ABOUT THE ARTISTS Melba Opera Trust is ’s premier scholarship program for promising young opera singers. Since our debut in 2009, our program has provided scholarship support and training to over 40 exceptional Australian singers, with most now pursuing professional operatic careers nationally or internationally. Our unique approach combines business and industry training with artistic development. Melba scholars emerge as polished young professionals – intrepid freelance artists with sharp business acumen and a global understanding of the opera industry.

Tonight’s performance proudly features alumni Morgan Balfour (soprano) and Matthew Reardon (tenor), alongside current scholars Daniel Carison (baritone) and Jonathan Wilson (piano). We are delighted to have the creator of Nights at the Opera, Stephen McIntyre AM, appearing as narrator.

Morgan returns to us from the American summer, where she has been studying at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. A graduate of Wales International Academy of Voice, Matthew recently made his title role debut in New Zealand as Don José in Carmen for Festival Opera in Napier. Daniel made his international debut earlier this year in a concert production of Die Zauberflöte as Papageno with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. Jonathan has a Doctorate of Music (Piano Performance) from the University of Montreal and in September, will perform with Daniel in the final of the Joan Sutherland & Award and Foundation’s Song Prize.

Melbourne Recital Centre acknowledges the people of the Kulin nation on whose land this concert is being presented.
