    LIZ MITCHELL OF BONEY M. BONEY M. was not only THE disco cult band of the 70's and 80's but remains a living legend of the entire disco era. Originally founded in Germany by writer and producer Frank Farian, BONEY M. was one of the disco-oriented pop acts which dominated the European charts throughout the late seventies and early eighties with a string of hits well remembered to this day. A dusty LP sheathed in a jacket crowded with three women and a man in tight silver suits with bell bottoms and huge Afro hair-dos. One made a concession at Christmas though, but then one always makes concessions at Christmas… the band‟s pop-disco version of the carol „Mary‟s Boy Child‟ played across stores and in our hearts. You never admitted you listened to Boney M but you did admit that they were an inevitable part of your growing-up years — when the afternoons were long, the music deep and the sound poured in through slatted windows. Boney M were the poster people for all those in search of an identity in the 1970s, although you really couldn‟t put a finger on who they were. Named after a half-Aboriginal detective in an Australian TV series and put together by German singer- songwriter Frank Farian, the band had the ragged-voiced Bobby Farrell from Aruba, model- turned-singer Maizie Williams from Montserrat, Jamaicans Marcia Barrett and Liz Mitchell. Between 1976 and 1982, Boney M ruled the airwaves across Asia, Europe and Latin America with their disco-glitter songs so iconically different from one another. And so, they traversed from the „Rivers of Babylon‟ to the heart of Tsarist Russia with „Rasputin‟, from the sectarian violence in „Belfast‟ to the core of a Hermann Hesse novel with „He Was A Steppenwolf‟.

He has always been kind to me (everytime I've sent him an email, he has answered it). When I have a question about Luv' or the Dutch music scene, I know I can ask him. He's a real music encyclopedia. His career is special. He's a professional singer and his artist name is Dennis Jones . Twenty years ago, he won a TV casting show on Veronica (a famous Dutch channel) and he scored four hits in the singles charts in the Netherlands ( Don't Wanna Give Up (peak position: #31 in 1988), Heart Of Gold (#32 in 1991), Ma Belle Amie (#36 in 2005) and African Baby (#62 in 2006). His discs have been recorded, produced and mixed by the " crême de la crême " of the studio musicians, top producers and sound engineers in the Netherlands. He has also made a lot of live performances and has worked as a background singer for famous Dutch stars ( André Hazes , Bonnie St.Claire ...). The members of the Ma Barker Gang, aka the Barker-Karpis Gang it quickly evolved into and became more commonly known as, were cold-blooded, thieving, kidnapping, cop-killing sons-of-bitches. They don’t deserve to be romanticized. They were self-serving, ruthless dirtbags - I know that! But…there is something darkly romantic about old time bank robbers. A criminal such as a rapist is an obvious fucking coward. Holding down someone usually physically weaker then themselves, physically and psychology violating someone they’ve drugged, or tricked, or are holding a weapon to, using them for their own sadistic, physical pleasure. The nature of that crime is inherently evil. Same for pedophilia. Same for most murders. Those crimes seem to me, and to most of us, as inhuman somehow, which explains our fascination with them. How could someone do that? Theft, however, while also not morally justified, is so much more relatable, because it’s so very human. We don’t all, thank God, want to rape. However, we ALL do want money! Even if you don’t consider yourself materialistic, or monetarily driven, you still have bills to pay. Or, if you don’t, then someone else is paying for your existence - and I hope you’re grateful for them being at least somewhat financially motivated. And, almost all of us have stolen something at some point in our lives! Maybe you haven’t taken anything from a store, but, have you bit torrented a movie? Ever used someone else’s username and password to watch something intended for paid subscribers only? Ever downloaded an album someone gave you on a thumb drive and listened to it over and over and then never paid for it? Well, welcome to the thief club! You took something, or you used something - you listened to or watched something - that someone else created with the intention of having it sold.
