  • Indian Entertainment and Media Outlook 2010 2 Indian Entertainment and Media Outlook 2010 Message
Indian entertainment and media outlook 2010 2 Indian entertainment and media outlook 2010 Message To our clients and friends both in and beyond the entertainment and media industry : Welcome to the 2010 edition of PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Indian Entertainment and Media (E&M) Outlook, covering the forecast period of 2010–2014. Our forecasts and analysis for this edition focus on eight major E&M industry segments and one emerging segment. Each segment details out the key trends observed and challenges faced apart from providing the prospects for the segment. In the industry overview section, we have highlighted the key theme observed during 2009 and what we perceive as future trends in the coming years. We have a chapter on the tax and regulatory impact on the various E&M segments and for the very first time we have included a chapter on how technology can be leveraged in the E&M industry. In 2009, the economy severely impacted the world, translating into steep declines in advertisement as well as consumer spending. India though impacted, did manage to show growth with increased consumer spending as well as innovative action on the part of the industry. Against this backdrop, across the world, except certain markets, speed of digital spending increased due to changing consumer behavior as well as technology available to deliver the same. In India, while the spend on digital media is likely to grow, it is unlikely that it will dominate in the forecast period. This is largely due to the relative unavailability as well as unaffordability of the broadband and mobile infrastructure.

Department of History, Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. ABSTRACT : The peasants of Odisha came within the ambit of colonial capitalistic economic system after British conquered Odisha in 1803.Up to the end of the Civil Dis-obedience movement, the peasants in Odisha yet remained backward, retrogressive, unorganised and feudal in nature . Out of different circumstances socialism started to germinate in and later on dominated the post-Civil Disobedience movement phase Odisha. The newly indoctrinated socialist leaders took up peasants‟ cause and organised them against colonial hegemonic rule in different issues by organising a special peasants‟ organization in pan-Odishan basis. So, this article tries to locate the efforts of the socialist leaders vis-a-vis the peasants through Utkal Provincial Krushak Sangha. It also endeavours to assess the overall activities of that organisation, its tactics in mobilizing peasants in colonial Odisha from 1935 to 1938.Besides, this article also tries to present how the Utkal Provincial Krushaka Sangha was formed and how it worked as a platform for the peasants of odisha in co-ordinating, mobilising, educating and organising the agrarian community in 1930s and 1940s.. KEYWORDS : Agrarian, Krushaka , Movement, Rebellion , Sangha, , Socialist ,Utkal I. INTRODUCTION Peasants (English term for the Odia word Krushak), being a segment in the complex capitalistic farming system, are destined to fulfill its legitimate rights, according to Karl Marx, through prolonged ‗class struggle‘.

Published Books The Final Hour An Anthology of Selected Assamese Short Stories Deepika Phukan ISBN : 978-81-924562-4-9 Pages : 232 Price : ` 250 Year of pub. : 2012 About the Book The Final Hour is a collection of Assamese short stories translated into English. Set in the backdrop of the plains of Assam where the mighty Brahmaputra flows, the river is witness to the love, joy, success and ecstasy of the Assamese people. It is also witness to the religious frenzy, superstitions, betrayals, hate and violence that mark the dark hours of the night. Love and loyalty are hidden in the most unexpected quarters. Young Arjun fondly sings a lullaby to put a child to sleep… hatipoti, makipur, mezenga, bahut dur…! And in the end, deeply hurt to the core, he realizes that in this wide world, no one was truly your very own. Through the years, the Assamese have been known for their hospitality and kindness. Sayeed Ali, a Muslim boy, trapped in the middle of a communal riot, remembers the kindness of an aging Hindu couple. “Like a hen hiding her chicks from the claws of the kite, they protected me under the fold of their wings…” he says. And the stories go on until Abhijit’s final hour and beyond. These stories embrace a deep understanding of human behaviour as depicted by the authors. About the Translator Born in Calcutta, Dr. Deepika Phukan spent her childhood years in Madras and Jorhat and did her higher education from Guwahati. Her translated works include Moments, an anthology of short stories published by Cambridge India, Felanee, published by Zubaan, and Makam which is on the anvil with Zubaan for publication.
