International Visitors to Mexico (Banxico)

• According to Banco de México, the number of international tourists traveling to Mexico surpassed 2.6 million in January 2015, a new record high for any January month.

• The incoming of foreign currency from international visitors to Mexico in January 2015 also was a high record, totaling 1,584 million dollars.

• During January 2015 the tourism balance was positive, totaling 724 million dollars; number higher than the record achieved in any January period in a year.

• International visitors increased 10.5% with respect to January 2014, reaching 7.3 million of visitors.

Domestic tourism Hotel Activity

• The percentage of hotel occupation in a group of 70 resorts was 2.40 percentage points higher in comparison to their occupation in January 2014, reaching 56.52%.

• The arrival of domestic tourists to hotel rooms in these 70 resorts during January 2015 was more than 3.8 million people, being 8.9% higher than the number reached in 2014 during the same month.

1 Air Transportation

• The arrival of passengers by plane increased 7.1% during January 2015 in comparison to the arrivals during January 2014, reaching 4.4 million of air plane passengers.

• The arrival of passengers on domestic flights exceeded 2.7 million people; this is an increase of 6.5% in comparison to January 2014. Also, the number of domestic flights increased 6.7%.

• 1.7 million of passengers were recorded on international flights, which is an increase of 8.0% in comparison to January 2014. This result was accompanied by a higher number of international flights seen in the same month (9.6%).

• As for the number of people arriving by plane to Mexico by nationality, it was recorded in January 2015 that: Americans were the major group representing 48.8% of the total of air arrivals followed by Canadians with 21.5%; as for people arriving from Latin America and the Caribbean, Brazilians stand out for having reached 2.9% increase of all arrivals.

Maritime Transportation

• The ports that received the highest number of cruise passengers during January 2015 were the following: Cozumel (390,458), Majahual (85,409) and Ensenada (64,821); Majahual highlighted having an increase of 80.5% in comparison to January 2014. Thus, the total of arrivals increased 22.3% during the same month.

The influx of foreign currency from the arrival of international visitors had an increase of 14% during January 2015 in comparison to the same month of the previous year. Foreign currency from international tourists increased 17% during the same period, exceeding 1,413 million dollars.

In the first month of 2015, notes the American air-coming visitors, representing 48.8% of all international passengers arriving by air. From the Latin America and the Caribbean region, the country with the highest number of arrivals into Mexico was Brazil, with 38,551 visitors, increasing 22.8%.

In January 2015, the airports that received the most international passengers were: Cancun (631,113), México City (525,917), Puerto Vallarta (153,668), Guadalajara (129,192) and Los Cabos (100,997); which represented 87.2% of all passengers.

12 Maritime Transportation Passengers of Tourism Cruises

During January 2015, the number of cruise passengers increased 121,924; this is an increase of 22.3% in comparison to the same month of the previous year, reaching 668,661 passengers.

13 Main Ports

In January 2015, the ports that received the most cruise passengers were the following: Cozumel, Majahual and Ensenada; representing 80.8% of all the arrivals in comparison to the same month of 2014. On the other hand, according to Banco de Mexico, the income of foreign currency from cruise visitors contributed with 3% of all the foreign currency during January 2015.
