    KERALA BAMBOO FEST 2012 Post Show Report The Department of Industries & Commerce, Government of Kerala in association with Kerala State Bamboo Mission (KSBM) and Kerala Bureau of Industrial Promotion (K-BIP) organized the 9th edition of ‘Kerala Bamboo Fest’ (Kerala Bamboo Fest 2012) at Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium Ground, Kaloor, Kochi from December 6 to 9, 2012. The Fest was inaugurated by Shri. P.K Kunhalikutty, Hon’ble Minister (Industries & IT) in the meeting presided over by Shri. Hibi Eden, Member of Legislative Assembly (Ernakulam) on December 7, 2012. SWAMINATHAN RESEARCH FOUNDATION FOREWORD Every calamity presents opportunities for progress provided we learn appropriate lessons from the calamity and apply effective remedies to prevent its recurrence. The Alappuzha district along with Kuttanad region has been chosen by the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India for special consideration in view of the prevailing agrarian distress. In spite of its natural wealth, the district has a high proportion of population living in poverty. The M. S. Swaminathan Research Foundation was invited by the Union Ministry of Agriculture to go into the economic and ecological problems of the Alappuzha district as well as the Kuttanad Wetland Ecosystem as a whole. The present report is the result of the study undertaken in response to the request of the Union Ministry of Agriculture. The study team was headed by Dr. S. Bala Ravi, Advisor of MSSRF with Drs. Sudha Nair, Anil Kumar and Ms. Deepa Varma as members. The Team was supported by a panel of eminent technical advisors. Recognising that the process of preparation of such reports is as important as the product, the MSSRF team held wide ranging consultations with all concerned with the economy, ecological security and livelihood security of Kuttanad wetlands. Information on the consultations held and visits made are given in the report. The report contains a malady-remedy analysis of the problems and potential solutions. The greatest challenge in dealing with multidimensional problems in our country is our inability to generate the necessary synergy and convergence among the numerous government, non-government, civil society and other agencies involved in the implementation of the programmes such as those outlined in this report.

DEAN KURIAKOSE: SHRI THOMAS CHAZHIKADAN: Will the Minister of FINANCE be pleased to state: (a) whether the Union Government has permitted the Government of Kerala to start a scheduled bank called ‘Kerala Bank’; (b) if so, the details thereof including the details of permission/clearance granted by the RBI in this regard; (c) whether the RBI has conducted any study to analyze the impact on primary cooperative banks due to the introduction of Kerala bank; and (d) if so, the details thereof? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF FINANCE (SHRI ANURAG SINGH THAKUR) (a) & (b): Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has reported that it has accorded final approval to the proposal of the Government of Kerala to amalgamate with the Kerala State Cooperative Bank Ltd, thirteen District Central Cooperative Banks (DCCBs) in Kerala (Thiruvananthpuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Idukki, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod) that have approved the Scheme of Amalgamation (SOA) at least by a simple majority in their General Body Meeting. However, the said approval shall be contingent upon the Hon’ble High Court of Kerala upholding the validity of the amendment made to the provisions of Section 14A of the Kerala Co-operative Societies Act and Government of Kerala complying with certain conditions stipulated by RBI. The approval shall be valid for a period of six months till March 31, 2020. (c) & (d): RBI has reported that no study to analyse the impact on primary co-operative banks due to the introduction of Kerala Bank has been conducted by them.

Home Science Ms. Susan Thomas Chaly, Dept. of Communicative English Student In-charge Ms. Swathi H, II BA English Literature Activities: THE 44TH MOTHER DIGNA EVER ROLLING TROPHY INTER-COLLEGIATE DEBATE COMPETITION “Has social media become the voice of the voiceless?” The Mother Digna Ever Rolling Trophy Inter-collegiate debate competition, organized by the Debate Club and the Speaker’s Forum, along with the Association of St. Teresa’s Alumni (ASTA), was held in the college on the 4th of March, 2021. It was an online event, conducted on the Google Meet platform. Students from various colleges across the country, after prior registration, participated and the best- performing teams were chosen as the winners. The students were labelled into 20 teams, each team consisting of 2 members, one speaking for and the other against the topic- “Has social media become the voice of the voiceless”. Each speaker was given 3 minutes each to speak and 1 minute for rebuttal. There was agile, spirited, and focused participation from all the participants. The performance, lucidity, validity, and pertinence of points and speaking skills were assessed and estimated by the judges Ms. Radhika Lee and MS. Usha Venkatachalam.
