₪ Call for Expressions of Interest – Professional Development Workshops Mackay Regional Council would like to provide a series of professional development workshops for artists and arts and cultural organisations across the region. The dates for these workshops are yet to be confirmed however it is likely to be happening from August 2008 onwards. We are currently seeking expressions of interest from people wanting to participate. The proposed workshops will include:

• Grant Writing and Project Development; • Oral History Collection and Management; • Strengthening Business Arts Partnerships.

☼ Boundless: Artists’ Books from the Mackay Regional Council Collection / Until November 2008 Since Mackay City Library began purchasing Australian and international artists’ books in 1995, Mackay Regional Council’s collection has continued to grow, and is now considered to be one of ’s most significant. In addition to providing a snapshot of highlights from this collection of artists’ books, the 60 works selected for display in Boundless exemplify the diversity and inventiveness of a growing number of artists exploring this artform, one that consistently confounds and defies simple definition. ☼ The Harvey Collection Photographic Images / Friday 11 July - Sunday 31 August 2008 View historic photographs taken by William George Harvey (b. 1888 d. 1961) and Robert Christie Harvey (b. 1889 d. 1966) held in Mackay Libraries local history collection. The brothers were born in Mackay and were respected ornithologists, with their bird photographs appearing in a number of publications and books. The Harvey brothers were dedicated to nature photography and produced a significant record of the wildlife of the local area. ☼ Bazaar and Rummage by Sue Townsend / Opens Friday 11 July, 8pm Kucom Theatre’s offering for the 2008 Mackay Festival is Bazaar and Rummage by Sue Townsend, the author of The Diary of Adrian Mole. The play is about a self-help group of agoraphobic women who have been persuaded that the perfect way to help them overcome their fears is to get involved in staging a bazaar and rummage sale at their local church hall. With the help of a trainee social worker, they tackle the first major obstacle - getting there - only to be faced later on with the horrifying prospect of having to make their way back home. ☼ Tattersall’s Club Landscape Art Prize 2008 / Entry Form Due Friday 25 July 2008 The Tattersall’s Landscape Art Prize is one of Australia’s most lucrative Landscape Art Prizes. The Arts Prize is acquisitive. The winning entry will receive: $20,000; Highly commended: two business class airfares to Europe sponsored by Emirates; and Members Choice: $5,000 gift voucher for Hardy Brothers Jewellers.

The artist is required to submit a painting relating only to the landscape theme which refers to any aspect of landscape executed in traditional or contemporary painting style and may include figures in landscape. There MUST be an element in the painting that refers to land. Only one entry per artist. An entry fee of $44 is required to be forwarded with the entry form by Friday 25 July. ☼ Visions of Australia / Applications for Round 31 close on 1 September 2008 for projects commencing on or after 2 February 2009. Visions of Australia aims to enable more Australians to enjoy our diverse culture by accessing high-quality exhibitions of cultural material. It provides funding to eligible organisations to develop and tour exhibitions of Australian cultural material across the country, in particular regional and remote areas. Exhibitions should have a predominantly Australian source or theme. All applications must be in the required format and must be received by the advertised closing date. Late applications and applications that are emailed or faxed will not be accepted. Funding is not available for projects that commence before the indicative commencement date. ☼ Indigenous Small Grants / Next Assessment date is 14 October Indigenous Small Grants provides an opportunity for Indigenous organisations and organisations that work with young Indigenous people and communities to support new initiatives or expand existing successful initiatives. Funds are available for initiatives that enhance youth participation or create opportunities for the development of young people aged 12-25 years. Applications will be accepted from non-profit organisations (including local government and schools). If your organisation is not an Indigenous organisation please provide information of your organisation’s experience in working with Indigenous people and organisations. Grants offer a maximum of $5,000.
