Accornero Region: Piemonte PRODUCER: ACCORNERO REGION: PIEMONTE DESCRIPTION: The northern part of the Piedmont is where Barbera finds its boldest expression. These hills are called the Monferrato, and not far from the town of Vignale, amongst what remains of a multifaceted agriculture, the Accornero winery is situated in the middle of its artfully planted vineyard lots. Barbera is obviously the main performer here, but the Malvasia di Casorzo grape has received some good attention through its newly established appellation. HISTORY : In 1897, the great grandfather of Ermanno Accornero purchased the Ca' Cima farm and laid the foundation for the ongoing winemaking tradition. Thus, we do not find overwhelming technology in the Accornero cellar, but solid winemaking experience from many vintages stored in the collective family memory. A Barbera is produced that combines the best of traditional winemaking, with the improvements of modern and clean cellar work. • The Malvasia Wine of Bosa As an Example of Sardinian Terroir Through Its History, Economy, Traditions and Exploitation
SUMMARY Sardinia is not one among the major wine producing regions in Italy, yet the culture of the grapevine and of wine constitute invaluable goods for the island as they are intimately tied up to its 1 Dipartimento di Teorie e Ricerche dei Sistemi Culturali. • Spain Is a Viticulture Miracle Waiting to Happen, and Has Been in This Pregnant State for Longer Than Seems Decent
SPAIN In a nutshell: Land of American oak, sherry, and loin-yielding bush vines. Grapes: Tempranillo, Garnacha (Grenache) (RED), Airen, Viura (Maccabeo), Verdejo, Albarino (XMITE) Spain is a viticulture miracle waiting to happen, and has been in this pregnant state for longer than seems decent. Proud possessor of more land devoted to vines than any other, Spain is only just beginning to capitalize on this resource in any consistent or cohesive way - which is perhaps not surprising. If it had Germany's love of efficiency, or France's respect for bureaucracy, Spain might be sending us oceans of judiciously priced wine made expressly for the international market. But Spain is an anarchic jumble of districts and regions, just as its landscape is an anarchic jumble of staggeringly raw scenery and heartbreakingly awful human constructions, and has to be treated as such by the wine enthusiast. There is real treasure to be found by those prepared to dig, however and, as a connoisseur class develops in Spain itself, all manner of ambitious investors are planning to change the image of Spanish wine. A look at the map suggests just how much climatic diversity there is likely to be between Spain's many wine regions, from the soggy vine yards of Galicia on the north Atlantic coast to the baked Mediterranean south east. Spain's saving grace, viticulturally, is the altitude of her vineyards, many over 650 m (2000 ft). A high proportion of Spanish vineyards therefore manage to produce grapes with good levels of color and acidity simply because night-time temperatures are relatively low, and grapes do not ripen until the end of a usefully prolonged growing season.

Introduction All the factors helping in the production of certified-origin wines must comply with several laws and regulations which impose various limitations. These limitations do not apply to the final product, they are concerned with the vine-growing soil, the grape yield per hectare, the harvest time, and so on. They are in fact control procedures from vine growing to wine making which aim at assuring the production of wines showing constantly the distinctive features which give them the V.Q.P.R.D. appellation (vins de qualite produits dans des regions determinees). Beside the above, other laws command the wine ready to be sold to conform to fixed standards.

  • 2016 Malvasia Bianca Frizzante St. Helena - Napa Valley Betty’S Vineyard
2016 Malvasia Bianca Frizzante St. Helena - Napa Valley Betty’s Vineyard Varietal Composition: Winemaking Notes: 100% Malvasia Bianca The inspiration for our frizzante style Malvasia Bianca is the great wines of the Moscato D’Asti region in Italy. We Appellation: pick the grapes to maintain the high natural acidity and St. Helena – Napa Valley low sugar to keep this wine light and refreshing. The Betty’s Vineyard fermentation is halted in the cellar between 6 and 7 Brix leaving the wine with a sweetness and complexity. The Harvest Date: wine is force carbonated at bottling giving the wine even Sept. 7th more lift on the palate and a nice compliment to the exotic aromatics of Malvasia Bianca. Harvest Brix: 21.0B Vineyard Notes: Barrel aging: Betty’s Vineyard is located adjacent to the winery, and this 100% Stainless Steel varietal was planted there much to our own delight and pleasure. It has become a place we congregate and discuss business during that short period of the year Finished Alcohol: where the fruit is hanging on the vine, and sugars and 9.5% acid come into balance. It is a most delicious grape that wouldn’t survive our nibbling if it didn’t make an even pH: more delicious wine. 2.82 Titratable acidity: Tasting Notes: 6.9 g/L Our 2016 Malvasia Bianca “Frizzante” has aromas of tangerine, lavender, and tropical fruits. This wine also has an intense tamarind and citrus zest quality to it. There is a slight effervescence to the palate and fair amount of sweetness, but the profile is light, airy and refreshing due to the vibrant acidity.
