ABSTRACT The presence of Islam in South Asia originates before the appearance of the Mughals by approximately eight hundreds of years. Those eight centuries are addressed by an amazing exhibit of material stays dispersed across India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. GOVERNMENT OF PAKISTAN PUBLIC SECTOR DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME 2021-22 PLANNING COMMISSION MINISTRY OF PLANNING, DEVELOPMENT & SPECIAL INITIATIVES June, 2021 PREFACE Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) is an important policy instrument aiming to achieve sustainable economic growth and socioeconomic objectives of the government. The outgoing fiscal year PSDP was made with a particular focus on strengthening the health sector and creating economic opportunities to combat widespread disruptions caused by COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of efficient and well-coordinated management of the pandemic, the economy showed signs of recovery and economic growth stood at 3.94% during FY 2020-21. In the upcoming year 2021-22, the priority of the Government is to further spur economic activities. Therefore, the PSDP in 2021-22 has been enhanced by 38% from Rs 650 billion in FY 2020-21 to Rs. 900 billion (including foreign aid of Rs 100 billion). The focus of PSDP 2021-22 is on improving transport and communication facilities with special emphasis on inter-provincial and regional connectivity, investment on building large dams and water conservation systems as per the National Water Policy, augmenting and strengthening health sector infrastructure and service delivery, improving access to higher education, social protection, increasing employment and livelihood opportunities, reducing regional disparities, mitigating effects of climate change, building knowledge economy, enhancing agricultural productivity & ensuring food security and supporting Public Private Partnership initiatives through providing Viability Gap funding. Special Development Packages have been initiated under the Regional Equalization Programme to ensure the development of the deprived areas to bring them at par with other developed regions of the country. -

New Research on pre•Mughal Islamic Material Culture in South Asia Conference of the European Association of South Asian Archaeologists London, July 4• 8 2005 Convenors: Elizabeth Lambourn Senior Research Fellow, De Montfort University and Research Fellow, SOAS Finbar Flood Associate Professor, New York University) The presence of Islam in South Asia pre•dates the arrival of the Mughals by some eight centuries. Those eight centuries are represented by an impressive array of material remains scattered across India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. The remains reflect an engagement with a broad array of material and architectural traditions in South Asia as well as those of the metropolitan centres of the wider Islamic world. Although the pre• Mughal material has never been ignored entirely, the Mughal period has tended to dominate scholarship on Islamic material culture in South Asia. The last three decades have, however, seen a real surge in research on this area from scholars worldwide. In spite of this activity, the field retains a relatively low profile internationally, not least because it straddles the two subject areas of "Islamic" and "South Asian" archaeology and art. The proposed session aims to provide an inter•disciplinary forum specifically dedicated to pre•Mughal Islamic archaeology and material culture in South Asia. The session will offer a unique forum for scholars to present their research to a specialist audience and represents a key opportunity for intellectual exchange across current political and disciplinary divides. The breadth of the geographical and chronological frame involved makes it difficult to anticipate all the issues that will arise from the session however we anticipate that the session will address a number of important issues. -

Preparatory Survey (II) on Karachi Circular Railway Revival Project Final Report 2.3 Geological Survey The geological survey was carried out to determine subsoil conditions along the route of Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) in Karachi. The survey included boring survey at specified locations along the rout of KCR. The subsoil samples were collected from the boring, and laboratory tests were conducted. The survey analysis is based on 90 boreholes (24 boreholes of 15 m in depth, 44 boreholes of 20 m in depth) and the laboratory test results. The fieldwork was carried out from April 09, 2012 to July 28, 2012. The geotechnical conditions and parameters for the development of the proposed infrastructure and facilities are recommended in this section. 2.3.1 Scope of Work The scope of work for the geotechnical survey is as follows: (1) Core drilling with Testing Core drilling will be made for bedrock, soil and unconsolidated deposits that may contain boulders. The diameter of the boreholes shall be not less than 60 mm. Every effort shall be made for 100% core recovery. Standard penetration tests (SPT), in accordance with ASTM D1586 or the equivalent, shall be carried out every 1.0 m of depth in the sections of bore holes which are located within soils, unconsolidated deposits or intensively weathered rocks, to evaluate the mechanical strength of those materials. Undisturbed sample shall be obtained with appropriate equipment and shall be sent to the laboratory for the purpose of the obtaining data to determine physical and mechanical properties of the soils. Permeability test shall be carried out by piezometer method to determinate hydraulic properties of aquifer in boreholes. -
