All European Union Citizens are included in the Spanish Social Security and should bring forms E111/E-128 or European Health Card from their country of origen/ residence. Citizens from other countries should check with their local Spanish Embassy. If a student is under medical care, we advise him/her to bring sufficient medication to cover his/her stay in Spain. Sandwiches: The Pans & Company fast-food sandwich chain is always easy, with a branch on Calle Prior across from Burger King (daily 10:30-24:00). OHFF T E BEATEN PAth Locals and students head just a bit outside the old town to hit the tapa/pincho scene along a main artery called Calle Van Dyck. It’s about a 20-minute walk or a short taxi ride from the edge of the old town, but it’s worth the effort as there are several cheap and tasty options. You’ll spend, on average, €2.50 for a caña (small beer), which comes with a small tapa. To get there on foot, go to the end of Calle del Toro, cross the main drag (Avenida de Mirat), and go up Calle Maria Auxiliadora; after crossing the wide Avenida de Portugal, take the third left onto Calle Van Dyck (see map on page 372).

In literature it may justly be said to extend from the early 16th century to the end of the reign of Philip IV in 1665; in medicine, from the beginning of the joint reigns. of the Catholic Monarchs, Isabella of Castile and Ferdinand of Aragon, in 1479 to the death of Philip II in 1598. These were tumultuous years for Spain and for the European world in general. For Spain particularly, the conquest ofGranada, the expulsion ofthe Jews, and the discovery ofAmerica in 1492, meant a confirmation of its role as conqueror, now wholly achieved within its own land, and an appetite for renewed conquest wherever else Spanish energies carried its peoples. Conquistadors passed to Mexico and Central America in the traditional sense, but conquistadors existed within Spain in the realm of the arts and architecture, and more particularly in the realms of medicine and surgery. The practice and development of these sciences during this period of released vigour constitute an enormous area of study, the complexities of which are considerable. Any attempt to include all this within the compass of one paper will necessarily be highly selective. Omissions and simplifications, therefore, must be attributed to an attempt to indicate in outline some of the major aspects of the period: medical licensing; education; the place ofreligion in the provision ofinstitutional health care; the practice of dissection, and the teaching of anatomy, surgery, physiology; the practice of representative areas of medicine; the place of classical tradition in medical theory and practice; and the transfer of medical knowledge and skill to the colonies.

Estudio exploratorio Desde el mes de abril de 2007, diversas entidades sociales que desarrollamos proyectos en el Distrito de Salamanca, hemos generado un espacio de encuentro, debate, reflexión y formación, con el fin de identificar ideologías, necesidades y objetivos comunes a la hora de impulsar acciones que prevengan y actúen contra la exclusión y fomenten la participación social en nuestro distrito. De esta manera surge un grupo de trabajo en red, denominado La Reversa (Red Asociativa y Vecinal del Distrito de Salamanca), promovido y compuesto por cuatro entidades sociales (Fundación Adsis, AMIS Aurrera, La Merced Migraciones y Fundación RAIS), con la colaboración continua de la Asociación de Vecinos Guindalera, así como la participación de otros agentes y entidades sociales del distrito.
