THE PRESIDENT OF ECU, SILVIO DANAILOV, ESTABLISHED COMMISSION FOR -IN-SCHOOL

During his visit to Brussels on 21st March, the President of ECU, Mr. Silvio Danailov, met the European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth, Mrs. Androulla Vassiliou . Mrs. Androulla Vassiliou and President Danailov had an interesting discussion on the potential projects of the ECU supported by with the above-mentioned EU Committee.

During the meeting they discussed about the joint project of the European Chess Union , Chess in School, which provides for implementation of the ancient game in the educational system of the European states. In order to assist him in further steps related with this issue President Silvio Danailov appointed following persons as members of the ECU Commission for Chess-in-School:

SOFIA AND BELGRADE COMPETED IN THE FIRST OF ITS

KIND FRIENDLY CHESS MEGA TOURNAMENT

“MATCH ON 100 BOARDS”-BANKYA’2011

Sofia and Belgrade competed in the first of its kind friendly chess mega tournament “Match on 100 boards”-Bankya’2011, which finished with result of 51.5:48.5 points in favor of the hosts. The tournament was held on 5/28/2011, Saturday, in the town of Bankya (hotel “Bankya Palace”), and was officially opened by the mayor of Sofia, Mrs. Yordanka Fandakova with the dynamic move 1.e2-e4.

The event was attended by politicians, businessmen, celebrities, journalists and chess players from Sofia and Belgrade. In Bankya arrived the Deputy Mayor of Belgrade Mr. Dejan Vasovich, the alderman Mr. Zeljko Ozhegovich, the member of the parliament Pavel Marchok and many representatives of the Serbian elite. The event was covered by many Bulgarian and Serbian media.

The tournament was attended also by the representatives of the male and female national chess team of Serbia. From Bulgarian side was distinguished the names of the European vice-champion and former World Champion GM Antoaneta Stefanova, GM Kiril Georgiev, GM Margarita Voiska and others. The game between clergy- Father Stoyan Berbatov and Miodrag Sivacki contribute to the color of the tournament.

All participants in the match played in the game against their opponents in rate of play 25 minutes + 10 seconds for each move, starting from move one.

“Match on 100 boards” is organized by the European Chess Union. The idea is the initiative to include consecutively and many other European capitals.

The Vice President of the Bulgarian Chess Federation, prof. Nikolay Nedkov welcomed the participants in the friendly match with congratulatory address by the Prime Minister of Bulgaria, Mr. Boyko Borisov.

The winner of the 63rd Montenegro Individual Chess Championship became GM Nikola Djukic!

RUSSIAN CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP FOR CHILDREN UNDER 8 YEARS

Place and date: Kostrom, Russia; 24-30.05.2011

System and rate of play: 11 rounds in Swiss system; 1 hour for all moves+10 seconds for every move, starting from move one.

Total number of participants: 275 boys and 124 girls

For the boys, Chess Champion of Russia became Matvei Pak, born in Moscow with 10 points from possible 11. The silver medal is for Artemij Shidlovskij – 9.5 points and bronze for Viacheslav Jun with 9 points.

For the girls, Chess Champion of Russia is Elizaveta Solozhenkina-10 points. The same result was not enough for Anna Podgornova to win the title Russian Chess Champion and she took the second place. The third place is for Irina Popova.

Invitation

The European Chess Union, the Bulgarian Chess Federation, the National Children`s Chess Foundation “Morsko Konche”, Chess Club “Veselin Topalov” and the Municipality of Varna have the honour to invite the National Federations and the Schools from Europe and around the world to participate in the VI ЕUROPEAN SCHOOL CHESS TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP (U8, U10, U12, U14, U16), which will be held in Varna, Bulgaria, at Grand hotel “Admiral” 5*, Golden Sands, from June 30 until the July 10, 2011.

GENERAL REGULATIONS

1. Participation

1.1. Every national federation may participate with an unlimited number of school chess teams in any of the age categories

1.2. The team consists of four participants (plus 1 reserve) from the same school. Any combinations between boys and girls are acceptable.

1.3. Every team has one leader for its delegation (coach/teacher).

1.4. Players (boys and girls) are allowed to participate given that they are not:

 8 years old as of the 1st of January 2011 (born after the 1st of January 2003)  10 years old as of the 1st of January 2011 (born after the 1st of January 2001)  12 years old as of the 1st of January 2011 (born after the 1st of January 1999)  14 years old as of the 1st of January 2011 (born after the 1st of January 1997)  16 years old as of the 1st of January 2011 (born after the 1st of January 1995) © Europechess.net Page 8

2. Registration

2.1. The Registration Form is completed by either the National Federations or the School Administrations and send by e-mail to the Organizing Committee by June 10, 2011.

◦ If the registration form is not filled by the Federation, a copy must be sent. 2.1.1. The original of the Registration form, signed and stamped by the School Principal, must be provided at the Technical conference

2.1.2. Current colored photos for each member of the delegation and information about the team should be sent along with the Registration form.

3. Tournament Rules

3.1. The tournaments will be held under the Swiss system in 9 rounds. It is played according to the rules set by FIDE. The game is 90 minutes for 40 moves per player plus 15 minutes until the end of the game.

4. Venue - playing hall & official championship hotels

The Championship will be held at Golden Sands Resort, which is located on the Black Sea Coast, 14 km north from Varna.

The Playing Hall will be at Hotel Admiral*****. Next to playing hall there will be the Press Centre, supplied with Wi-Fi and on-line&live video broadcast of the games.

The Official Championship Hotels are 5* Hotel Admiral and 4* Hotel Golden Yavor

5. Awards

5.1. The winning team in each age group will receive the title 2011 European School Chess Team Champion.

5.2. The teams in first, second and third place will receive cups and the participants – gold, silver and bronze medals and diplomas.

5.3. The winners per table will receive gold, silver and bronze medals accordingly and diplomas.

5.4. All participants receive souvenirs and certificates.

6. Financial Terms

6.1. Registration fee. Each team must pay the registration fee for participation of 100 euro.

6.2. Transfer. Transportation (if necessary) from the Airport/Train Station/Coach Station to the hotel and back on departure day is 60 (+20) euro per team – 4 players (+ reserve).

30 euro for the team leader and each accompanying person

6.3. Accommodation. All participants are going to be accommodated in the official hotels, according ECU regulations, regarding youth tournaments.

5.4. Payment. The aforementioned sums (registration fee) + 30% of the total sum for accommodation and food must be deposited by June 10, 2011 (no bank fees) to the following bank account:

 All accommodation fees will have to be paid as pointed out in the Financial Terms (5.4), with the final 70% - until the beginning of the technical conference 5.5. After the registration form and the deposit have been received, the Organizing Committee will begin the registration procedure for the team and will confirm the accommodation in the hotel.

5.6. Teams, which have declared their participation after the deadline (June 10) will have to pay an additional 50% to the initial registration fee.

6. Visa Information

The participants, needing visa, should contact the Organizing Committee for applying for free sport event visa. The Organizing Committee will send them and embassy the invitation letter after receiving the Registration Fee for the Team.

*For all other questions, not included in the General Regulations, the Organizing Committee will take a decision after contacting the ECU.
