In 1998 EEA published Guidelines for the implementation of the EUROWATERNET monitoring network for inland waters. In every Member Country a monitoring network should be designed according to these Guidelines and put into operation. Together these national networks will form the EUROWATERNET monitoring network that will provide information on the quantity and quality of European inland waters. In the future they will be developed to meet the requirements of the EU Water Framework Directive. This publication presents the Finnish EUROWATERNET monitoring network put into operation from the first of January, 2000. It includes a total of 195 river sites, 253 lake sites and 74 hydrological baseline sites. Groundwater monitoring network will be developed later. In addition, information about Finnish water resources and current monitoring strategies is given. The annual review and the financial statements of the parent company of the Group are prepared in accordance with the Finnish Accounting Act as well as the guidelines and statements of the Finnish Accounting Standards Board. The information on personnel is based on the calculation systems used by human resource management, and the calculation of the rel- evant information is in compliance with the general guidelines of the Finnish Accounting Stand- ards Board concerning the preparation annual reviews. The environmental data is collected from the information reported to the authorities and from the company’s own data compilation systems. An external emissions trading verifier has verified our carbon dioxide emission report. In other re- spects, the corporate responsibility information has not been verified. Sustainability reporting covers the economic, social and environmental impacts of Fingrid Group’s own operations in 2011. We apply the international GRI G3.0 (Global Reporting Initiative) report- ing guidelines for the first time to our sustainability reporting.     16.1.2019 Suomen hallintorakenteeseen ja maakuntauudistukseen liittyviä termejä sekä maakuntien ja kuntien nimet fi-sv-en-(ru) Tiedosto sisältää ensin Suomen hallintorakenteeseen ja hallinnon tasoihin liittyviä termejä suomeksi, ruotsiksi ja englanniksi. Myöhemmin tiedostossa on termejä (fi-sv-en), jotka koskevat suunniteltua maakuntauudistusta. Lopuksi luetellaan maakuntien nimet neljällä kielellä (fi-sv-en-ru) ja kuntien nimet suomen-, ruotsin- ja englanninkielisiä tekstejä varten. Vastineet on pohdittu valtioneuvoston kanslian käännös- ja kielitoimialan ruotsin ja englannin kielityöryhmissä ja niitä suositetaan käytettäväksi kaikissa valtionhallinnon teksteissä. The Network Statement describes the access conditions, the state-owned railway network, the rail capacity allocation process, the services supplied to railway undertakings and their pricing as well as the principles for determining the infrastructure charge. The Network Statement is published for applicants requesting capacity for each timetable period. This Network Statement is intended for the timetable period 15 December 2019–12 December 2020. The Network Statement 2020 has been prepared based on the previous Network Statement taking into account the feedback received from users and the Network Statements of other European Infrastructure Managers. The Network Statement 2020 is published as a PDF publication. The Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency will update the Network Statement and will provide information about it to rail capacity allocatees and the known applicants for rail capacity in the Finnish railway network.

    SPRING 2000 LARGE FLOOD IN NORTH OSTROBOTHNIA Spring 2000 was marked by great floods in all parts of Ostrobothnia and Lapland. Especially bad situation was experienced in the water courses of the rivers Kalajoki, Pyhäjoki, and Siikajoki. In these rivers both an exceptional ice jam flood and an extra- ordinary water flood occurred. All three rivers are typical Ostrobothnian rivers. There are few lakes, and variation in water level and flow is great. Shores are low and vulnerable to floods. Also the size of these water courses is alike, the catchment area about 4000 km2 and the length of rivers about 100 km. At first in the 1950´ies and before that, the works were primarily clearing and embankments favouring agricultural needs. Later on since 1960´ies, artificial lakes have been built in the uppermost parts of the rivers, and natural lakes have been regulated in order to adjust discharges. A remarkable part of disadvantages caused by floods was eliminated by water construction, but damages caused especially by ice jam can still be considerable. In Finland, due to economical and technical reasons, the flood protection works have been dimensioned for floods with frequency once in 20 years in agricultural areas, and once in 50 to 100 years in housing areas. Works done in water courses The total beneficial area of the flood protection works of the rivers Siikajoki, Pyhäjoki and Kalajoki exceeds 15,000 hectars cultivated land of which about 8,000 hectars belong to the Kalajoki area (Picture 1).
