I have reached the age when I sympathize more fully than ever with the writer of Ecclesiastes when he says, "There is no man that hath power over the spirit, to retain the spirit, neither hath he power over the day of death. All things r:ome alike to all; there is one event to the righteous, and to the wicked. For to him that is joined with all the living there is hope; for a living dog is better than a dead lion." In this vein, I feel compelled to gather together in an orderly fashion such information about our family as I can glean from recollection; from those living who know somewhat; from books that may fall under my scrutiny; but mainly from the voluminous notes of my beloved, scholarly, precise father, Dr. Robert Bell Woodworth, who could have done this job so much better than I. I remember once chiding "Dad", when he was spending so much time on other .peoples' genealogies, to "Leave hoary old myths and interminable genealogies alone." It is with reluctance, therefore, that I assume this task, but feel that I would like to honor the memory of those who have gone on before, who were like as we are, some good, some bad, none perfect I am sure, but each in his own time had joys, sorrows, pain, pleasure, successes and failures.

    PRELIMINARY STATEMENT The following investigative Case Summary pertains to the bombing of the Harry T. Moore1 residence in Mims, Brevard County, Florida, by person or persons unknown who caused the deaths of Harry Tyson Moore and Harriette Vyda Moore2 on December 25, 1951, at approximately 10:20 P. M.. This case has been previously investigated by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) (Case #44-4036), the Brevard County State Attorney’s Office, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) under FDLE Case Number EI-91-26-016. Florida Attorney General Charlie Crist reopened this case in December 2004, and assigned the case to the Division of Civil Rights at Fort Lauderdale. The Division of Civil Rights initiated an official investigation of this case on December 21, 2004, under case number LO - 4 -1358. Attorney General Charlie Crist requested assistance from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Allison K. Bethel, Esq., Director of Civil Rights for the Attorney General’s (AG) Office, was assigned to direct the general course of the investigation. Frank M. Beisler, Senior Investigator at the Attorney General’s Office (AG) of Civil Rights and Special Agent (SA) C. Dennis Norred, of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) were assigned as primary Investigators. AG staff in Tallahassee was assigned to review information, conduct research, and to make recommendations regarding this investigation. SA Norred opened a criminal investigation under FDLE case number PE-01-0048. To clearly understand the current FDLE and Florida Attorney General’s Office Investigation and its results, it is important to fully understand the depth of the investigations conducted by the previously mentioned agencies.

This county is bounded on the north by James river, which washes it about thirty-five nules; on the east, partly by upper Chippoth creek, nud partly by the Surry line; on the south, by Mirrv, Sus-ex. and Dinwiddie counties; and on 'the west, by Appomattox river. It is in length about thirty miles; its breadth is various: the medium is sixteen miles. It originally formed part of Charles City county, which is now confined to the northern side of James river. The river is here about one mile wide at the points; but in the bays, from two to three miles; at the confluence of the Appomattox is City Point, which with Bermuda Hundred, on the opposite side of the Appomattox, forms the port of this district. Vessels of five hundred tons may here load and unload.

OUR REBELLIOUS NEIGHBORS Virginia's Border Counties During Pennsylvania's Whiskey Rebellion by Kevin T. Barksdale* Western Pennsylvania's 1794 Whiskey Rebellion has achieved almost mythic status. Across the rolling hills of western Pennsylvania, the infamous insurrection remains a celebrated event, with local parades, festivals, and reenactments occurring annually to mark the occasion's anniversary. Symbolically, the event has come to represent a plethora of nostalgic and patriotic notions in the nation's collective memory. Participants in so-called "Whiskey Rebellion Festivals" are often drawn to the recreations of frontier life, the celebration of America's tradition of resistance against governmen- tal tyranny, and above all else, the opportunity to assert vigorously their pride in being Pennsylvanians. Western Pennsylvanians have clearly embraced their rebellious forbears and the historical moment that occurred in the region. The Whiskey Insurrection has continued to capture the attention of scholars, inspiring a remarkable amount of historical analysis.

  • Brigadier General John Neville
    Brigadier General John Neville John Neville was born in Prince William (now Fauquier) County, Virginia, on July 26, 1731. His father was Joseph Neville, Sr., and his mother was Elizabeth Bohannan. In 1754 he married Winifred Oldham (1736-1797), and that same year, he served with George Washington in the ill-fated campaign against the French at Jumonville. This defeat at Ft. Necessity marked the beginning of the French and Indian War, and later, in Europe. In 1755 he served under General Edward Braddock in the unsuccessful attack on Fort Duquesne (Pittsburgh). Presley Neville was born in 1755 at the family home in Winchester, Virginia. There John became a landowner, a Justice of the peace and sheriff of Frederick County, and Vestryman of the Episcopal Church. Amelia was also born in Winchester, in 1763. Three daughters did not survive. Presley graduated in 1775 from the University of Pennsylvania with high honors in French classics. The Virginia Provincial Council set John to command Ft. Dunmore (Pitt) in 1775. The dispute between Virginia and Pennsylvania over boundary lines was settled in 1777. He remained there until 1777, when, as a colonel of the Fourth Virginia Regiment, he served at the battles of Trenton, Princeton, Germantown and Monmouth (and Valley Forge?). Presley served as Marquis Lafayette's aide-de-camp for two years. Both John and Presley were captured in the Battle of Charleston in 1780. Following his release in 1782, Presley married Nancy Morgan, daughter of General Daniel Morgan. In 1783 John was brevetted a Brigadier General by the Continental Congress, and he was elected to the Superior Executive Council of Pennsylvania.
