This collaborative research project, Community Mirror, was carried out to understand the ways in which online data-gathering techniques compared to door-to- door research in understanding how a local community works. The study concludes that digital methodologies do offer a promising approach to mapping the ‘below the radar’ social economy assets. There was a significant amount of overlap between the community assets mapped by the two different research approaches, with 31% of the community assets surfaced in the offline research also discovered by the LocalNets online app. Acknowledgements: This paper was prepared by Gaia Marcus to report on work undertaken while at the RSA.   • London's Longest Running Blues Festival Is
    PRESS RELEASE: LONDON’S LONGEST RUNNING BLUES FESTIVAL IS BACK! AND BIGGER THAN EVER! 22-23 July 2017 - 30 years old this year! Founded in 1987, the 30th birthday of the Ealing Blues Festival will take place in Walpole Park, Ealing, on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd July, with music performances between 12.00pm – 10.30pm across three stages. Proudly presented in the London Borough which boasts the location of Ealing Club, meeting place of The Rolling Stones and where Alexis Korner & Cyril Davies started the country’s first dedicated electric Blues Club in 1962, thus giving birth to British Rock Music. The 2017 headline acts are Mungo Jerry and The Blockheads, alongside an array of the best up and coming and established acts in British Blues. The Ealing Blues Festival prides itself on its affordability, with the admission price pegged below £10 per day, making it possibly the ‘best value’ event of its kind. This contributes to the festival being highly family-friendly, with the advantages and facilities that a well- managed park has to offer. The main stage is within an open sided circus tent providing shade when it’s hot and wet weather cover when it’s not. The Festival is served by a wide selection of food stalls and large bar area. Evidence is obtained from reports, visits, special meetings and expert witnesses enabling the Panels to take a balanced view and to reach considered judgements before making recommendations to cabinet and other bodies. Visits enable members to see conditions ‘on the ground’. Visits this year have included: • Ambulance Service- trips in a “Fast Response” car • BIOGEN in Bedfordshire- Ealing’s Anaerobic Digestion Plant • Canoeing at Brentford Boating Arch • CCTV Control Room • Central Printing and Post room facilities at Greenford Business Centre • Ealing Hospital –several key areas • Ealing “Summer Uni” and other Summer Activities • Harrow Council to see a scrutiny Panel in Action (check name) • John Connolly Wing, West London Mental Health Trust – four wards • Showcase Streets – accompanied visit • Stanhope Park Allotment site Scrutiny members also make arrangements to hear the views of local people, including service users and providers. Panel members can go out to meet with people and/or can invite interested people to come and contribute at a panel meeting.
