THE JAZZTET TO GIVE CONCERT AT MUSEUM OF MODERN ART
The Jazztet, led by Benny Golson and Art Farmer, will give the
Jazz In the Garden concert at the Museum of Modern Art on Thursday,
September 21, at 8:30 p.m. The modern jazz group replaces The Buster
Bailey Sextet, originally scheduled. Golson, on tenor sax, and Farmer,
on trumpet, will be joined by Grachan Moncur, trombone, Hal Maybern,
piano, Tommy Williams, bass, and Roy McCurdy, drums.
Admission to the promenade concert, one of a Thursday evening
series presented by the Museum and Metronome magazine, Is 50 cents
In addition to the regular $1.00 admission to galleries, open Thursdays
until 10 p.m. Supper and light refreshments are served in the penthouse
restaurant.
In case of rain the concert will be canceled; tickets will be honored
aifc the jazz concert foilowing> September $8* perforners to be announced.
The Jazztet, formed In 1959, tB known for polished ensemble work
and melodic treatment. Differing from many modern jazz groups, its
cohesive sound results from tight arrangements.
Benny Golson is the composer of "I Remember Clifford" and "Whisper
Not." He has played with Johnny Hodges, Dizzy Gillespie and Lionel
Hampton. Art Farmer, a disciple of Miles Davis, is remembered for
his work with Gerry Mulligan, with whom he made movie apprearances in
"I Want to Live" and "The Subterraneans•"
The Jazztet has recorded extensively.
