    CARTA GEOLOGICA D’ITALIA 1:50.000 - CATALOGO DELLE FORMAZIONI 331 3. - SICILIA CARTA GEOLOGICA D’ITALIA 1:50.000 - CATALOGO DELLE FORMAZIONI 345 CALCARE DI BASE RANGO ETÀ REGIONE Miocene Superiore Membro (Messiniano evaporitico) Sicilia FOGLIO AL 100.000 FOGLIO AL 50.000 SIGLA 611, 636 GTL1 Scheda a cura di Luca Delfrati Il nome Calcare di Base, proposto da OGNIBEN nel 1957 [8] e poi da SELLI nel 1960 [11] per la porzione basale della successione evaporitica siciliana, è stato largamente utilizzato in letteratura e nella cartografia ufficiale. In proposito si ricorda che l’unità è stata descritta nelle Note Illustrative dei fogli della Carta Geologica d’Italia in scala 1:50.000 611 [12] e 636 [3]. Si segnala altresì che essa fu indicata da MOTTURA [7] come “calcare siliceo” e da BALDACCI [1] come “calcare concrezionato”. Il Calcare di Base è costituito da calcari biancastri o grigiastri in strati e banchi massicci dello spessore da 1 a 15 m, caratterizzati dalla locale presenza di pseudomorfi di alite [4], [8], [9]; il numero totale dei banchi calcarei varia da un minimo di 6 a un massimo di 13; la geometria degli strati è grossolanamente lenticolare, a base irregolare, localmente erosiva. I banchi principali sono alternati a livelli, spessi da 30 a 150 cm costituiti da marne calcaree, calcari laminati, dolomie, o, più raramente, da gessi. Talvolta il passaggio dai banchi calcarei alle intercalazioni marnose si realizza tramite l’interposizione di ritmiti calcaree laminate; sono stati osservati anche alcuni paleosuoli a caliche [9]. In altre situazioni i banconi calcarei presentano un aspetto brecciato; la natura di questa tessitura può essere imputata a collasso da dissoluzione di minerali o di interstrati evaporitici e/o a processi meccanici di tipo gravitativo.

Introduction The role of prescriptivism in inhibiting language change and in imposing a reduction in variation on the basis of linguistic norms has long been acknowledged. The situation is somewhat different, however, for lower-prestige varieties and minority languages: the lack of a standard, and hence of prescriptive rules, coupled with the influence of the high-prestige language spoken in the same territory, provide favourable conditions and sometimes even triggers for language variation and change. This paper is concerned with the contemporary situation of Sicilian, where the traditional classification of its dialects comes up against cross-dialectal variation and the pace of language change. Despite constituting a distinct language of Italy, Sicilian has no official status and consequently no standard grammar or orthography. A significant number of differences, especially at the phonological level, allow the identification of several Sicilian dialects within the island: indeed, these differences have been used as the major criteria for the classification of the Sicilian dialects. In addition to the lack of a standard grammar and of prescriptive norms, Sicilian is in constant contact with Italian in a situation of diglossia: the two languages are used in different contexts and under different conditions by the same community (see Berruto 1987, Grassi 1993, Loporcaro 2009).

The tamarisks flora of Sicily is here up dated with the addition of two species new for Italy (Tamarix rosea and T. chinensis) and three new records for the island (T. africana var. flumi- nensis, T. tetragyna and T. hampeana). Key words: Tamarisks, Taxonomy, Mediterranean Area. Introduction Tamarix L. is a critical genus of the Italian vascular flora and it is characterized by a considerable morphological and ecological resemblance of taxa, infraspecific variabili- ty and teratology of floral elements. The number of floral parts is sometimes constant but this parameter cannot be considered valid for any identification of specimens when it is not correlated with the position of flowers on the raceme, the reciprocal position of flo- ral parts, the variability in their numbers, etc. The difficulties in the identification of tamarisk species are sometimes caused by inaccurate descriptions and by problems in analytical keys. According to Willdenow (1816), Desvaux (1824), Ehrenberg (1872), Bunge (1852) and Ahrendt (1926), 200 specific and intraspecific taxa are included in the genus Tamarix. This number was reduced to 69 (54 species and 15 varieties) by Baum (1978). Baum (1968), Zangheri (1976) and Pignatti (1982) reported 5 taxa for Italy: Tamarix africana Poiret, T. canariensis Willd., T. gallica L., T. dalmatica Baum and T. parviflo- ra DC. Recently Conti et al. (2005) in the “Annotated Check-list of the Italian Vascular Flora” added 5 tamarisk species collected in Sardinia by De Martis et al.
