In compliance to Decision 14.65 on Asian Big Cats MANAGEMENT AND CONSERVATION OF TIGER IN MALAYSIA. 1. Legal status In Peninsular Malaysia, tiger (Panthera tigris) is listed as totally protected species under the Protection of Wild Life Act 1972. Under the Wild Life Protection Ordinance 1998 (State of Sarawak), tiger is listed under Protected animals category whereas Sabah Wildlife Conservation Enactment 1997 accorded totally protected status to tiger. For further clarification, tiger is not found in Sabah and Sarawak. In Peninsular Malaysia, trade in tiger is only allowed for non commercial purposes such as research, captive breeding programme and exchange between zoological parks. For these activities, permission in term of Special Permit from the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of Malaysia is required.

    How Pakatan can lead nation to non-racial politics MalaysiaKini.com June 28, 2012 By Boo Cheng Hau COMMENT BN may wish to keep on denying this but we can't escape the fact that it is the BN's divisive politics that has made our society into one so racially charged. In the Umno-led coalition government of 13 race-based parties, ‘Malay nationalism' and dominance is touted as the only alternative to national unity. But is it really so? Can't we have another alternative? Under the purview of Umno's Malay nationalism, other races in the country are forced to form political parties along racial lines. If the dominant majority race insists on its brand of nationalism, wouldn't it be a natural development for other minority races to claim their each and separate nationalisms as well? Can our national unity be actually based upon racial politics along ‘separate nationalisms' or ‘political tribalism' which is how the late Yale University professor Leonard Thompson termed it in describing South Africa's apartheid? Do we want a single nation? Or do we want many divisive nations within our country? There can be no genuine national unity if the powers-that-be keep proclaiming nationalism based on the dominant race ideology to the exclusion of all else. British colonialists have long left the country but how far have we moved forward in terms of genuine national unity? Some senior Umno politicians and their ideologues have blamed poor national unity on the various streams of education while they are themselves unable to dissolve their own race-based political parties to be replaced by a pan-Malaysian party.

    DAP moves to ease fears over Islamic state Malaysiakini.com January 21, 2011 Following attempts by Umno and MCA to intimidate Chinese voters in Tenang with PAS' Islamic state agenda, DAP is moving to allay such fears, stressing that PAS is now a party that fights for all ethnic groups. "MCA is sleeping, thinking that it is still 1999 when people were afraid of an Islamic state. In fact, PAS is now talking about a welfare state and its battles for the benefit of all races," Johor DAP chief Dr Boo Cheng Hau said at a DAP dinner in Labis last night. "Umno is the one still talking racial politics. We don't call our home minister Hishammuddin (Hussein), we call him Kerismuddin because he always brandishes the keris." Besides Boo, other DAP leaders expressed their support for PAS at the RM50 a head fund-raising dinner attended by some 800 passionate Chinese supporters, where DAP also raised another RM4,555 in on-the-spot donations. DAP Rasah MP Anthony Loke rebutted MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek's statement earlier that Chinese who voted for PAS would be sending the Malay community the message that they were willing to accept the country as an Islamic state. "We will vote for PAS on Jan 30 for a fair and corruption-free government, not for an Islamic state. We vote to change the government, not merely for PAS, nor an Islamic state," Loke (right) said. The party youth chief then turned aggressive: "If we vote for Umno, it means that we accept Umno's continued oppression of us and allow the party to continue its extreme racial statements and behaviour." Islamic state is not Pakatan common policy His statement was echoed by DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang, who pointed out that Penang, Selangor and Perak, which are ruled by Pakatan Rakyat, have not turned into Islamic states.

He is a firm believer of freedom of expression and racial equality. His plays become his didactic tool to express his dismay and frustration towards the folly and malfunctions in the society. He believes that everybody needs to rise and eliminate their fear from speaking their minds regardless of race, status and gender. In all four of his plays, Kee has featured and centralised his female characters by empowering them with voice and agency. Kee gives fair treatment to his women by painting them as strong, liberated, determined and fearless beings. Armed with the literary tools of feminist dialogics which is derived from Bakhtin’s theory of dialogism and strategies of historical re-visioning, this study investigates and explores Kee’s representations of his female characters and the various ways that he has liberated them from being passive and silent beings as they contest the norms, values and even traditions.

    A World without Thieves: Film Magic and Utopian Fantasies Rujie Wang, College of Wooster Should we get serious about A World without Thieves (tian xia wu zei), with two highly skilled pickpockets, Wang Bo (played by Liu Dehua) and Wang Li (Liu Ruoying), risking their lives to protect both the innocence and the hard-earned money of an orphan and idiot who does not believe there are thieves in the world? The answer is yes, not because this film is a success in the popular entertainment industry but in spite of it. To Feng Xiaogang’s credit, the film allows the viewer to feel the pulse of contemporary Chinese cultural life and to express a deep anxiety about modernization. In other words, this production by Feng Xiaogang to ring in the year of the roster merits our critical attention because of its function as art to compensate for the harsh reality of a capitalist market economy driven by money, profit, greed, and individual entrepreneurial spirit, things of little value in the old ethical and religious traditions. The title is almost sinisterly ironic, considering the national problem of corruption and crime that often threatens to derail economic reform in China, although it may ring true for those optimists clinging tenaciously to the old moral ideals, from Confucians to communists, who have always cherished the utopia of a world without thieves. Even during the communist revolutions that redistributed wealth and property by violence and coercion, that utopian fantasy was never out of favor or discouraged; during the Cultural Revolution, people invented and bought whole-heartedly into the myth of Lei Feng (directed by Dong Yaoqi, 1963), a selfless PLA soldier and a paragon of socialist virtues, who wears socks with holes but manages to donate all his savings to the flood victims in a people’s commune.
