YEARBOOK COMMITTEEH 486 HIS MAJESTY KING ABDULLAH II “Dear Chancellor Merkel, I can say that I am very satisfied with our cooperation on a bilateral level. Above all, with such successful projects as the German Jordanian University. This is certainly one of the most successful projects I’ve seen in my country in the last ten years. We hope that we can move forward on this basis even further.”

The President

PRESIDENT OF THE GERMAN JORDANIAN UNIVERSITY Prof. Manar Fayyad 11 | 12 The President | Message

Dear Graduating Students,

Graduations mark the end of one journey and the beginning of another... some may even consider them as a rite of passage through the journey that is life.

New beginnings are full of endless possibilities and responsibilities. They give us a chance to define ourselves, and explore our boundaries. Some of our students may be moving on to their first jobs, while others want to undertake higher level studies, or maybe even travel the world. But they all share one mission: being the ambassadors of Jordan and the German Jordanian University. They not only represent their university, but also their heritage, their traditions and everything that their country holds dear. I believe that the most important value that our University promotes is the aim for excellence, and I truly 13 | 14

ACTING ASSISTANT TO THE DIRECTOR | Ibrahim Alrawajfeh Every year, floods in Petra pose a dire threat to the residents, guests and monuments of Petra. Flash floods occur with little warning, and the narrow channel formed by the Siq and the courtyard of the Treasury become inundated with water. Obviously, this is of great concern to the Petra Development and Tourism Regional Authority.

With funding from the US Ambassadors Fund, CSNACH is the process of tackling this issue by reviving the Nabatean flood control system. Using modern documentation, monitoring and modelling tools to assess the system and ancient flood control measures to tame the torrents and harvest the flood water for useful purposes.
