QUORN FOOTBALL CLUB Rothwell Corinthians began to play competitive football in 1934 when they joined the Kettering and District Amateur League. The idea of the team was first put forward in a terrace house in Littlewood Street. At that time the league had three divisions and the Corinthians were placed in the Second Division.

When football resumed after the second World War, the TODAY’s Corinthians were playing at the old recreation ground. This VISITORS venue was their headquarters for the majority of the next twenty years.

The Corinthians introduced their first reserve team into the league in 1950 and, nine years later, they brought the first senior league honours to the club when they became Champions of Division Three.

The following season the first team won the First Division ROTHWELL Championship and they repeated this feat in 1964. However, CORINTHIANS FC the following season they were relegated and by the end of the decade they found themselves in the Third Division. Facts and It was not until 1979 that they began to get themselves Figures noticed again as they were promoted to the First Division and also managed to reach the N.F.A. Area Cup Final. The Founded 1980-81 season marked the beginning of the emergence 1934 of the club as we know it today. With the move to Rothwell Town’s Cricket Ground came a more professional approach Nickname to the organisation of the club. Coinciding with this the The Corinthians League had re-styled itself as the East Midlands Alliance Manager and lifted its standards, a move much appreciated by the Corinthians. In 1984 the Corinthians gained promotion to Wayne Abbott the Premier Division. Meanwhile, behind the scenes the 2019-20 club had purchased the land on which the present facilities United Counties are located. These facilities were officially opened by League - Premier Town in 1986. Division Season 1989-90 saw the Corinthians lift their first Premier Ground Division Championship. The season 1994-95 saw them Sergeants Lawn secure their second Premier Championship, and after consultation with the United Counties league Management Committee, promotion was secured.

The club saw three appearances in the Junior Cup Final with a win registered in 2008. Promotion to the United Counties Premier Division was achieved the same season under the management of Frank Ielapi assisted by Paul Smith.

QUORN FOOTBALL CLUB QUORN FOOTBALL CLUB cont...... With Ielapi and Smith standing down after one season at the higher level Corinthians changed managers each of the following two seasons but struggled in their time at level 5. They still managed however to win the Youth League Cup and Reserve Supplementary Cup in 2009/10 but the First team dropped back down into Ucl Div1.

Shaun Sparrow joined as manager rejuvenating the club with promotion back to the Premier Division in 2015.

The Reserves have also had recent success with two UCL knockout Cup Finals in 2016 and 2017 , winning the first, and were losing finalists in the NFA lower Junior Cup in 2014.

During the 2019/20 season we made it to the 1st Qualifying round of the FA Cup and the final of the League Cup (which unfortunately wasn’t played during to Covid 19). This year Wayne Abbott is in charge having been number two to Mitch Austin last year.

As the number of COVID-19 infections continues to increase, a reminder of the government’s instructions for us all to follow and comply with.

- Wash your hands - - Wear a face covering - - Observe social distancing - - Obey the rules -

We must also ask all supporters to adhere to our COVID-19 guidelines at all times whilst in the ground and surrounding areas plus support our “track and trace” measures which are mandatory.

Help us to help you, our supporters and demonstrate that football at our level in the non league pyramid can continue to be enjoyed outdoors by both players and fans alike. We would like to remind supporters of their responsibility to the FA Respect Campaign.

It is also very important referees and assistant referees are shown the respect that they deserve whilst trying to carry out the very difficult job of controlling a game of football.

There will always be decisions that we may not agree with but we do not think that anybody should have to put up with some of the abuse that has been heard at some games. It should be remembered that without officials we do not have a game of football.

QUORN FOOTBALL CLUB QUORN FOOTBALL CLUB QUORN FOOTBALL CLUB QUORN FOOTBALL CLUB The international break very rarely affects Non-League clubs, but Non-League is increasingly influencing the international scene.

Each season we see more players deservedly earn moves into the Football League – and some even go on to reach the absolute peak.

Over the last seven months the football pyramid has become even more divided, with ‘Project Big Picture’ now trying hard to increase the gap but the importance of lower league clubs to the product on the pitch has never been more obvious.

Six players in Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad have had stints in Non-League and there were five in the side Ryan Giggs picked for Wales when the two teams met last week.

Nick Pope started the friendly fixture at Wembley having begun his career in the Eastern Counties League with Team Bury before progressing to Bury Town in the .

Following his move to Charlton Athletic, Pope went on loan to Harrow Borough, Welling United, Cambridge United and Aldershot Town for more crucial experience of first team football.

The back up England goalkeepers against Wales, Jordan Pickford and Dean Henderson, are also no strangers to Non-League. Pickford had loan spells at Darlington and Alfreton Town while Henderson played in goal for Stockport County just over four years ago when they were in . He’s also pushing to become Manchester United’s number one.

Centre back Tyrone Mings impressed in senior football at Yate Town and Chippenham Town in the Southern League before a successful trial at Ipswich Town forged the start of his top flight career.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin made his England debut and scored, in the 3-0 win over Wales. A debut goal was nothing new to the Everton striker, as a seventeen year old he bagged on his first appearance for Stalybridge Celtic against Hyde on Boxing Day when Sheffield United sent him out for game time. On New Year’s Day, in the reverse fixture, he scored twice and set up three.

Danny Ings also got in on the act at Wembley, scoring his first goal for his country via a bicycle kick. Ten years ago, he was netting in Non-League at Dorchester Town on loan from Bournemouth.

Many others in the England squad either started or showed their talents in the lower reaches of the Football League before stepping up into the spotlight.

Non-League football and its clubs play a vital role in developing players just as much as the top flight academies – every player has a different path and their roots should not be forgotten.

QUORN FOOTBALL CLUB QUORN FOOTBALL CLUB QUORN FOOTBALL CLUB HISTORY

The origins of Quorn Football Club can be traced back to 1924 when a group of local lads from the Village Wesleyan Chapel formed a football team. In 1937 the Club, then known as Quorn Methodists gained access to the Leicestershire Senior League with a final name change to Quorn Football Club taking place in 1952.

Throughout its history Quorn FC has consistently been a high flyer among Leicestershire’s senior teams, producing several players that have progressed to higher levels of excellence. Jackie Lee a Centre Forward went on to play for Leicester City and Derby County becoming an international, when he played for England v Ireland and scored. Richie Barker, who went on to play for Derby County and Notts County later managed Stoke City, Dion Dublin, who enjoyed a great playing career joining Manchester United, Aston Villa, Coventry, Leicester City, and Norwich as well as playing for England.

In recent times Luke Varney, who was sold by the Club to Crewe Alexandra FC, and who developed into one of their most exciting players scoring 25 goals for them in the 2006/7 season, his quality was then recognised by Charlton Athletic who signed him for £2.5 Million in July 2007.

Quorn moved to its present ground on Farley Way in 1994 with the establishment of a new modern Clubhouse large enough to cater for the demands of a progressive Football Club both on and off the field, a football pitch with a playing surface that is second to none, and a large Astroturf training area.

Driven by the Club’s ambition to have a ground satisfying the facility criteria of Leagues at a higher level in the Football Pyramid, the following 14 years has seen remarkable progress, with the development of a 350 Seat Grandstand, built with the potential of increasing it’s future capacity to 500, large spectator car parking facilities, outside spectator toilets, and the establishment of a large grass training pitch to compliment the Astroturf.

The 2019-20 season sees the Club looking for a bit of stability, the First Team Management led by our First Team Manager – Martin Carruthers will look to improve the playing squad with new signings, whilst still looking to bring on the Clubs youngsters. Martin’s Management CV is well known in Non-League Football as well as a fantastic playing career with many clubs but best known for playing with Stoke City, Peterborough United, Southend United, Scunthorpe United and Macclesfield Town.

Martin was last manager at Basford United FC who play at Step 3 in The Evo-Stik - Premier Division.

Ade Draycott and Frank Benjamin manage our Under 21 Squad in The – Under 21 East Division.
