WELCOME TO THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA CAMPUS!

The University of Florida (UF) is a major, public, comprehensive, land-grant, research university. The state’s oldest and most comprehensive university, UF is among the nation’s most academically diverse public universities.

Florida has 16 colleges and more than 200 research, service and education centers, bureaus and institutes. More than 100 undergraduate majors are offered. Over 1,200 freshmen and sophomores participate in the honors program, which offers over 100 honors courses per semester.

The Graduate School coordinates almost 200 graduate programs. Professional degree programs include dentistry, law, medicine, pharmacy and veterinary medicine.

The university libraries form the largest information resource system in the state of Florida, containing more than 5.6 million volumes, 7.9 million microfilms, 453,000 e-books, 158,695 full- text electronic journals and 1,162 electronic databases.

UF has a 2,000-acre campus and more than 900 buildings (including 170 with classrooms and laboratories). The UF residence halls have a total capacity of some 7,500 students and the five family housing villages house more than 1,000 married and graduate students.

UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA BAT HOUSE The Lake Alice Bat House on the UF campus houses more than 100,000 mostly free-tailed bats. Each evening at dusk, onlookers can watch the bats fly out into the night. These bats usually eat half their body weight in insects each night. The bats keep 220 pounds of leafhoppers, moths, midges, winged ants, beetles and other night-flying insects away from us Gators. This is the largest occupied bat house in North America, and maybe the world.
