• Use inference and evidence from the text to support your answer. Help for my Grown Up

• Inference Inference is taught through the ‘Point, Evidence, Explain’ (PEE) model. Children must fully explain their opinions and ideas in their answers using evidence from the text. They should read between the lines (this means to use the information in the text that we are told - to work out things we are not told directly), compare different points of view and give their own opinions. Point: This is briefly what they think. Evidence: what information in the text lead them to think that. Explain: link what they think to the evidence they have given. However, sometimes questions do not require a point as that is given in the question. How much space is given to answer can help guide you in how fully the model needs to be used. Some questions will only require the evidence. Please see Additional PPE Guidance sheet for further explanation if you are unsure. Draft and edit the rest of your character description.

Today you will finish drafting your character description. You will then edit what have you done today. Help for my Grown Up

Today they will draft the rest of their character description. You may wish to do a shared write with yourself and the child or as an alternative, the example from the WAGOLL is on the slides, which specifically focuses on the particular paragraph(s) they will be writing today. Read through this with the child so they are clear / have a prompt on what to write. Explain to the child that they must spend 2 minutes reading over their plan and refer to it whilst writing their draft so that they keep on track with what they have planned to write about. Lastly, remind the child that this is a draft so we are not expecting it to be perfect and they will be spending time editing it at the end of today’s lesson.

● If your child is completing the 3 star activities they are to draft paragraph 2 and 3 today.

● If your child is completing the 2 star activities they are to draft paragraph 2 today.

● If they are completing the 1 star activities they to draft paragraph 1 today. Example of paragraphs for today: Miss Magic’s fashion sense really reflects her personality. Just like her clothes, she is a bright and colourful person. Her presence brings a smile to anyone around her. You could say it’s infectious! She has a kind, gentle soul in that she will do anything for the children in her class. In fact, her only downfall is that she may sometimes forgets to spend time looking after herself because she spends most of her time caring for others. Although Mrs Magic has a bubbly disposition and a calm approach to teaching, you would not want to Paragraph 2 get on the wrong side of her. If you dare to speak without putting your hand up in class, she will give you a stare that travels straight through your soul. Mrs Magic, who places a high importance on being polite and well-mannered at all times, has high expectations for her class. Therefore, she does not tolerate silly behaviour. Her favourite phrase to use is ‘treat others the way you wish to be treated’. Mrs Magic does not believe in shouting at children; however, she believes being firm but fair is an important approach to take. She is as wise an an owl.

In regards to Mrs Magic’s tone of voice, she has an Irish accent and is mostly softly spoken. However, she often adapts her voice intonation depending on the subject she is teaching. When she is disappointed, she goes very stern. Alternatively, when she is delighted, Mrs Magic speaks with a bouncy, high pitched tone. No matter where she is in the classroom Paragraph 3 you are always able to hear her clearly. When Mrs Magic wonders round the tables, as she enthusiastically teaches the class, she will often throw her arms in the air to emphasise important information that we are required to remember. She likes to prance around the classroom making sure everyone is alert and listening. Gushes of lavender and hair spray fly into your nose, giving an overpowering freshness to the classroom. She likes to wear lavender because she claims it is calming for the mind and hopes that it decreases the amount of stressful energy that can sometimes occur in classrooms.

write a short style script on the life cycle of an Amphibian. Help for my Grown Up

Today the children are to learn the stages of an Amphibian’s lifecycle.

Go through each slide with the child. When you reach the ‘Features’ slide make sure the child can tell you at least 5 features without looking at the slide again.

Watch the video, which shows the lifecycle of a Frog. Ensure the child learns all about the stages. They can take notes (pausing it) and re-watch the video as many times as they like to help them.

Then they are to create a script to read out loud describing the Frogs life cycle. The aim is to read it as if they were David attenborough, narrating a wildlife program. On the last slide is an example of what they could write in each stage. Who is David Attenborough?

Sir David Frederick Attenborough (born 8 May 1926) is an English broadcaster and natural historian. He is best known for writing and presenting, the BBC channel. Have you heard of Blue Planet? He often is the voice on documentaries based on animals and life around the world.

Today, you are going to act as David Attenborough and write a short script to the people you live with to inform them about the life cycle of an amphibian.

Hope you’ve got your David Attenborough voices ready! 1 2
