Ari lennox shea butter baby album do Continue Ari Lennox has built the wait for Shea Butter Baby for months with single releases, music videos, a tour ad of the same name, XXL cover with Dreamville, live performances showcasing her beautiful voice, and celebrity co-signs across the industry. She finally dropped her main debut album and I have to say, after the first audition, I hooked up. From top to bottom, it's nothing but quality vocals, great songwriting, amazing production, and clever parodies that dive deep into the mind of Ari Lennox. Lennox can be defined as a modern MUSICIAN NEO-Soul, and this album perpetuates this message. It's the type of album I feel that would survive in any decade, and it's amazing I feel that way after every audition. Take the modern production, and her angelic voice harmonizes the lyrics in such a way that it gives the atmosphere of the 70s to each song. Ari Lennox can also be described as a throwback to the 70s/80s with a classic belt of harmony on the microphone, but also a modern star of RBC with the ability to adapt her vocal appeal to modern production. While its sound and appeal are very comparable to Eric Badu, Sad, Floetry, Jill Scott, and a few other RBC legends, it stands out on its own as a modern version of the classic RCB Trail. One example is how each song's title references a different type of hair texture, in an attempt to demonstrate the aesthetics of black women. It demonstrates bravery by showing the world its true self and creativity to stand out! Add to her aesthetic as stylish, sassy, black, and proud, magic comes with my first listen. Now I'm on listen to number 45 and I still feel refreshed on how nice Ari's voice is. Her voice is like chirping birds in a beautiful park on a fresh spring day. It's amazing how the current album captures the essence of the 70s album, but adds a modern twist to it. Below I will describe my opinion on each song: a photo via Vibe Magazine Chicago Boy I was instantly drawn to the instruments playing a tie with a Erykah Badu type beat. Then add to Ari's signature neo shower flash and you got yourself an amazing song! It really reminded me of Erykah Badu (Window Seat in particular) for this song. The song is her singing about a female perspective on a one-night stand. BMO more uptempo beat mixed in very nicely with Lennox's vocals. This track is about her having a crush and dealing with anxiety about it. This gave me a Floetry/Erykah Badu feel. Very well! Broke Feat. JID One of my favorites from the first audition, the song entails a couple being broke not only financially, but also learning to trust each other because past relationships don't work. Eventually, however, they become more open and sexy towards each other. This is an example of a great Songs. JID adds in a great series of lyrical wordplay that reminded me of Kendrick. Definitely Definitely Listen. Until late cool, cool, cool! Beautiful jazz is combined with Lennox belt from an ode to sensual love making makes this a beautiful song. She reminded me of the male version of Donnie Hathaway with this song. Shea Butter Baby Feat. J.Cole With this song already been on Creed 2 and featured a music video, it's not my first to listen to, but I love this song nonetheless! Tell me a sleek track about assessing your lover's time and it's very well written. Definitely a song to smoke. New Flat This honestly can be my favorite track after my first audition, while the lyrics relate to her moving into her new apartment and her doing different things to enjoy it. It can also be seen as a double entendre, as you feel, get a fresh start after difficult times. The sketch where she was about to release her girls hints at her finally being free to express past troubles that have given her anxiety. It's a brilliant song. Facetime Fun fact, this was the first song Cole and Lennox worked when he signed it to Dreamville! Also, from Cole's signature amazing production, Lennox mixed in solo songs about being genuine in a relationship so easily! Pop velvet guitar plays in the background as Lennox smoothly sings about her falling in love with a man. I was she sing an ode to her female colleagues about not agreeing to a man who wouldn't treat you to write. She easily uses her voice to sing lyrics about self-esteem for women, and I'm Stan. Whipped cream again like Shea Butter Baby, this song has already been introduced, but again, like Shea Butter Baby, it's a great song. The static white noise she sings about in static is a double entendre for the joys and pain relationships bring. It's a great way to finish an album with a powerful message, jazz instrumental, and good singing. The final take of the review 10/10 Is Amazing! Give this album how to listen as soon as possible! I feel like I'll be giving Shea Butter Baby a few listens for a while. Pros: One of a kind of appeal Parody smart production matches Voice of Ari This article about the album by Ari Lennox. Ari Lennox's writing and recording spoke with Complex about the process of writing the album, saying it was just what's going on in my life right then and there. Sometimes it's just really blunt. She told XXL about the experience she had expressed on the album, saying, I sing about my first apartment, about sympathy broke, if your soul is beautiful, then who cares? I have this joint called Static (where) I talk about my anxiety in a metaphorical sense. Just a lot of sex, soul, romance and hip-hop. She started working on her debut album right after signing with Dreamville, and it took four years to complete. Ron Gilmore talked about the recording process and how the album evolved to its final form in an interview with Revolt, saying: There were different tracklists for sure. it's pretty much it. It was a long, tedious process to even get to 12 songs. There are still songs that are also good. It wasn't one of those situations where we thought the album used to be. No, we've been working pretty what we've been working on, and maybe a month before the release, we've handled what's going to happen on the album. I know the ones we did in 2015 - I was and Facetime - kept doing it through the cut lists. It will be a tracklist and it will be 20 songs. Then, he was cutting from there and cutting from there and cutting from there until we got to 12.
