RESEARCH AND THE SCIENTIFIC ADVISORY COMMITTEE (SAC): Over the past year, we have continued to bring the burden of drowning in South Africa to the attention of the academic, emergency care and government institutions. Dr Jay Matthew presented aspects of our work at the EMCON 2016 conference in India and recently received confirmation of a publication in the SA Medical Journal. In addition, Dr Colleen Saunders has presented a study investigating the epidemiology of drowning in South Africa at the 2016 conference of the Emergency Care Society of South Africa hosted by the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. This work has been submitted for publication and is accepted for an oral presentation at the WCDP17 in October. Dr Matthew has embarked on working with medical doctors who have been involved in LSA to establish the Medical Advisory Sub-committee. This advisory panel will be a sub- committee under the Lifesaving Committee. A number of LSA members, together with local and international experts in the drowning prevention, participated in a survey to develop a research agenda for LSA. This study Annual Report 2017
