It is meant to be used together with a lifestyle therapy regimen involving a reduced calorie diet and increased physical activity. How Does Belviq Work? Belviq works in the brain as an appetite suppressant. Who Should Not Take Belviq? Women who are pregnant, nursing, or planning to become pregnant. How Is Belviq Dosed? Message from the Board Chairman Welcome to the Gem State! Thank you for downloading the Idaho Pharmacy Law Book, which compiles select state laws relevant to the practice of pharmacy in or into Idaho. The Board acknowledges that changes in the education and training of pharmacists, as well as rapid advancements in the technology environment, have required a change in approach to regulating the practice of pharmacy. The Board continues to embrace those changes and the growth of our profession. Rule 27.01.01.100 provides guidance to licensees and registrants as they determine whether a specific act is permissible. First, a licensee or registrant should consider whether the act is expressly prohibited by any state or federal law. If an act is not expressly prohibited, the licensee should consider whether: • The act is consistent with the licensee or registrant’s education, training or practice experience; and • Performance of the act is within the accepted standard of care that would be provided in a similar setting by a reasonable and prudent licensee or registrant with similar education, training and experience. Two questions that may help licensee or registrant’s successfully navigate this change in approach from prescriptive rules to professional judgment follow: 1. If someone asks why I made this decision, can I justify it as being consistent with good patient care and with law? 2. Would this decision withstand a test of reasonableness (e.g., would another prudent pharmacist make the same decision in this situation)? You should consult an attorney if you have questions as to the legality of your actions under the laws and rules regulating pharmacy in the State of Idaho. -

Schedule IV consists of the drugs and other substances listed in this section, by whatever official, common, usual, chemical or trade name designated. 2. Unless specifically excepted or unless listed in another schedule, any material, compound, mixture or preparation containing any of the following narcotic drugs, including, without limitation, their salts, calculated as the free anhydrous base of alkaloid, is hereby enumerated on schedule IV, in quantities: (a) Not more than 1 milligram of difenoxin and not less than 25 micrograms of atropine sulfate per dosage unit; or (b) Dextropropoxyphene (alpha-(+)-4-dimethylamino-1,2-diphenyl-3-methyl-2-propionoxy- butane). 3. The Department was given notice that the following depressant drug was placed into Schedule IV by the Federal Government: Alfaxalone 5[alpha]-pregnan-3[alpha]-ol-11,20-dione, including its salts, isomers, and salts of isomers On February 27, 2914 the Administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) placed the substance Alfaxalone 5[alpha]-pregnan-3[alpha]-ol-11,20-dione, including its salts, isomers, and salts of isomers into schedule IV of the Controlled Substances Act (CSA). This scheduling action is pursuant to the CSA which requires that such actions be made on the record after opportunity for a hearing through formal rulemaking. This action imposes the regulatory controls and administrative, civil, and criminal sanctions applicable to schedule IV controlled substances on persons who handle (manufacture, distribute, dispense, import, export, engage in research, conduct instructional activities with, or possess) or propose to handle Alfaxalone. Section 329-20, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by amending subsection (b) to read as follows: §329-20 Schedule IV. -

TITLE 16. CRIMES AND OFFENSES CHAPTER 13. CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES ARTICLE 1. GENERAL PROVISIONS § 16-13-1. Drug related objects (a) As used in this Code section, the term: (1) "Controlled substance" shall have the same meaning as defined in Article 2 of this chapter, relating to controlled substances. For the purposes of this Code section, the term "controlled substance" shall include marijuana as defined by paragraph (16) of Code Section 16-13-21. (2) "Dangerous drug" shall have the same meaning as defined in Article 3 of this chapter, relating to dangerous drugs. (3) "Drug related object" means any machine, instrument, tool, equipment, contrivance, or device which an average person would reasonably conclude is intended to be used for one or more of the following purposes: (A) To introduce into the human body any dangerous drug or controlled substance under circumstances in violation of the laws of this state; (B) To enhance the effect on the human body of any dangerous drug or controlled substance under circumstances in violation of the laws of this state; (C) To conceal any quantity of any dangerous drug or controlled substance under circumstances in violation of the laws of this state; or (D) To test the strength, effectiveness, or purity of any dangerous drug or controlled substance under circumstances in violation of the laws of this state. (4) "Knowingly" means having general knowledge that a machine, instrument, tool, item of equipment, contrivance, or device is a drug related object or having reasonable grounds to believe that any such object is or may, to an average person, appear to be a drug related object. -
The Melanocortin-4 Receptor As Target for Obesity Treatment: a Systematic Review of Emerging Pharmacological Therapeutic Options

Obesity is currently responsible for B0.7–2.8% of a country’s health costs worldwide. Treatment is often not effective because weight regulation is complex. Appetite and energy control are regulated in the brain. Melanocortin-4 receptor (MC4R) has a central role in this regulation. MC4R defects lead to a severe clinical phenotype with lack of satiety and early-onset severe obesity. Preclinical research has been carried out to understand the mechanism of MC4R regulation and possible effectors. The objective of this study is to systematically review the literature for emerging pharmacological obesity treatment options. A systematic literature search was performed in PubMed and Embase for articles published until June 2012. The search resulted in 664 papers matching the search terms, of which 15 papers remained after elimination, based on the specific inclusion and exclusion criteria. In these 15 papers, different MC4R agonists were studied in vivo in animal and human studies. Almost all studies are in the preclinical phase. There are currently no effective clinical treatments for MC4R-deficient obese patients, although MC4R agonists are being developed and are entering phase I and II trials.
