After the Calcutta project is completed, in about five years, Calcutta has a duty to help build Mayapur. ISKCON Mayapur should no longer send its membership makers to the Calcutta/Howrah area. In exchange ISKCON Mayapur may choose whichever of the following options they prefer: a) 2 1/2 lakh rupees per month, adjusted annually for inflation; or b) 30% of funds collected from the enrollment of new life members, but not less than two lakh rupees or more than five lakh. ISKCON Mayapur can retain their entire membership team.

The Stages of Bhakti. Odessa. 2004. Lecture 1. En. I will speak a little about the opening verses of the tenth chapter of the “Bhagavad-gita”. And the reason why I decided to choose this topic ... they are numerous. One of them is that we often underestimate the “Bhagavad-gita”, the fact that we open it and think, “I know everything. Everything is clear – I am not this body, Krishna is God”. You can close the “Bhagavad-gita” and put it on the shelf. But actually, the greatest minds of the mankind have read and re-read the “Bhagavad-gita” over and over again. And we need to do the same, because in the process of such repetition our desire for Krishna becomes stronger and stronger. Krishna Himself explains that in the twelfth chapter of the “Bhagavad-gita” where He says that abhyasa, this method (abhyasa means repetition or practice), abhyasa, or the practice, the constant repetition is the method that will make our desire stronger. That is the very fan which we use to kindle the spark of our desire to go to Krishna. it is impossible to understand where from this spark has flown into our hearts. Only God knows where from! By causeless mercy, we have met the devotees, and the devotees, Srila Prabhupada's books, have instilled in our heart a spark of faith. Abhyasa or the constant practice of repetition allows that spark to ignite, allows us to turn it into a flame. That is one of the reasons why we should go back to the “Bhagavad-gita” again and again and try to read in it what we have not seen before, constantly comparing it with our own experience.

  • How I Came to Krishna Consciousness by Lokanath Swami
How I Came to Krishna Consciousness by Lokanath Swami The unseen merciful hand of Lord Krsna helps a determined young student become one of Srila Prabhupada’s first Indian disciples. I was born in Aravade, a small village in the Indian state of Maharashtra that differs little from more than seven hundred thousand others in India. After I graduated from high school, my family sent me to Bombay to study chemistry in college. But my college career was not to be. In the year 1971, in late March, something happened to prevent me from following the program my family had so carefully laid out for me. For the first time, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada was touring India with his foreign disciples. They had arrived in Bombay just before I had, and now they were going to have a pandal (a spiritual festival) at Cross Maidan. The devotees publicized the pandal very widely, in newspapers and on billboards. In the advertisements, Srila Prabhupada’s disciples were described as American, Canadian, European, African, and Japanese sadhus (saintly devotees). This was unprecedented. Previously, whenever the word sadhu had been applied to someone, it was understood that the person was Indian. There could be no other consideration. But these advertisements were talking about sadhus from all over the world. This was indeed a novelty for every Bombayite, and it especially fascinated me. Intrigued, I went to the Hare Krishna Festival, which was quite well organized. The Hare Krsna sadhus were the biggest attraction for me. I appreciated their singing, dancing, walking, and talking.

  • Names and Dates
Names and Dates By Urmila Devi Dasi THE ELEVEN-, twelve-, and thirteen-year-olds raise their hands with questions. "Do we need to know the difference between the Constitution and the Articles of Confederation?" "Will there be questions on the test about the Revolutionary War?" "Do we really need to know this stuff?" During the years I helped write the American history textbook used in many ISKCON schools, I also often asked myself, "Do our children really need to know this stuff? What will they do with their knowledge of history?" Srila Prabhupada told gurukula teachers that students must know the most important facts of their country's history. The children should not appear to be fools, he said. So we teach our children history. But we obviously have a different view of what history is about. As devotees of Krsna, the main way we identify ourselves is not with our nation but with the Supreme Lord who lives eternally in the spiritual world. And the material world with all its nations is just a flash in eternal time. So when our children learn history, they see it in a different perspective. But although we are spiritual beings, we are born into this material world, and that means being born in a particular country. So we have to deal with that. People commonly allude to historical persons and events. So our children should be familiar with what is assumed to be common knowledge. Moreover, as future teachers of Krsna consciousness, our children need to have not only a theology but a vision of how that theology can apply to present domestic and international problems.

  • Regard for Devotees of the Lord
Dynamic, Expanding Bliss: The Hare Krsna Mantra Lord Krishna's holy names bring light to downtown London on a Saturday night. by Urmila Devi Dasi We cross Oxford Street with five mridanga drums, two loud deep African drums, karatala cymbals, an accordion, and an electric guitar. Our chanting party consists of over a hundred members, from so many countries and ethnic backgrounds that the diversity is startling. There are men in dhotis, in suits, and in jeans, women in saris, colorful dresses, and subdued business clothes. We race or dance down the street, singing as fast as we run, churning up waves of spiritual joy. The lead singer wears a wireless microphone on his head, and one member of the group carries a loudspeaker in a backpack. The electric-guitar player has his own speaker. So many devotees respond to the lead singer's chanting that all the words of the great mantra for deliverance--Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare--distinctly echo through the London streets. To this native New Yorker, the streets are narrow and the buildings short, but the atmosphere is that of any major Western city on a Saturday night. Many in the crowd must see us each week, but there are also large numbers of tourists and people who come from around the country to sample the culture of central London. And there is much to sample--pubs, gambling houses, live theater, movie houses with multiple screens, discotheques that open at 9:00 P.M., and shops of all variety.
