Music can help people in so many ways like when you are sad you can listen to happy music, if you can't sleep you can turn on calming music that doesn't have any lyrics, or you can put on sad music if you just want to let out a cry. Music can also motivate you or inspire you to do something. Music helps me by calming me down when I'm stressed, makes me happy when I am sad or angry, or sometimes I just listen to sad music because I just feel like it. Music also helps me fall asleep faster. When I listen to music I feel like I'm in a whole different world and in that world all my worries, problems and stress goes away and I feel happy. Music is important to me because a lot of songs have really deep meanings to them. Music inspires me to make my own music or learn to play the piano or guitar. -

I was overwhelmed with the high quality of writing I saw throughout all of the submissions I received, which is a testament to the skill and creativity of Sigma Tau Delta Members. I would like to use this space to thank all those who submitted. I would also like to thank all of those who volunteered to be editors this year. I would like to especially thank my Co-Editor-in-Chief Kaila Cummings for all that she has done for this journal over the year. This journal has shown to me that the Eastern Region of Sigma Tau Delta is a well of creativity. PART ONE Arroyo Blanco The Tortilla Curtain 1 AFTERWARD, HE TRIED TO REDUCE IT TO ABSTRACT terms, an accident in a world of accidents, the collision of opposing forces--the bumper of his car and the frail scrambling hunched-over form of a dark little man with a wild look in his eye--but he wasn't very successful. This wasn't a statistic in an actuarial table tucked away in a drawer somewhere, this wasn't random and impersonal. It had happened to him, Delaney Mossbacher, of 32 Piñon Drive, Arroyo Blanco Estates, a liberal humanist with an unblemished driving record and a freshly waxed Japanese car with personalized plates, and it shook him to the core. Everywhere he turned he saw those red-flecked eyes, the rictus of the mouth, the rotten teeth and incongruous shock of gray in the heavy black brush of the mustache--they infested his dreams, cut through his waking hours like a window on another reality. He saw his victim in a book of stamps at the post office, reflected in the blameless glass panels of the gently closing twin doors at Jordan's elementary school, staring up at him from his omelette aux fines herbes at Emilio's in the shank of the evening.
