Pourtant ces dernières années, il a réussi à se forger un statut de vrai compositeur. Le déclic se fait en 2002 quand il compose Quelqu'un m'a dit, le premier album de Carla Bruni. Deux ans plus tard, la chanteuse le remercie en lui composant plusieurs textes. Des chansons qui dévoileront une nouvelle facette de Louis Bertignac. La facette d'un chanteur tout en sensibilité. Il marque son grand retour en 2005 avec l'album Longtemps. De ses propres compositions aux reprises de Téléphone et de Led Zeppelin, les Who, Police ou encore Les Stones, c'est un univers très rock que Louis Bertignac crée quand il est sur scène. Babyshambles en a vu de toutes les couleurs. Un leader qui jongle entre la case désintox' et la case prison. Renvois de leur premier label. Formation aléatoire du groupe. Les membres n'ont eu de cesse d'intégrer puis de quitter le groupe jusqu'en 2004. Babyshambles est actuellement composé de Pete Doherty (chant et guitare), Mick Withnall (guitare), Drew McConnel (basse) et Adam Ficek (batterie). Le premier album, Down in Albion, est sorti en 2005. En octobre 2007, c'est au tour de Shotter's Nation de voir le jour. Un album très bien accueilli par la critique. Un opus qui pardonnerait presque les déboires médiatiques du poète-junkie Pete Doherty. Babyshambles c'est un mélange de tout... De musique alternative et de rock british, de paroles mélancoliques, de chansons qui vacillent entre la douceur et la douleur. Pete was still playing solo gigs, advertising them on his website a day or two before they took place. He’d already recorded ‘For Lovers’ and was desperate to record the B-side; it was a beautiful song and he was convinced it would be a hit. He’d also finished recording the debut Babyshambles single. But Pete and Carl still wanted to write together. They needed to collaborate and bond after the debacle of their trip to the Welsh valleys, and they had a second Libertines album to write. Yui Mok/European Pressphoto Agency Chaos before the storm: the singer and guitarist Pete Doherty performing with his band Babyshambles in London in January. By DOMINIC PATTEN VEN by the standards of the great rock-'n'-roll train wrecks, these have been rough times for Pete Doherty. Sure, the 25-year-old frontman of the band Babyshambles has had tremendous musical success. And sure, he has enjoyed the company - in parties and gossip columns - of the glamorous Kate Moss. But that was before he was arrested on Feb. 2 on charges of robbery and blackmail. After that he spent five very unglamorous days in the Pentonville Prison in London, suffering from a painful heroin withdrawal and wondering whether anyone could raise £150,000 (about $280,230) for his bail. No one could claim to be entirely surprised by his fall. After gaining some attention in his teens as a poet, Mr. Doherty formed the Libertines with Carl Barat. With their street-urchin image and dark thrashy tunes of urban squalor, the band was described as "Britpop meets Baudelaire," and the two songwriters were compared to Morrissey and Johnny Marr of the Smiths. Their first album, "Up the Bracket," debuted in the British Top 20 in late 2002, and soon went platinum. But in addition to his musical talent, Mr. Doherty demonstrated an effortless knack for getting himself in trouble. In June 2003 he entered the first of many stints in rehab, only to walk away days later.

Alexandra Kolesnik1 POPULAR CULTURE AND HISTORY: REPRESENTATIONS OF THE PAST IN BRITISH POPULAR MUSIC OF THE 2000S2 This paper investigates the basic mechanisms of representation of the past in British popular music in the early 2000s. Changes in the music industry associated with the emerging and wide dissemination of new media has affected the search for new musical decisions, reformatting attitudes to the past in general, and to the musical past in particular. In this regard, questions of historical representations in popular music and their relationship with cultural heritage are closely interrelated. This paper analyses the mechanisms and formats of ‘working’ with the past in British popular music of the 2000s using examples from the London rock band, the Libertines. The author draws conclusions about structure of historical representations in popular music and their typology.
