2 2 April 2011 SALVATIONIST www.salvationarmy.org.uk/salvationist COMMENT only lightly. I mean those people who seem to be naturally fluent in the language of generosity and can easily disperse their expertise, their hospitality, their laughter, their time And not to and so on. This week’s edition of Salvationist might well have been produced under the working title of Giving. We can read about officers who have given count the their all, about Army people who are giving, and have given, their lives to Christ. We can even read about what Reliance Bank has to give its customers! Not forgetting that this cost edition coincides with General Linda Bond’s first day in office. She, we know, will give everything she has as our new leader. Someone once said that while it is possible to give without loving, it is impossible to love without giving. We need only read John 3:16 and the pages of this week’s paper for evidence of that. Speaking of John 3:16, I have been listening to We Preach Christ, the latest CD by Govan Songsters. I love it, especially ‘Divine Right’ with its beautiful words: ‘Christ has the right, the right of love; love which NSTINCT already tells me that demands the whole. The disciples speak in many different languages; the word of God can now be heard everywhere. The Bishop of Chelmsford, the Right Rev THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT Stephen Cottrell, continues his York Course There is an unpredictability to the Spirit. Like the risen Christ himself, God’s Spirit series for Lent entitled Rich Inheritance… cannot be pinned down. That’s why the Jesus’ Legacy Of Love Spirit is depicted in different images – a dove, water, wind and fire. The New Testament’s consistent teaching is that the Spirit will be known by the fruit produced in human lives, listed by Paul in Galatians 5:22 and 23. But I don’t believe this list is intended to be exhaustive. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Jesus – manifesting himself in different ways, in different people, at different times, into new truths and towards new challenges. And in every situation, the Spirit will be fruitful in our lives in new ways.
