Da Shanti Stupa Day 1-Arrive at Leh - The white desert (11,500 ft/3524 m) –( L + D) Get transferred to your hotel with traditional Khataks welcome, Chai and Coffee. While you get accustomed to the altitude, take the day to watch the mountains and just relax with lunch at the hotel. In the evening, visit the historic Shanti Stupa, the magnificent Leh Palace and the colorful Leh Bazaar to buy those beautiful traditional earrings and dresses. Dinner and stay at the hotel. Confluence of Indus-Zanskar River Day 2- Day Excursion to the Valley of History - Sham Valley- (B+ L + D) Have an early breakfast to start the day on a full stomach. Take your first halt & visit Gurudwara Patthar Sahib thanVisit Sangam - the confluence of two rivers and watch in wonder as the water joins together to form two different colours. After that defy gravity at Magnetic Hill. Now you head to visit the oldest monastery in Ladakh - Alchi Monastery, built in 958-1055 on the banks of Indus. With a guided tour through the monastery, emerge yourself in the peaceful vibes surrounding the old architecture. Lunch at Zimskhang Restaurant. Visit Hall of Fame before heading to Stok village for a lovely home cooked meal with a Ladakhi family& you may also get a chance to learn how to make famous Butter Tea, on the way we also Visit Spituk Monastery. End the long day at the hotel. Khardong La Pass Day 3-From the cold desert to the valley at the end – Nubra (B+ L + D) Another early breakfast to keep you awake on the beautiful drive of Approx.135 KM from Leh to Nubra Valley. Leave at 8 am and drive to Khardung La pass (18380 ft), the highest motorable pass in the world. Stop to click those selfies as you stand higher than you ever have and look down at the frozen world below. Reach Diskit (headquarter of Nubra valley) by noon and check in at the hotel/camp and have Hot lunch. Walk around the village or just relax. Evening visit Diskit Monastery, and Sand dunes in Hunder Village 7km from Diskit and enjoy a ride of Double Humped bacterian Camels (at your expense). Delicious dinner and comfortable stay at the camp. Double Humped Baterian camel ride Day 4- Turtuk Village with the Raja(B+ L + D) Wake up to a beautiful morning and have breakfast at the camp before heading to Turtuk Village, the last border village won by India in 1971. Walk around, work on those photography skills and find nice spots to sit at. Visit the Raja’s family to learn about Gilgit, Skardo and India Pakistan War and brush up on the ancient history of India. Lunch is planned by the Shyok river(which flows from India to Pakistan) & is accompanied with a lovely stroll on it’s banks. Head back to Hunder sand dunes and ride on a camel as it walks up and down on the dunes. Drink Chai by a stream in the middle of the sand dunes. Spend the night at your beautiful camp Day 5- From the valley en route to shimmering lakes (B + D) Enjoy breakfast at the retreat and check out. Travel through time at Diskit Monastery before heading to the most awaited, the timeless beauty of Pangong lake. The drive is long (6-7 hrs) but the wait is worth it. Stop for lunch and tea en route before arriving at Pangong lake (14270 ft). The Lake is situated at the height of 4350 meters (14270 ft) in the Chang thang region of Leh district. The lake is hardly six to seven kilometer at its widest point and over 130km long, it is bisected by the international border between India and China. Dinner with a bonfire and some tunes to dance to at your comfortable camp where you can spend the night in your cozy tents. Pangong Lake Pangong Lake Day 6- Back to the desert via Chang La Pass(B+D) Check out after breakfast to head to the film shooting point. Famous for the shots in 3 idiots, it is frequented by many tourists and has to be a part of that wonderful photo op you have been developing thus far. Ride a scooter like Kareena, go yak riding or just sit down for some coffee. Head back to Leh, crossing Chang La Pass (17860 ft), the third highest motorable pass in the world. Have mouth watering lunch at Karu Road Junction before driving across the Indus to visit the 17th Century Hemis Monastery. Explore this largest and wealthiest monastery before saying goodbyes and heading back to Leh. Take the evening off to go exploring on your own. Try thesumptuous cuisine at the local market before heading back for a good nights sleep at your hotel Chang La Pass Day 7- Down the river you GO (B+ L + D) E Have a light breakfast before starting the great day of adventure. Try your hand at white water rafting at Sangam for a stretch of nearly 16 km on the Zanskar river. Eat Lunch at Nimoo, near Sangam.     The Spituk Monastery of Ladakh by traveldesk The Spituk Monastery of Ladakh is situated at a distance of approximately 8 km from the town of Leh. Towering over a conical, the 3-chapel monastery dates back to the 11th century, when it was founded century by Od-de, the elder brother of Lha Lama Changchub Od. He was the one to introduce a monastic community here. When a translator, Rinchen Zangpo, came to this place, he said that an exemplary religious community would develop there. This statement led to the naming of the monastery as Spituk, meaning Exemplary. During that time, Spituk Gompa belonged to the Kadampa School. With the progress of time, it came under Dharmaraja Takspa Bum- Lde Lama Lhawang Lotus. After restoring the monastery, he introduced the stainless order of Tsongkhapa there. Till date, the Spitok Monastery of Leh Ladakh is following this order only. Inside the monastery, the main statue is that of Lord Buddha. Then, there is also a sacred image of Amitayus. The image, about a finger high in length, was presented by Tsongkhapa to Takspa Bum-Lde. It also contains five Thankas and a collection of ancient masks, antique arms, along with a splendid image of Mahakaal. One of the major attractions of the Spituk Monastery is the Gustor Festival. An annual event, the festival takes place from the 27th to 29th day of the 11th Tibetan month. During this festival, the sacred dance is also held. The other monasteries of Stok, Sankar and Saboo in Ladakh, are branches of the Spituk Monastery only.

Our ffth visit to the mountains of Ladakh in search of Snow Leopards was another success and resulted in two sightings, involving maybe two different cats, however, the second of these was certainly our most prolonged close range encounter so far involving a leopard at its Blue Sheep kill over the course of three days! Many thousands of images later we felt we could hardly better it so we did not spend quite as much time scanning as usual and looked for other animals instead. This resulted in a longer bird and mammal list than last time when we spend many more hours at vantage points. Other mammalian highlights included: two sightings of Grey (or Tibetan) Wolf; Siberian Ibex; Urial, Ladakh’s endemic ‘red sheep’; any amount of Blue Sheep (or Bharal), the Snow Leopard’s favourite prey, as well as other hardy alpine inhabitants such as Woolly Hare, Mountain Weasel and (Tibetan) Red Fox. The Tibetan Plateau Extension added Argali (the world’s largest sheep) and Kiang (Tibetan Wild Ass). Billed as a joint Birdquest/Wild Images tour, our birders were happy with a good selection of old favourite Himalayan specialities including: Himalayan Snowcock, Lammergeier, Himalayan Griffon Vulture, Golden Ea- gle, Ibisbill, Solitary Snipe (three plus another while acclimatizing pre-tour), Hill and Snow Pigeons, Eurasian Eagle Owl, Red-billed and Alpine Choughs, White-browed Tit-Warbler (six), Wallcreeper, Güldenstädt’s Red- start, Brown Dipper, Robin and Brown Accentors, Brandt’s Mountain Finch, Streaked and Great Rosefnches, Twite and Red-fronted Serin on the main tour.
