Among them, Xanthomonas fragariae is a quarantine bacterial pathogen threatening strawberry productions by causing angular leaf spots. Using whole transcriptome sequencing, the gene expression of both plant and bacteria in planta was analyzed at two time points, 12 and 29 days post inoculation, in order to compare the pathogen and host response between the stages of early visible and of well-developed symptoms. Among 28,588 known genes in strawberry and 4046 known genes in X. fragariae expressed at both time points, a total of 361 plant and 144 bacterial genes were significantly differentially expressed, respectively. The identified higher expressed genes in the plants were pathogen-associated molecular pattern receptors and pathogenesis-related thaumatin encoding genes, whereas the more expressed early genes were related to chloroplast metabolism as well as photosynthesis related coding genes. -

The most popular representatives of this species are the strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa Duch.) and wild strawberry (Fragaria vesca L.), whose taste and health benefits are appreciated by a huge number of consumers. The cultivation of Fragaria plants is widespread around the world, with particular emphasis on the temperate climate zone. Increasingly occurring weather anomalies, including drought phenomena, cause immense losses in crop cultivation. The Fragaria plant species are very sensitive to drought, due to the shallow root system, large leaf area and the high water content of the fruit. There have been many studies on the influence of water deficit on the morphological, biochemical and physiological features of strawberries and wild strawberries. There is a lack of research summarizing the current state of knowledge regarding of specific species response to water stress. The aim of this study was to combine and compare data from many research carried out and indicate the direction of future research aimed at improving the resistance of Fragaria plants species to stress related to drought. -

Planbeskrivelse Detaljregulering for SETESDALSVEIEN 90 m. fl. Plan nr 1549 09.09.2020 Bakgrunn EGG arkitektur AS har på vegne av Gumpen Bileiendom AS utarbeidet forslag til detaljreguleringsplan for Setesdalsveien 90 m. fl. i Kristiansand kommune. Detaljreguleringen har følgende hovedmål; • Sikre forutsigbarhet for mulige utvidelser av eksisterende næringsdrift. • Sikre forutsigbarhet og godt naboskap til boligområdet Klappane. • Vurdere trafikksituasjon og logistikk på næringsområdet, justering av avkjørselsvei fra Setesdalsveien og mulig stengning for gjennomkjøring gjennom Klappane. • Vurdere etablering av ladestasjoner for elektrisk drevne biler. Beskrivelse av dagens situasjon i planområdet Reguleringsområde – varsel om oppstart av reguleringsarbeider Planområdet ligger sentralt på Grim mellom Setesdalsveien og jernbanespor og består av etablert næringsområde Gumpens Auto Vest AS i nordvest og eksisterende småhusbebyggelse i sydøst. Med unntak av private hager rundt boligbebyggelsen og kommunalt lekeareal eksisterer det ingen større, sammenhengende vegetasjon i området. Grimsåsen og Elisenhøy syd for planområdet skygger noe for kveldssol vinterstid. Området har gode lys- og solforhold for øvrig. Setesdalsveien 90 m. fl. – planbeskrivelse. Sist revidert 09.09.2020 Side 1 av 15 Planområdet er bebygd med næringsbebyggelse og boligbebyggelse. Det er ikke registret kulturminner innenfor planområdet. Eksisterende bebyggelse består av næringsbebyggelse i 1 til 2 etasjer og parkeringsarealer. Øst for avkjørsel er det boligbebyggelse i inntil 2 etasjer og private hager. Næringsarealet er eiet av Gumpens Bileiendom AS og boligeiendommene er i hovedsak privat eiet. Setesdalsveien 86 er eiet av Gumpens Bileiendom AS, og har opsjon på kjøp av Klappane 13. Atkomstveien Klappane er kommunalt eiet. Planområdet sogner til Solholmen barneskole og Grim ungdomsskole som begge ligger med ca. 10 minutters gåavstand fra planområdet. -

Pineberry: a Reintroduced Strawberry
Missouri February 2015 Volume 21, Number 2 Pineberry: A Reintroduced Strawberry White-fruited strawberries of Fragaria chiloensis (Chilean strawberry) have been traced back to Chile where the native peoples, the Picunche and the Mapuche, cultivated them more than 1000 years ago. Although uncommon, native white strawberries can still be found in southern Chile today. Although early explorers documented these strawberries, they were not introduced into Europe until 1712 when Lt. Colonel Amedee Frézier brought F. chiloensis plants to France. Thereafter, the Chilean strawberry was naturally pollinated by Fragaria virginiana (red-fruited type known as scarlets). More recently, Hans De Jongh, a grower in Etten-Leur, the Netherlands obtained a diseased pineberry plant from a strawberry plant collector in France, who believed it was from the original cross from the 18th century. After selecting plants over a six year period, De Johgh released his pineberry Photo credit: Chad Finn cultivar in 2009. For those who like novelty plants, pineberry (Fragaria chiloensis Pineberries should not be confused with the albino fruit x virginiana) is a hybrid strawberry that produces small, white, disorder of commonly-grown red-fruited strawberries. In highly aromatic fruit with red achenes (seeds) (Figure 1). While California, warm weather followed by cloudy and foggy skies it is marketed as a berry with pineapple-like flavpineberryor, can cause albino fruit with poor flavor. Development and Use of Molecular Tools in Fragaria
AN ABSTRACT OF THE DISSERTATION OF Wambui Njuguna for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Horticulture presented on March 1, 2010. Title: Development and Use of Molecular Tools in Fragaria Abstract approved: Nahla V. Bassil This dissertation describes the application and development of molecular tools that have great potential for use in studying variation in strawberry germplasm. The first study evaluated 91 microsatellite (simple sequence repeat, SSR) markers for transferability in 22 Fragaria species and their utility in fingerprinting octoploid strawberries. Out of the transferable markers, a reduced set of four SSRs was developed based on polymorphism, multiplexing ability, reproducibility and ease of scoring. Unique SSR fingerprints were obtained for over 175 Fragaria samples representing 22 Fragaria species used in the study. Testing of two molecular markers linked to the red stele and anthracnose resistances identified potential sources of resistance in previously untested genotypes. Further characterization of these accessions is warranted to validate resistance and usefulness in breeding. In the second study, 20 SSRs polymorphic in wild Asian diploids, F. iinumae and F. nipponica, from Hokkaido, Japan were selected for genetic analysis of 137 accessions from 22 locations. Principal coordinate analysis followed by non-parametric modal clustering grouped accessions into two groups representing the two species. Further clustering within the groups resulted in 10 groups (7-F. iinumae, 3-F. nipponica) that suggest lineages representative of the diversity in Hokkaido, Japan. The third study tested plant DNA barcodes, the nuclear ribosomal Internal Transcribed and the chloroplast PsbA-trnH spacers, for Fragaria species identification. The ‘barcoding gap’, between within species and between species variation, was absent and prevented identification of Fragaria species. -
