2020-11-11 Rules of the Road, Section XII.D.1.c

In Rules of the Road, Section XII.D.1.c should read: “However your team choses to record your solution (see Section XII.D.1.b), no two team members may be in the same physical room during your team’s virtual Instant Challenge video solution AND no two team members may be in the same window. A window is defined as an area in the virtual Instant Challenge video solution that shows the video feed from one camera. This is to ensure a level playing field for all teams, regardless of health and safety guidelines in your local area.”

This second Published Clarification we can disregard since props are not allowed in Case Closed.

2020-11-11 Rules of the Road, Section XII.C, Table B, Rubber Band

In Rules of the Road, Section XII.C, Table B, Rubber Band should read: "7in (17.5cm) unstretched loop length; 1/8in (3mm) thickness width. Measure the unstretched loop length by pinching the rubber band at each end to lay the band flat. Then measure the distance from end to end." Published Clarifications ● When the International Challenge Masters feel there is an issue about a Team Challenge or the Rules of the Road that all teams must know about, they write a Published Clarification, which is then posted on destinationImagination.org.

● All teams must abide by any changes in rules established in Published Clarifications Published Clarification ● A Published Clarification supersedes Rules of the Road and the Team Challenge, as well as a Team Clarification.

● It is important to check the Clarification web page frequently throughout the time leading up to your tournament. Private Clarification ● Teams that have questions about their solution or the rules may ask for a maximum of 10 Team Clarifications, which are answered by International Challenge Masters (ICMs) ● Teams may only ask ONE question per Clarification request ● The deadline for requesting Clarifications is January 31st, 2021. ● It is your team’s responsibility to bring one copy of any Team Clarifications you receive to each tournament to make sure that Appraisers are aware of the answer to your question(s). GETTING STARTED To Enter ● Create and submit a Video Presentation based on the Challenge requirements ● Your team is also encouraged to submit an optional Q&A Video to explain important elements of your solution Getting Started Time Limit ● Your team’s Video Presentation must be no longer that 5 minutes, measured from the start of the video ● All Challenge elements must be present within the 5-minute time limit ● If your team’s Video Presentation is longer, your team will not earn points for anything that is presented after the 5-minute mark

● Team’s optional Q&A Video must be no longer than 3 minutes, measured from the start of the video. ● If your team’s Q & A Video is longer, Appraisers will not review anything that is presented after the 3-minute mark Getting Started Tournament Data Form ● Your team must explain elements of your Challenge solution on the Tournament Data found on the Resource Area of DestinationImagination.org

● Your Regional, Affiliate, and/or Tournament Director will determine which Improv unknowns release date and submission deadline will be used for your tournament ● Your team may use as much time as you wish to prepare and record your Video Presentation, as long as you meet the submission deadline (See Rules of the Road, Submission Procedures for All Team Challenge Solutions.) Central Challenge A. Video Presentation ● The team will create an Improvisational Video Presentation that tells a story about a Detective and a Sidekick who team up to solve a Mystery with the use of a Forensic Technique ● The team will include a True Clue and a Red Herring in the Video Presentation ● Your team may include more than one of each Improv Element in your Video Presentation. However, only one of each Improv Element (Detective, Sidekick, Mystery, Forensic Technique, True Clue, and Red Herring will be scored. ● All Improv Unknowns your team must use in your Video Presentation will be publicly released on DestinationImagination.org on one of the following dates CASE CLOSED A. ● Examples of Mysteries are “Someone stole all the cookies,” “The furniture has been rearranged,” and “There is a very strange smell in the air”

● Before the Improv Unknowns release date for your tournament, your team will research the Detectives listed in Table 1 ● On the Improv Unknowns release date, three Detective will be released. ● Your team should use good judgment when researching Detectives to ensure your solution is appropriate for all audiences. (see Rules of the Road, Conduct and Concerns and Rules of the Road, The Team Manager’s Job.) CASE CLOSED D. Required Improv Element 3: Sidekick ● On the Improv Unknowns release date for your tournament, three Sidekicks will be released. Your team will not know the Sidekicks until the Improv Unknowns release date.

● For this Challenge, a Sidekick is a character with a special skill or personality trait who helps the Detective solve the Mystery.

● Examples of Sidekicks are “Master Chess Player,” “Research Librarian,” and “Fitness Class Instructor.” CASE CLOSED E. Require Improv Elements 4 and 5: True Clue and Red Herring ● On the Improv Unknowns release date for your tournament, three Clues will be released. Your team may choose which two of the clues to include in your Video Presentation.

● Your team will not know the Clues until the Improv Unknown release date. ● For this Challenge, a Clue is a piece of information that is used in the process of solving the Mystery. Examples of Clues are “The combination is 4-2-2-1”, The doctor’s name is Argyle,” and “There is a secret door.” CASE CLOSED E. Require Improv Elements 4 and 5: True Clue and Red Herring

● One of the Clues, the True Clue, must help the Detective and the Sidekick solve the Mystery ● The other Clue, the Red Herring, must mislead and/or distract the Detective and/or the Sidekick as they attempt to solve the Mystery ● Your team may decide which Clue will be the True Clue and which will be the Red Herring CASE CLOSED F. Require Improv Elements 6: Forensic Technique

• Before the Improv Unknowns release date for your tournament, your team will research the Forensic Techniques listed in Table 2 • On the Improv Unknowns release date, three Forensic Techniques will be released • Your team may choose which one of the Forensic Techniques to include in your Video Presentation • Your team will not know the Forensic Techniques until the Improv Unknowns release date CASE CLOSED F. Require Improv Elements 6: Forensic Technique ● During the Video Presentation, the Forensic Technique must be used to help solve the Mystery ● Your team may decide whether the Detective, the Sidekick, and/or a different character uses the Forensic Technique during the Video Presentation Table 2: Forensic Techniques

● Your team should use good judgment when researching Forensic Techniques to ensure your solution is appropriate for all audiences (see Rules of the Road, Conduct and Concerns and Rules of the Road, The Team Manager’s job) CASE CLOSED G. Video Presentation Materials

● Your team must not use physical props, scenery, or costumes, including anything worn during the Video Presentation or anything in the performance space environment, to enhance the Skit

● A costume is anything that has been worn or altered with a specific solution in mind prior to the tournament

● Graphics on shirts or other clothing are acceptable as long as they do not contribute in any way to the Challenge solution CASE CLOSED G. Video Presentation Materials ● If Clothing, accessories, props, scenery, or graphics are incorporated into the Video Presentation, they will be considered props. This will result in a deduction ● Virtual backgrounds, special effects, graphics, titles, digital sound effects, etc. must not be included in you Video Presentation. This will result in a deduction CASE CLOSED G. Video Presentation Materials ● The Team Manager and any other non-team members must not contribute to your team’s Video Presentation. This includes, but is not limited to editing the Video Presentation ● The Team Manager may assist in recording your team’s Video Presentation but must not use any recording techniques that might enhance your Video Presentation ● If a non-team member is found to have contributed to your team’s Video Presentation, your team may receive an Interference deduction Honoring the Intent of This Challenge ● The intent of this Challenge is to create a unique improvisational Skit based on the specific combination of Improv Unknown release on the Improv Unknowns release date for your Tournament ● Prior to the Tournament, the team is encouraged to prepare by generating different scenarios, creating potential characters, and mixing and matching the various Improv Elements in practice sessions when combining the Improv Elements into your Video Presentation ● If your team moves on to another level of tournament with one or more of the same Improv Unknowns, you are encouraged to create a new solution II. Submission Requirements Performance Space ● Your team may use any space(s) to record your solution. Your team should be sure to use a space that allows for all elements of your solution to be clearly seen and/or heard in the Video Presentation

● Upload your team’s Video Presentation to a YouTube account ● Set the video’s privacy to “unlisted” ● Submit the link in the appropriate blank in your team’s online Prep Checklist, found in the Resource Area of DestinationImagination.org II, Submission Requirements Video Presentation ● The Team Manager may assist the team in uploading the Video Presentation ● The YouTube account should be held by an adult II, Submission Requirements Optional Q&A Video ● Your team may choose to submit a Q&A Video that explains important elements of your solution.
