous success is of vital importance to the growth of our Clubs.

In total 1687 age awards were gained by the Nipper Membership (+85 on season 18/19). The Under 14 nippers train for and gain the Surf Rescue Certificate – the minimum award for a member to patrol. In season 2019/2020 – 97 Under 14 members gained the Surf Rescue Certificate.

The Nipper members have contributed 2303.22 patrol hours in season 2019/2020. AGE MANAGERS

Age Managers work with Nippers in developing their lifesaving skills through fun, safe and organised Nipper activities. Age Managers are responsible for the coordination of activities for their group of Nippers on the day, as well as encouraging children to learn and progress in their lifesaving journey.

SLSQ Point Danger Branch continues to monitor the progression of the Age Managers through the Junior Review including monthly reminders to the Junior Activity Chairpersons relative to the status of their Age Managers.

In season 2019/2020 – forty-four (44) members have gained the Age Manager Accreditation.

JUNIOR ACTIVITY’S ACCREDITATION OFFICER (JAAO)

SLSQ Point Danger Branch, in conjunction with the Clubs, oversees the identification and processing of members in the role of Junior Activities Accreditation Officer (JAAO).

This role is instrumental in the smooth running of the nipper program – assessing the nippers in their annual competencies and age awards. This ensures that the pressure on Club Trainers and Assessors is diminished. Each JAAO receives an induction email annually outlining the requirements including swim distances and a Code of Conduct they are required to adhere to.

In season 2019/2020 – twenty (20) members gained this accreditation (-1 on 18/19). This brings the total number of proficient JAAO to 84 across the Branch.

JUNIOR SURF SPORTS

Sport began as and continues to be a way for our lifesavers to maintain the skills and physical abilities required to be a lifesaver. There are a wide range of opportunities available for members interested in participating in lifesaving sport.

The skills learned in the Nipper program are based on key lifesaving skills and many will be part of competition events.

In season 2019/2020 SLSQ Point Danger Branch had four junior events scheduled. Due to inclement weather conditions the Youth Championships was held over two weekends and the U8-U10 Carnival was cancelled.

Rainbow Bay SLSC Life Member and SLSQ Point Danger Branch Life Member, Ray Fien was awarded Life Membership at the SLSQ Annual General Meeting in August 2019.

Ray joined Surf Life Saving in 1975 – dedicating 45 years to the movement. Ray’s extensive volunteer work with and commitment to lifesaving stretches across all portfolios

One of Ray’s passions is the development of Nippers and Youth members – to this end he is the current SLSQ Junior Activities Advisor mentoring and assisting Nipper clubs.

WOMEN LEADERS IN SPORT PROGRAM

The Women Leaders in Sport program is an Australian Government initiative that is managed by Sport Australia in partnership with the Office for Women. The WLIS program aims to provide women with development opportunities to reach their leadership potential in the sport industry.

This season two members of SLSQ Point Danger Branch were awarded development grants in this program and also participated in a Leadership Workshop.

Congratulations to Belinda Doman and Kerrie Barnes for their success in this program.

WOMEN IN SURF At the annual Women in Surf Luncheon – a perpetual award that recognises a female who has made a significant and positive impact to the advancement of women in the life saving movement is awarded. Congratulations to Rachael Clark (Pacific SLSC) on receiving this award. GOLD COAST WOMEN IN BUSINESS AWARD This is an annual award that was created to honour women on the Gold Coast who possess vision, innovation, drive, leadership, individuality and tenacity with the ultimate goal being to present role models for other women to aspire to. Volunteering Gold Coast nominated Branch Manager – Kerrie Barnes in the Community Dedication & Social Justice Award. Congratulations to Kerrie on winning this award on behalf of SLSQ Point Danger Branch. SLSA INAUGURAL FEMALE MENTOR PROGRAM The new leadership program created by SLSA aims to support and encourage confident, strong and skilled female representation within SLS, to strengthen leadership skills, and identify, and develop the next generation of female leaders to position SLS for the future. SLSQ Point Danger Branch has five members who have been successfully appointed as Mentors – Jenny Kenny (Currumbin SLSC) Shay Chalmers (North Kirra SLSC), Belinda Doman (Coolangatta SLSC) Samantha Fien (PDB) and Kerrie Barnes (PDB) and one member as a Mentee – Courtney Taylor (Currumbin SLSC). FAREWELL KERRIE In September 2000 Point Danger was set on a course of success for the future when a young female member of North Kirra SLSC was employed. Kerrie Barnes had already started to prove herself in a leadership capacity as the first female club captain within the branch when she was elected in that position at North Kirra in 1996.

The branch role for which she was originally employed has grown and transitioned in the last 20 years. When asked what her professional role entails, Kerrie will explain, as SLSQ Point Danger Branch Manager, it is her responsibility to oversee the office, logistical and calendar management of the Branch as a whole, identify and implement necessary policies, procedures and systems, liaise with and advocate for clubs and members alike and to provide professional support to Club Administrators.

However, she has done so much more – she has gone above and beyond, year in and year out and has led a team of volunteers not only to manage the Branch but to ensure its success. In doing so she has become a mentor to many people in Surf Life Saving and provides advice, help and support to any that require it. Recently she was named a Mentor in the inaugural SLSA Female Mentor Program.

During the past 20 years, Kerrie has assisted and supported three different Branch Presidents and countless other Club Presidents, State Presidents, Committee Members and Life Members of clubs, Point Danger Branch, SLSQ and SLSA. Her straight talking, hard line and no-nonsense approach (or tough love) has earned her an enviable reputation.

While the past 20 years have been memorable and the Branch would be fortunate to have Kerrie’s wisdom and expertise for another 20, it is time for Kerrie to forge her next path and conquer the next challenge. Kerrie has accepted a role with SLSQ where she will be taking what she has done so successfully at a branch level to an entire state.

The branch’s loss of Kerrie as an employee, is no doubt a significant gain for the state. While Kerrie has made the move physically, we know that her roots are buried deep within Point Danger Branch and we know we will continue to see Kerrie on the beaches south of Talle Creek.

CLUB REPORTS – TALLEBUDGERA SLSC What started out to be the best season in many a year at Tallebudgera SLSC actually turned out to be the most frustrating season ever thanks to the Covid-19 virus.

The Club recorded an increase in numbers including members, nippers, competitors and awards. Patrols were very well organised with great numbers. Thank you to the Patrol Captains and all the dedicated patrol members for their service. The Club Captain and Vice-Captain are to be commended for the hard work and hours spent on and off the beach making sure all patrols were well organised and well manned.

The Covid-19 virus had numerous effects not only the beach with patrols being cut back to surveillance but also the Queensland and Australian Championships being cancelled. Some Tallebudgera competitors were scheduled to perform well – however they will rebuild for next season.

Tallebudgera Supporters Club has also gone through a substantial change. The Club had planned to start renovations in July but due to the closure of the club this was bought forward to April and finalised by June. Renovations included a new lift, new reception area, new offices, new stairwell and changes to the TAB area upstairs.

The Supporters Club President and Board of Directors continue to make the right decisions about the club operations and in turn this enables the surf club to function at the highest level possible. Thanks to the General Manager who is not only in charge of the duel administration but also took on the role of Project Manager during the renovations.

This season the Nippers saw record numbers and new families join. A big thank you goes to the Junior Activity Chairperson and the Nipper Committee as well as all the Age Managers who did a magnificent job. The Junior Activities Committee has again reformed for the start of the upcoming season and we are looking forward to an even better year.

The Club is pleased to announce that we have re-signed our Club Coach – Guy Andrews for the next two seasons.

The Training Department once again performed to the highest standard. Thank you to the Chief Training Officer and the dedicated team of trainers – whose efforts saw a recorded increase in awards gained by members.

Tallebudgera are very pleased to introduce the new IRB Racing Team for the upcoming season. However, due to Covid-19 the carnivals have been postponed. Thanks to the IRB Captain and Vice- Captain. The Club is looking forward to supporting the team in competition.

The efforts of the Executive and Management Committees, Surf Sports Committee, the newly formed Boat Committee and Surf Ski Section cannot be understated for the hard work put in week in week out. It is sometimes a thankless task being part of a volunteer club and Tallebudgera SLSC appreciates the time and dedication that is committed.

A special thanks to outgoing Club Secretary Tony Dunlea who has continued many years of service to the Club in both committee and active roles.

Thanks are also extended to the sponsors who supported Tallebudgera SLSC in season 2019/2020.

CLUB REPORTS – PACIFIC SLSC

2019/2020 marks the 73rd season that Pacific SLSC has been patrolling North Palm Beach, and it’s fair to say that with the unprecedented events of Covid -19, the last few months of the season were certainly very different to previous years. However, the club has continued its mission of no lives lost between the flags, continued growth, whilst maintaining the club’s family-oriented values and culture.

It was also a season where the clubs saw the passing of two much loved and valued Members. Renee Riddle who has been a stalwart on the nipper committee over many years and the beloved Club Patron and Life Member Mal McNeilly MBE whose contribution to not only Pacific SLSC, but surf lifesaving and the community is immeasurable.

Pacific SLSC’s proud record of member recognition continued with Anne Turner, Rebecca Farley and Jillian Jordan all receiving the McPherson Community Award for their dedication and commitment to the community and Rachael Clark being recognised at the annual Women in Surf event.

The Management team continues to deliver on the goals based on the club’s five-year strategic plan, focusing on connecting with members and the community, sustainable growth, governance and maximising the recognition of club and member achievements, to deliver good outcomes in all facets of surf life saving. Even in trying times during the Covid-19 pandemic the club was sustained using modern technology and weekly meetings to steer Pacific SLSC to the end of the season, whilst managing resources and fulfilling governance and club priorities.

Through the fantastic leadership of the Club Captain, Pacific SLSC continues to set high standards with beach patrols and the level of skill need to maintain proficiency, that is highly regarded throughout the surf lifesaving fraternity. This season the Club completed 4,715 hours of patrol, an additional 332 Operational Support hours, 3 rescues, 43 preventative actions and 116 awards.

Pacific SLSC’s financial position continues to be solid and is attributed to not only good fiscal management led by the Treasurer, but also through sponsorship and donations as well as members rolling up their sleeves for various fundraising and sourcing of grants. This season the club through the donations and grants secured $117,909.00 that was invested back into rescue equipment, building renovations and equipment for the training room.

The nipper program continues to provide a valuable impetus creating an environment that continues to increase the number of young life savers coming through this valuable program. With strong numbers, Pacific SLSC had another successful year in nipper surf sports, training and development.

Youth development continues to be part of the ongoing success of Pacific SLSC, and although some challenges in the later part of the year with many events being cancelled, the club continued to support and grow youth with members attending Point Danger and SLSQ programs.

Club results in surf sports continue to go from strength to strength. Season 2019/2020 saw the club have a record number of members attend training and producing good results at nipper and senior levels. The highlight was Grace King achieving a bronze medal in the U14 Champion Life Saver at the SLSQ Surf Rescue Championships.

To club Officer Manager, Gabrielle Kinneally and Kerrie Barnes and the team at Point Danger Branch, a big thank you for their continued support and guidance throughout the season. It is certainly appreciated and vital to Pacific’s continued success. CLUB REPORTS – PALM BEACH SLSC Palm Beach SLSC has been impacted by Covid-19 but it didn't break the club spirit – as a Club there is definite pride in the manner in which Palm Beach SLSC handled this and its continued community mindedness during this period.

The active members still patrolled Palm Beach until the close of season with no loss of life between the flags. Never forget that a Surf Club is all about our volunteer patrollers and thanks are extended to all active members for their contribution over the season.

The changes in the Club operations and the behind the scenes work from committee members was second to none. Further, their work over the last three years has enabled Palm Beach SLSC to be in a solid financial position during these unprecedented times.

The club is working on a new strategic plan for 2020 to 2025, in conjunction with the Supporters Club, this will be finalised prior to season 2020/2021 commencing. The Club has also experienced a huge increase in revenue due to a renewed partnership with the Supporters Club and the hard work of the Club Grants Officer.

The club’s membership growth is still continuing with a 10.55% increase in nippers. There was also a 3.7% increase in active members.

The Supporters Club has continued to make significant financial contributions to Palm Beach SLSC coupled with continued in kind support and assistance as required. During the Covid-19 pandemic the Supporters Club team have been working tirelessly - cleaning, painting and refreshing the clubhouse while the club has been closed. This has included a clean of the dormitories, hallways scrubbed and painted, memorabilia moved from the storeroom to the Training Room arranged in date order and cleaned. Further the Gym was cleaned and scrubbed, fire doors replaced, gym windows replaced. The Club has also been working on a timeline of Club History which is being compiled along with scanning of all Annual Reports.

Season 2019/2020 Annual awards night this year looked a little different as it was hosted via the online platform Zoom, but as always the Club members had a good time and Palm Beach SLSC was able to recognise the members who have gone above and beyond.

Three members were recognised by for their volunteer efforts receiving McPherson Community Achievement Awards for their outstanding contributions to lifesaving. Congratulations to Anna Carroll, Simone Haugh and Daragh Murphy.

Thanks are extended to all members who help the club whether it be water safety, officiating, age managers, fundraising, etc and encourage those who have not yet put their hand up to get involved. It takes a lot of people to keep the kids on the beach at nippers and to patrol Palm Beach.

Thank you to the Branch Office and Committee members for their assistance throughout the season.

Thanks are also extended to the Committee who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the success of Palm Beach SLSC. CLUB REPORTS – CURRUMBIN SLSC Season 2019/2020 was a season like no other. In March 2020, when the club wrote to the membership at the outbreak of COVID 19, we foreshadowed that some difficult decisions would be required if Currumbin was to endure. The Club noted that there would need to be sacrifices and hard work with no guarantee of reward. We said that there would need to be more give than take. The Club asked for patience and kindness. What the club has witnessed in the last three months has been inspirational and humbling.

The Currumbin SLSC members – who, despite their other passions, are lifesavers first and foremost – marched to the beach in waves to attend patrols which were not their own – just to make sure the beach was covered and Currumbin Beach was safe. In truth, I believe that each was attending to ensure that their fellow members were safe as well. In fact, on many occasions, it became necessary to remind patrollers to stay a little further apart, such were the numbers and the response. Not even border closures could keep the Club Captain, away.

It has been humbling to observe the amazing Supporters Staff pick themselves up from their own shock and disappointment to then simply turn to their friends and workmates to offer help and support. The Club has witnessed co-workers checking on each other and offering to help or just to talk if lonely. Some of the staff have made a habit of walking past the Club every morning and night, “just to check that the Old Girl is okay”.

Currumbin SLSC have been privileged to witness the most inspirational leadership. Club CEO Michael Sullivan, General Manager - Chris Kelly, Director of Surf Sports - Kurt Wilson and Lifesaving Administrator - Carole Walle – as one – have made sacrifices of all kinds, simply to will this Club forward. The hours of unpaid work, the late nights, and the early meetings, with just one common goal as the focus – to protect the Club and the people in it! This group has silently made great sacrifices with no expectation of credit or thanks in return. But I thank these magnificent people on behalf of the smallest nipper and the longest serving Life Member and everyone in between. Let history record what they have done.

It has been a privilege to chair virtual meetings with the most amazing Committees – both for the Supporters Association and the Surf Club. I have seen the synergy which lives at the point where business smarts and financial acumen meets passion and protection of culture. These members – all of them volunteers – give hours of their time when, frankly, they did not have them to give and where, in more than a few cases, their own financial or personal circumstances were falling apart. Heartfelt gratitude extends to Paul O’Shea, Andrew McIntyre, Marsha Maynard, John Lacheca, Courtney Taylor, Sean Winter (and his dedicated Junior Committee), Barry Woodger, Paul Phelan, David Dwight and Murray MacLachlan.

This is the 100th year. Thank you to the Club Social Director, the 100th committee and the Summer Surf Girl committee all of whom worked tirelessly to prepare for many spectacular events to mark this glorious occasion, culminating in our Gala Ball. All of the love and hard work will not be wasted – we will have our celebration! It will be even better!

And finally, as a club we have learned so much about our members. To all of you who have reached out to me and to each other, simply to check in or to ask questions or to offer ideas, help, encouragement or even criticism, I thank you. All of it shows your care for the Club. What I have witnessed is your capacity to keep turning up for each other. Not because it is easy. But because it is right. Because you are Vikings!

More is learned through adversity than through success. Only when adversity comes and surrounds us and a lone voice in the dark calls “Who stands with me?”, do we discover what is real and solid and true. This season has shown me what is real and solid and true. It wears Green and White. It is mighty! It is us! CLUB REPORTS – TUGUN SLSC What a different season this has been, seeing fewer competitions held over the season, surveillance patrols, lock outs from normal club and facilities use including the gym and Supporters Club due to COVID19. Tugun SLSC has been proactive in keeping up with the situation and have been able to continue trading with the Clubs newly installed coffee shop. This will be beneficial to the Clubs finances going forward due to the closure of the Supporters Club for a sustained period of time.

It was great to see an increase in the Clubs overall membership this season (+16.85%), however there was a slight decrease in active patrolling numbers (- 4.73%). Pleasingly, the Club still managed to fulfil the requirements of the SLSQ Patrol Service Contract recording 2 rescues, 189 first aid treatments/marine stings, warning 707 people and performing 120 preventative actions.

Thanks, are extended to all the volunteers of Tugun SLSC who selflessly give their own time to volunteer. It is pleasing to see so many nipper parents gaining awards and participating in patrols on behalf of the Club.

As a Club, Tugun SLSC was saddened to lose a former Club President’s and Life Member - John Mullan during the season. John was an active member of Tugun SLSC over many years, with a strong commitment to the preservation of club history.

This season saw some growth in the surf boat area of the Club - It was great to see so many returning crews, which resulted in some outstanding results, including a Gold for the Female Masters’ crew and the Open Female Crew coming in 6th in the ASRL final held in Mollymook. Thanks to the sweeps and rowers for their efforts on behalf of Tugun SLSC in season 2019/2020.

The long-term coach of Tugun SLSC – Hugh Dougherty stepped down this season after moving away from the Gold Coast. The Club went through a recruitment process and hired seasoned coach Kelly Margetts to overview the water section. The training with both seniors and juniors is progressing well under the new Club coach.

Congratulations are extended to the Nippers Committee for their outstanding efforts in season 2019/2020. Nippers at Tugun SLSC are going ahead in leaps and bounds, both in membership numbers and competitive achievements. Overall, the nippers experienced a 33.17% increase (the highest in the Branch).

The Tugun SLSC Management Committee have been working closely with the Supporters Club this season to progress the finalisation of the sub-lease. The Clubs are also working on a major renovation project with the clubhouse roof in need of replacement.

On behalf of the Club our sincere thanks to Point Danger Branch for all their patience and support of the Tugun SLSC. We also take this opportunity to congratulate Kerrie Barnes, the Branch Manager on her new appointment to SLSQ and we wish her every success for the future. CLUB REPORTS – BILINGA SLSC It was a season that everyone would like to forget from bushfires and then COVID-19 came knocking and overnight put a stop to club activities and Queensland and Australian Surf Lifesaving Championships. The last five to six weeks of patrols saw the volunteer lifesavers carry out Level 3 Surveillance Patrols.

Bilinga SLSC had a favourable season where it was evident that there were peaks and troughs across membership, Nippers, and awards. During the season, the total membership decreased from 237 members to 196 (-17.29%) and this decrease was contributed to a downturn in Nipper membership of 29.78% from 94 to 66 from the previous season. However, the active membership had a remarkable increase of 51% where our patrolling numbers increased from 39 to 59.

During the season, Bilinga SLSC focused on two areas that had been lacking over past years, one being patrolling numbers/active membership with the priority on Bronze Medallions courses and other awards. The total awards gained for season 2019/2020 was 107, an increase of 167.5% compared to a 9% decrease in the season 2018/19. The notable awards gained were Bronze, SRC, IRBCC, First Aid, CPR, Radio and SSV.

There was a concerted effort by the Club to facilitate more Bronze and SRC Courses and both courses were targeted through club members and family groups. There was a strong interest from school groups and as a result Bilinga SLSC signed new members who went on to complete both the SRC and/or the Bronze course.

The patrolling members performed 3,088.67 hours. With a commendable service to the community on and off the beach this season Bilinga Beach was in safe hands. With Brisbane Lifesaving providing the extra numbers to complement the roster and allowed the club to comply with the Patrol Service Contract.

Due to the Level 3 Surveillance patrols Bilinga SLSC maintained a restricted roster of 3 Bronze Medallions members from March which prevented many of the members that reside in Brisbane to attend the surveillance patrols. A small band of local members took up the challenge and patrolled to the end of season.

The Club was successful in obtaining a grant from Queensland Fire & Emergency Services Sustainability Fund to purchase a new Yamaha SSV (3 seats) which will enhance capabilities with alternative mobile patrolling methods in Bilinga’s lifesaving operations.

Bilinga SLSC extends its appreciation to neighbouring clubs – Tugun SLSC and North Kirra SLSC in their assistance of the Club throughout the season.

Lastly, on behalf of the Bilinga SLSC and the Management Committee we extend our congratulations to Branch Manager Kerrie Barnes on her new appointment as the Senior Manager, Business Process and Improvement with SLSQ. Bilinga SLSC very much appreciates the endless support that you have given our club over the past 20 years, your commitment to Point Danger Branch and service to Surf Lifesaving.

CLUB REPORTS – NORTH KIRRA SLSC Season 2019/2020 has been one to remember and for very extraordinary reasons this season. The COVID-19 pandemic that hit the world impacted the club and members. The season ended very differently with only surveillance patrols for a number of weeks.

Junior Activities member numbers grew this season and the Club continues to build on the work of the past years in providing a supportive, friendly and comprehensive nipper program. Thanks to the Junior Activities committee for their commitment to the program and North Kirra SLSC looks forward to seeing further growth and development next season. The nippers are to be congratulated on their efforts and positive attitudes.

Sincere thanks are extended to the patrolling members who once again volunteered their valuable time to keep beach visitors safe. In total, the Club posted over 5,000 volunteer hours this season, and these were cut short by limited patrolling numbers during COVID-19.

This season, the Club had a solid increase in active membership base with a 22.22% increase. The club trained 15 Bronze Medallions, 10 Surf Rescue Certificates and 11 IRB crewpersons. Due to this, the club was able to move to 12 patrol groups which helped lighten the load for all involved. Special thanks to the Club and Vice Club Captain for their contribution in ensuring that North Kirra’s patrol obligations were met at all times and the COVID19 restrictions were managed successfully. The Club is thankful to the Point Danger Branch Patrol Team for their patrol assistance over the season, making the patrolling commitments a little more manageable.

In the Surf Sports arena, North Kirra was Runner Up in the Point Danger Branch Surf Rescue Championships with several members qualifying for the SLSQ Surf Rescue Championships. It was great to see some younger members join the team and the Club looks forward to next seasons carnival. Unfortunately, the carnival season came to a sudden halt, with State and Aussie Championships cancelled for both youth, masters and seniors. The Club did however have a few great results in the earlier nipper carnivals that were held throughout the season. Youth Member Cody Wilkinson was named as a member of the Point Danger Branch Representative Team. North Kirra SLSC members continue to compete in the IRB competition with Kirra SLSC had some amazing results, with the entire team taking out 1st Place at the Aussies. It is pleasing to see some regular attendees to the Club’s training sessions.

Overall, it has been a year for the history books in terms of the worldwide pandemic following a start to the year that included drought like conditions. This all impacted on the club’s operations, however the club and its members responded to the challenge admirably and the Club is planning for the future.

The Committee members continue to dedicate to the Club in so many ways – their efforts and contribution during this trying season are much appreciated. The Club is in a great financial position to weather the storm whilst also still moving forward.

CLUB REPORTS – KIRRA SLSC

The finishing touches are far from complete and the lights are still on as Kirra SLSC shut the patrolling season down for another season. Given the year that has been for all clubs, not just Kirra SLSC, it is important to acknowledge and thank every member, not just from Kirra but all members across the life saving organisation that continue to serve their local communities and be a part of something bigger.

To Kerrie and the team that continue to keep the Point Danger Branch as the frontrunners across the state, I would like to pass on a massive thank you as nothing is ever too hard. Whenever you need help at a club level, the help is there from the Branch management and the support is always reassuring to have so you never feel alone.

At Kirra SLSC the IRB team (after massive sacrifices) were able to climb the highest peak to become the Australian U23, Open and Overall IRB Club Champions, a championship feat not seen at Kirra since 1947. This team is remarkable in every sense; from their dedication to training and attitude, their continual effort in ensuring they raise the funds necessary to not be a burden on the club, their commitment to all club events, for many stepping up on to the Management Committee to keep the club running, to representing their club with such humility. The Club is so extremely proud of all members of the team.

The club has seen an increase in membership numbers over the previous season and the club continues to do what it can with the limited space. As committees change each season Kirra SLSC looks forward to welcoming new people with fresh ideas to join the team and continue the great work in lifesaving, junior development and community for the ultimate goal of creating the next generations of lifesavers.

This year saw a change in the Club Office Manager halfway through the season and Kirra SLSC could not be happier with the selection. The club’s communication has improved immensely and many areas which our volunteer members were struggling to find time for have been relieved by the Office Manager who knows club business implicitly and understands the strategic direction.

The Kirra SLSC future direction continues to be governed by what the members need and the Club five to ten-year plan has us considering options to improve the master plan of the pavilion. In consultation with the GCCC, Kirra SLSC hopes to see many improvements in the future to be able to service the local community more. CLUB REPORTS – COOLANGATTA SLSC

While the majority of the 2019/2020 season has been an outstanding success for Coolangatta with no lives lost on the beach, an increase in active patrolling members and generally prosperous times thanks to the ever-giving volunteers and dedicated Supporters Club, it was also an end to a season like no other. From mid-March 2020 the Coronavirus COVID-19 global pandemic impacted daily lives and due to the Government’s required social distancing laws, Coolangatta SLSC was forced to be closed to members.

Coolangatta Beach was totally closed and barricaded off, patrols were reduced to surveillance only, club social and sports events were affected with cancellations or postponements including Annual Dinner and Bronzies Day, SLSQ and SLSA Championships. While it is an event never-before seen in the history of the club, planning is already underway for a return to club operations. Although circumstances are still unfolding, and the full impact of the Covid-19 is yet unclear the health and wellbeing of our members is the first and foremost priority for Coolangatta Surf Life Saving Club.

Despite beach closures near season end the visitor numbers increased this season to 48,934 and the patrolling members still contributed an impressive 6,043 hours on Coolangatta beach. With 34 rescues, performed, 52 preventative actions, 150 First Aid treatments including 139 people treated for Marine Stings and warned 2,078 people about possible dangers that could have easily ended up becoming a rescue.

Total membership was slightly up this year with 385 overall members: together with an increase in active patrolling members. Nipper numbers were reduced this season to 74 Nippers.

The Training Team achieved some fantastic results for us with 39 Bronze Medallions, 14 SSV, 20 First Aid, 27 Radio, 19 CPR, 3 Beach Management, 13 Tractor, 10 SRC, 3 IRBC and 4 IRBD awards completed.

The Supporters Club has continued to thrive in 2019/2020 and the excitement of looming record profits was slightly tempered by the early ending of the season due to COVID-19 restrictions. In a first for the club, the Coolangatta Supporters Club Manager has been awarded the Best New Member. The Manager received his Bronze Medallion this season and has given an immense amount of time and support to the club and surf lifesaving. He has been committed to patrols, fundraising and demonstrating an all-inclusive and cohesive effort to the club. Thanks to the dynamic team of Supporters Club staff who support Coolangatta SLSC in all its activities.

Throughout the season there are so many dedicated volunteers working to bring the best to Coolangatta gives me great pride in the club and its members. Thanks are extended to the Management Committee and Office Bearers for their continued dedication other. Thanks are also extended to the Club Office Manager for the support that she provides to the Club Members.

Thank you also to our Point Danger Branch officers and staff, to Kerrie Barnes and Ken Hunter for all your assistance throughout the year. CLUB REPORTS – TH&C SLSC Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, the 109th season has been filled with a lot of positives for TH&C SLSC. At the end of season 2018/2019 the members were handed the highest accolade possible when TH&C SLSC was named the SLSQ Point Danger Branch, SLSQ and SLSA Club of the Year for 2019. This was a true reflection of the work that has been done by Club members for over 100+ years.

Overall membership has shown a slight decrease in season 2019/2020 however the club has recorded an increase in Active Membership.

The Active members have again ensured that the core goal of keeping fatality free has been maintained. Thanks to all members who have volunteered their time in season 2019/2020. The training team are to be congratulated on their hard work throughout the season adding 30 new Bronze Medallions and 29 SRC to the Clubs patrolling team.

Club member Clayton Schilg performed an amazing rescue in January 2020 whilst on holidays at Wooyong Beach. Clayton rescued 4 members of the public. Clayton (14) has been awarded the Rescue of the Month (NSW), Life Saving Excellence Award (QLD) and SLSQ Point Danger Branch Youth of the Month. The club training team have been congratulated for their involvement in his training.

The Nipper season was unfortunately cut short with the Queensland Championships cancelled for the year. This was particularly frustrating as the TH&C nippers were firing and hopeful of some great results. Thanks are extended to the coaching staff for their involvement with the development of the Nippers. The Club Junior Activities Chairperson will be stepping down after 8 years and TH&C SLSC are appreciative of the tremendous effort by him throughout the tenure of his role.

Club Youth members have also been busy with regular events throughout the year and there has been some great success with the retention rates of youth members.

Club competitors were unable to attend Queensland, Australian and World Championships due to their cancellation. The Masters Pool Rescue Team defended their Australian Pool Rescue title winning this title for a second year in a row in August 2019. Three members – Mariah Jones, Leah Jones and Chantel Luxton represented Australia at pool rescue events internationally.

The Club hosted the Point Danger Branch Senior Championship and it was such a success that the Branch have booked again for next year. Congratulations also to the Boardriding team who won the Gold Coast Boardriding Teams Trophy.

The Club has transitioned to a GCCC lease which helped to secure the land at the rear of the club. The Building Committee has had a busy time on a number of projects including the beautification of the rear of the club, the construction of the new storage shed and most currently the renovations of the male change rooms.

The project at the rear of the club has been able to be completed thanks to a grant for $107k from Sport Australia and the remainder has been done through cash flow without any additional borrowings. The continual support from the THC SLSC Supporters Club is much appreciated

The Club has also been successful in a number of grants that have allowed the club to purchase a tractor, IRB motor, defibrillators, rescue boards, mannikins and surf sports trailer.

The TH&C SLSC “Old Boys” have again this year provided a workforce whenever required and helped out with the purchase of important training equipment.

Finally, thanks to the Board of Management, the Helens (Admin Staff) and the crew at Point Danger Branch who have also contributed to the success of the club this season. CLUB REPORTS – RAINBOW BAY SLSC Season 2019/2020 was a challenging season for Rainbow Bay SLSC - from the beach being closed, wild weather, numbers on the beach, to long patrol hours, early starts and late finishes. The Club is appreciative of all of the efforts of the red and yellow army.

The Rainbow Bay SLSC active members achieved an outstanding result with all patrols filled while keeping the community safe at Rainbow Bay.

The Rainbow Bay Nippers program was very successful this season with an increase in membership. Thanks are extended to all Team Managers, Water Safety personnel, the Club Junior Activity Chairperson and Youth Officer for their efforts in engaging with the Clubs youngest members.

In turn this is a vital component of the future success of the club developing nippers to gain Surf Rescue Certificate or Bronze Medallion and becoming an active patrol member at Rainbow Bay.

The Rainbow Bay SLSC Clubhouse has continued to evolve throughout the season with renovations completed to female member bathrooms, with additional shower facilities and extended floor space. Additional works are currently being reviewed by the Committee for council approvals, and the Club will continue to grow and update the clubhouse facilities to benefit all members.

The Club have faced some challenges this season adhering to Gold Coast City Council requirements and keeping the building compliant with its upkeep to ensure that regulations for the lease renewal are met. With the dedication of the Building Committee these works have been completed. Rainbow Bay SLSC will continue to work closely with Gold Coast City Council to build a solid foundation for a continued and successful Club for seasons ahead.

Whilst the 2019/2020 season ended with some uncertainty due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Rainbow Bay SLSC will come through this and be ready to grow, nurture and successfully lead to benefit all members in the new season. MEMBERSHIP – SENIOR MEMBERS
