Ari Lennox Shea Butter Baby Album Do Ari lennox shea butter baby album do Continue Ari Lennox has built the wait for Shea Butter Baby for months with single releases, music videos, a tour ad of the same name, XXL cover with Dreamville, live performances showcasing her beautiful voice, and celebrity co-signs across the industry. She finally dropped her main debut album and I have to say, after the first audition, I hooked up. From top to bottom, it's nothing but quality vocals, great songwriting, amazing production, and clever parodies that dive deep into the mind of Ari Lennox. Lennox can be defined as a modern MUSICIAN NEO-Soul, and this album perpetuates this message. It's the type of album I feel that would survive in any decade, and it's amazing I feel that way after every audition. Take the modern production, and her angelic voice harmonizes the lyrics in such a way that it gives the atmosphere of the 70s to each song. Ari Lennox can also be described as a throwback to the 70s/80s with a classic belt of harmony on the microphone, but also a modern star of RBC with the ability to adapt her vocal appeal to modern production. While its sound and appeal are very comparable to Eric Badu, Sad, Floetry, Jill Scott, and a few other RBC legends, it stands out on its own as a modern version of the classic RCB Trail. One example is how each song's title references a different type of hair texture, in an attempt to demonstrate the aesthetics of black women. It demonstrates bravery by showing the world its true self and creativity to stand out! Add to her aesthetic as stylish, sassy, black, and proud, magic comes with my first listen. Now I'm on listen to number 45 and I still feel refreshed on how nice Ari's voice is. Her voice is like chirping birds in a beautiful park on a fresh spring day. It's amazing how the current album captures the essence of the 70s album, but adds a modern twist to it. Below I will describe my opinion on each song: a photo via Vibe Magazine Chicago Boy I was instantly drawn to the instruments playing a tie with a Erykah Badu type beat. Then add to Ari's signature neo shower flash and you got yourself an amazing song! It really reminded me of Erykah Badu (Window Seat in particular) for this song. The song is her singing about a female perspective on a one-night stand. BMO more uptempo beat mixed in very nicely with Lennox's vocals. This track is about her having a crush and dealing with anxiety about it. This gave me a Floetry/Erykah Badu feel. Very well! Broke Feat. JID One of my favorites from the first audition, the song entails a couple being broke not only financially, but also learning to trust each other because past relationships don't work. Eventually, however, they become more open and sexy towards each other. This is an example of a great Songs. JID adds in a great series of lyrical wordplay that reminded me of Kendrick. Definitely Definitely Listen. Until late cool, cool, cool! Beautiful jazz is combined with Lennox belt from an ode to sensual love making makes this a beautiful song. She reminded me of the male version of Donnie Hathaway with this song. Shea Butter Baby Feat. J.Cole With this song already been on Creed 2 and featured a music video, it's not my first to listen to, but I love this song nonetheless! Tell me a sleek track about assessing your lover's time and it's very well written. Definitely a song to smoke. New Flat This honestly can be my favorite track after my first audition, while the lyrics relate to her moving into her new apartment and her doing different things to enjoy it. It can also be seen as a double entendre, as you feel, get a fresh start after difficult times. The sketch where she was about to release her girls hints at her finally being free to express past troubles that have given her anxiety. It's a brilliant song. Facetime Fun fact, this was the first song Cole and Lennox worked when he signed it to Dreamville! Also, from Cole's signature amazing production, Lennox mixed in solo songs about being genuine in a relationship so easily! Pop velvet guitar plays in the background as Lennox smoothly sings about her falling in love with a man. I was she sing an ode to her female colleagues about not agreeing to a man who wouldn't treat you to write. She easily uses her voice to sing lyrics about self-esteem for women, and I'm Stan. Whipped cream again like Shea Butter Baby, this song has already been introduced, but again, like Shea Butter Baby, it's a great song. The static white noise she sings about in static is a double entendre for the joys and pain relationships bring. It's a great way to finish an album with a powerful message, jazz instrumental, and good singing. The final take of the review 10/10 Is Amazing! Give this album how to listen as soon as possible! I feel like I'll be giving Shea Butter Baby a few listens for a while. Pros: One of a kind of appeal Parody smart production matches Voice of Ari This article about the album by Ari Lennox. The album was produced by Dreamville Elite. In addition, most of the album was produced by Dreamville's full-time producers J. Cole, Elite, Omen, Ron Gilmore and Christo. Von Ari Lennox was signed to Dreamville Records in 2015 after her music circulated throughout the label. Eventually, they took her to their studio to work on references to Rihanna, but the songs ended up in Lennox because she wasn't a songwriter for other artists and wrote personal recordings for herself. On July 16, 2018, Ari Lennox released the first single Whipped Cream for her debut album with an accompanying music video on September 5. In November 2018, Ari released four promo singles: 40 Shades of Suffocation, Grampa, No One and Pedigree. The title track was the second single Shea Butter Baby with J. Cole, released on February 26, 2019, and first appeared on the Creed II soundtrack on November 16, 2018. The song was accompanied by a music video on February 20, 2019, and in its first week topped three million views on YouTube. On April 30, Ari Lennox announced the release date and tracklist of the album, and released the single Up Late, and the music video for the song was released on May 14. A live rendition of I Been was released on August 5 at the A Colors Show. On August 6, she released a music video for the song BMO, directed by Child. On March 27, 2019, she announced her first headliner tour, the first leg of which began on May 12 and ends June 14 in her hometown of Washington, D.C., with the support of Baby Rose, Michala Jena and Ron Gilmore. The second stage of the tour in Europe begins in December. On March 27, 2020, the SHEa Butter Baby (Remix EP) EP was released with guest appearances by Doja Cat, Smino and Durand Bernarr. It includes remixes of BMO, I Been and Facetime. Ari Lennox's writing and recording spoke with Complex about the process of writing the album, saying it was just what's going on in my life right then and there. Sometimes it's just really blunt. She told XXL about the experience she had expressed on the album, saying, I sing about my first apartment, about sympathy broke, if your soul is beautiful, then who cares? I have this joint called Static (where) I talk about my anxiety in a metaphorical sense. Just a lot of sex, soul, romance and hip-hop. She started working on her debut album right after signing with Dreamville, and it took four years to complete. Ron Gilmore talked about the recording process and how the album evolved to its final form in an interview with Revolt, saying: There were different tracklists for sure. it's pretty much it. It was a long, tedious process to even get to 12 songs. There are still songs that are also good. It wasn't one of those situations where we thought the album used to be. No, we've been working pretty what we've been working on, and maybe a month before the release, we've handled what's going to happen on the album. I know the ones we did in 2015 - I was and Facetime - kept doing it through the cut lists. It will be a tracklist and it will be 20 songs. Then, he was cutting from there and cutting from there and cutting from there until we got to 12.

Floetry To Feat Rap Artist Common on SupaStar Written by Robert ID1831 Tuesday, 23 August 2005 06:50 - It's more than their beauty. It’s more than the passionate vocals of Marsha Ambrosius (the Songstress) and elegant spoken word of Natalie Stewart (the Floacist) that has fans captivated everywhere since FLOETRY first stepped on stage. The dynamic duo's incredible success is deeply rooted in their ability to appeal to all ages, races and genres of music lovers. The proof is in their long list of accolades and demand for appearances: six Grammy nods, six Soul Train awards perched on their mantle, a NAACP nomination for Outstanding New Artist, a standing ovation at BET's Walk of Fame: Tribute to Smokey Robinson, impressionable performances at the Essence Music Festival & Def Poetry Jam (HBO). FLOETRY known to make music that speaks to listeners'' mind, body, and soul are now ready to release a masterpiece to stand the test of time and raise the bar in music with their third CD Flo''Ology on Geffen Records. Plus, they''ve enlisted super producer Scott Storch and Hip-Hop's savior rap artist Common on their 1st single, "SupaStar". Fresh off the Kool Philosophy Tour with The Roots and the Sugar Water Festival Tour alongside Queen Latifah, Erykah Badu and Jill Scott, FLOETRY are quick to point out the differences between Flo''Ology and the topics covered on their 6X Grammy-nominated debut Floetic and its follow-up, Floacism (Live). This time, the duo's lyrics more specifically span the spectrum of romantic relationships.

It’s Not Me, It’s You: Considering the Worthy Sacrifice Hip Hop Artists May Need to Make to Reclaim the Heart of Hip Hop, its People by Sharieka Shontae Botex April, 2019 Director of Thesis: Dr. Wendy Sharer Major Department: English The origins of Hip Hop evidence that the art form was intended to provide more than music to listen to, but instead offer art that delivers messages on behalf of people who were not always listened to. My thesis offers an analysis of Jay-Z and J. Cole’s lyrical content and adds to an ongoing discussion of the potential Hip Hop artists have to be effective leaders for the Black community, whose lyrical content can be used to make positive change in society, and how this ability at times can be compromised by creating content that doesn’t evidence this potential or undermines it. Along with this, my work highlights how some of Jay-Z and J. Cole’s lyrical content exhibits their use of some rhetorical strategies and techniques used in social movements and their use of some African American rhetorical practices and strategies. In addition to this, I acknowledge and discuss points in scholarship that connect with my discussion of their lyrical content, or that aided me in proposing what they could consider for future lyrical content. I analyzed six Jay-Z songs and six J. Cole songs, including one song from their earliest released studio album and one from their most recently released studio album. I examined their lyrical content to document responses to the following questions: What issues and topics are discussed in the lyrics; Is money referenced? If so, how; Is there a message of uplift or unity?; What does the artist speak out against?; What lifestyles and habits are promoted?; What guidance is provided?; What problems are mentioned? and What solutions are offered? In my thesis, I explored Jay-Z and J.

The Jazz Gene: Examining the use of Jazz Aesthetics in Hip-Hop Music P. Thomas Francis A THESIS SUBMITTED TO THE FACULTY OF GRADUATE STUDIES IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE OF MASTER OF ARTS GRADUATE PROGRAM IN MUSIC YORK UNIVERSITY TORONTO, ONTARIO JUNE 2017 P. Thomas Francis, 2017 ii ABSTRACT This thesis is made up of 7 original compositions that aid in exploring the common cultural traits and practices of African-American music — referred to using the metaphor of the Jazz ‘Gene’. These conventions are historically contextualized and analyzed through two categories of rhythm and harmony from a post-Jazz perspective. The compositions in this thesis also highlight influences and artists from various African-American genres whose active compositional styles create unique frameworks in their genres — such as James Brown, Joshua Redman, Roy Hargrove, Robert Glasper, and Dr. Dre. I surmise that without these common traits and practices found through these unique frameworks, Hip-Hop music would not persevere or evolve. These aesthetics exist in Hip-Hop just as much as they exist in Funk, Soul, R&B, Gospel, and Jazz music. iii DEDICATION This paper is dedicated to my family. Mom, Dad, Shelkah, and Sherma, thank you for your continued support and I hope this paper does you all proud.
